PRESS RELEASE: EXT Racing Shox

EXT Racing Shox is proud to announce they are now offering a new line of rear shocks to meet the demand for performance coupled with a new layout for an easy fitment. Available from February 2019, the Storia V3 and Arma V3 are built and developed for mountain bikers and racers through racing fields and rider feedback.

EXT Racing Shox works closely with OEM partners and EXT athletes to deliver a custom build that will provide optimal suspension performance. The STORIA V3 and ARMA V3 have improved all of capabilities that award-winning EXT mountain bike products are known for.

The damping technology on Arma V3 and Storia V3 is a mono-tube design that retains the key benefits of the previous models: no cavitation, more control and damping consistency.

The new V3 models feature a larger diameter reservoir in order to obtain the lowest working pressure possible; the result is an even greater sensitivity than previous models. This translates on the bike as even more traction and grip, that keeps the back wheel glued to the trail.

Shaft internal design has been enhanced in order to improve stress resistance. The Storia V3 and Arma V3 feature a new refined high flow valve for a finest setting of Low and High Speed Compression, in addition to a proprietary technology that automatically splits compression and rebound adjustments, with the result of keeping every adjustment completely separated. The rebound knob has also been redesigned for a fast and easy spring swap.

Every rider can choose a full custom tune basing on bike suspension design, rider weight, and riding style. EXT engineers have been able to shave about 25 grams from the already rather lightweight of previous models (same length, same spring rate).

Storia V3

The primary goal of the Storia V3 is the easy-fitment on most mountain bike frames; for this reason the shock has seen a complete redesign, and can be purchased in metric or imperial sizing, featuring standard or trunnion mounts. The Storia V3 adopts the same hydraulic and internals of Arma.

photo

As the previous Storia model, V3 offers the revolutionary LOK Technology that allows a complete compression separate lock-out system, now totally renewed with a new design, a more progressive opening, and a totally silent working.

In order to allow every rider to use a softer spring rate and increase bike traction and handling, EXT engineers have imported from Arma the hydralic bottom out system named HBC (Hydraulic Bottom-out Control), capable to develop more than 50% of hydraulic force only on the last part of the stroke, allowing riders to avoid any kind of bottom-out issues. This technology allows the use of thinner bottom-out bumpers, increasing the amount of useful travel.

photo

Storia V3 is designed to serve those customers who want maximum performance of a pedal-platform equipped shock, with a great support on the last milimeters of bike rear travel, with the great performance of a coil shock.

Arma V3

Like his younger enduro brother, the ARMA V3 downhill shock has seen lot of refinements from his previous model. Engineered with downhill focus in mind, shock structure has seen a redesign in order to be more frame friendly, with metric and imperial sizing, and both classic eye to eye and trunnion mounts.

photo

HBC has been enhanced with a wider range of adjustment, in order to prevent bottom-out issues, while allowing riders to use softer spring rates and still have good support.
Like in the Storia V3, this technology allows the use of thinner bottom-out bumpers, increasing the amount of useful travel.

photo

Arma V3 is designed to serve those riders who want a coil feel with very high bump sensitivity, and still are in need of a strong bottom-out support.

Might get one of these to go on my Santa Cruz V10 with Reserve wheels
  • 9 2
Looks like a tight fit in there; likely the first time you’ll hear that in your life :-p

That’s also only about $900 USD plus maybe some shipping cost. Considering it comes with two lw springs it seems right in line with a new DHX2 complete setup and less than Push for sure. I had considered going that route rather than grafting a Push to a non-supported frame, but was unsure. Feeling some regret now.

 Don't forget the Trickstuff maximas

Jokes asides, this reminds me of when Marzocchi entered the mtb market and changed the game.

This year was my second season with the EXT Storia. Absolutely mindblowing. But if you get one
of their shocks you will have a serious problem : to find a fork that matches the performance of the shock.
  • 8 1
Thank you very much santa-banshee, that's really nice to hear about this.
  • 2 0
@RideEXT: Will there be a DH fork in the near future to match the shock?
  • 2 0
@fantaman: just look at the last picture up there...
  • 2 0
@Werratte: That's the Formula fork Wink
  • 2 0
 @Voxran: yes, i know :-)

Already have that problem with my dhx2...

@santa-banshee if single crown just put acs3 coil in there (rockshox/Fox)... coil wins

Best shock I have ever run. I supply them with my Starling Cycles frames and all of my customers say the same. Amazing shock!

Thank you very much phutphutend, we're really happy about this !

@RideEXT: I have now fitted a shock to my 2019 Trek Slash . And it has made a world of difference , ove the Fox x2 shock .
Be very proud of what you have created .
We are now going to order them up for our downhill bikes

@wrf2002: Thank you very much, your words are our goal .

Has anyone ridden it and the Push shock on the same bike?
  • 2 0
The issue with Push is they refuse to do anything custom; if your bike isn’t on the list then fugetaboutit. Even if it is on the list they won’t vary or modify anything beyond their standard offering; 110% WYSIWYG, no hesitation to tell you to take it or leave it.
  • 1 0
@TheUnknownMTBR: Yup, I already have one and might want to put it on a Mondraker Foxy. I expect no luck with Push but it's great on my E29!
  • 1 0
@Artnshel: try it.. it might just work man, fiddle with the settings
  • 2 0
I have not but I think it’s great news regardless. $1200 pretax is a big pill to swallow for a Push so hopefully a $900 quality competitor like EXT will create more competition and either drive prices down or Push releases something at this price point. Either way, we all win.

