EWS Scotland: Bangers and Media Mash

Jun 1, 2014
by Paris Gore
Covering the EWS is a logistical nightmare when it comes to accessing the stages this weekend in Scotland to create the best content possible. Select media were lucky enough to have an organized shuttle between stages to gain the biggest advantage in covering one of the hardest mountain bike races to shoot. Something along the lines of: borrowed bikes with backward brakes, 40 pound camera bags trying to throw you over the bars at all times, late nights, missed flights, missing luggage, waiting in the bush for hours getting eaten alive by the wildlife and surprisingly didn't get rained on for once. In order to get to the locations and take the shots needed, one must have the ability to ride the courses just as well as most of the riders in order to keep up and not ruin anyone's run providing sheer entertainment value to the fans.

Media Shuttle s were extremely limited and anyone fortunate to get on board were able to access 3 4 stages each day without having to pedal around without too much struggle.

If there was one stage where you could say Joe Barnes threw away his chance at second place it d have to be final stage of the race Joe conceded 15 seconds to Justin Leov ending up some 3 seconds down on Leov overall. But he s proven he can step it up.

 Awesome pics

Reminds me though seeing these photogs riding they're bikes down with big gear packs on of an event last year when shooting with a photog for the day, on the way out ripping down a good flowy jumpy DH trail he crashed into a tree, damaged himself and wrecked a $1500 lens in the process the day before another job, looks good when ya get away with it, expensive if ya don't.

No, not for this race. Each EWS round operates with the race format and rules of the country where the race is taking place.