"Every EXT shock is tested on Dyno Bench before being shipped."

Great ! Now send us a copy of the dyno sheet with the shock as well.

Is anyone in the US authorized to rebuild them ? Can I buy the parts and rebuild at home ? Do they have to be sent back to Italy every Winter ?
  • 2 0
You can send it to Brennan Auto Sport . I have the tools to rebuild mine and it's a painless easy rebuild.

@preston67 really nice suggestion, we will take care of it, Thanks.

They need to fix their website. Scroll down of various products and their menu banner covers most of the usage area of the page.
  • 1 0
I was thinking to myself, i've never heard of these shocks. Go to the website and oooh yeah....i've tried to look at them before but their huge azz banner covers everything up.

I've got an Arma on my Demo. Great shock so smooth, just floats down the track
  • 2 0
I've been running the V2 Storia on my SB6 for about a year. The small bump compliance is incredible. Been very happy with the shock. Will be getting a V3 for my next bike.
  • 1 0
@IsBjorn Thank you very much, glad to deliver such good vibes.
  • 3 0
Marzocvhi moto c2r is way underrated, too and shimmed to your bike, works better than dhx 2.But no lock out.
  • 3 0
@RideEXT Does the Storia fit a Propain Spindrift?
(Dear God, please, please let'em say NO!)
  • 3 0
Ben Reid have the Storia on his Propain Sprindrift Smile www.pinkbike.com/video/494604

(Sorry poor bank account, you'll loose some weight... mine too)
  • 3 0
@Voxran: ...oh shit! You're right, but deep inside my mind, i carry that litle spark of hope, that Ben has something that is not available for everyone.
  • 2 0
@Werratte we're working on a dedicated file to check frame clearances
  • 4 1
Might have to sell my first born to afford one of these bad boys.
  • 2 0
@RideEXT: Is it possible to mount the shock on a Transistion Sentinel with its linear compression curve?
  • 6 0
Hi MAX..yes of course, it only need to have a more progressive tuning. Anyhow integrated HBC will help to have a more progressive end of stroke.
  • 1 0
 @RideEXT:

Will it work on the LAST Coal V2? Shock length 210*55mm, 160mm rear travel

I've got a Pole Evolink 158 frame with the EXT coil on order, so stoked!
  • 1 0
Please try to fit one to a 2018 Scott genius. Your “frame friendly” claim has me crossing my fingers although I don’t think a coil will ever fit.
  • 3 0
@galbraithrider we're working on a file to check frame clearances, Scott Genius is waiting in line Wink
  • 1 0
I just bought a Cane Creek DB Coil CS 205/65 Trunnion ????. I will have to wait for the money tree to grow back. Can't spend the money when I'm dead ????????
  • 1 2
Great looking shock, my biggest concern is it will follow suit with every other Italian company and have zero after-care support, bugger all chance of ever getting warranty honoured and horrendous reliability issues... honestly no matter how bad I wanna try one of these I could never bring myself to buy anything Italian, been stung too many times by that hype train
  • 3 0
They are very un-Italian in that regard. Answer emails within 24 hours also shipped my shock before they said it was going to be ready. I had an issue with mine and it was warrantied no questions asked by an Australian service agent even though I bought it direct from EXT. I am extremely happy with EXT as a company and the product also.
  • 2 0
 @michaelten: well that's refreshing!
  • 2 0
Thank you for feedback, really important for us to grow up also in after-care.
We try to make our best, and so does our official Australian distributor Twenty 3 Cycles Wink
  • 1 0
Is it possible or likely they'll be offering a short travel shock for an Evil Following MB?
  • 1 0
@RideEXT Absolutely love my Arma v1! Is it possible to upgrade the v1 shock to hbs and the new reservoir?
  • 1 0
@RideEXT This is a great question!!!!! Please let us know....
  • 1 0
@phil77 @Soilsledding Unfortunately difference in internals space and external design does not allow us to make the upgrading modifications to V3 version.
  • 2 0
Enduro shock havier than HD one? Must be mistake.
  • 10 0
Hi sayrius, DH shock doesn't need lockout technology, so resulting lighter than Enduro one Wink
  • 2 2
@RideEXT: How about something to compete aginst the DB Inline? Wink Big reservoires may be needed by pros, but for regular dudes, the weight savings might actually be more significant.
  • 4 0
@Br4inm4n: if one cares enough about suspension performance to pay the premium for a high-end, custom tuned coil shock like, why the hell would said individual want to compromise performance in a fit of weight weeniness? If you are a weight weenie, get the inline you mentioned or any one of a wide selection of competent to excellent air shocks on the market.
  • 1 0
pretty sure this shock is amazing but my wallet isnt amazing enough for me to get one /sigh
  • 2 0
Wow. This is engineering at its best. Great finishing
  • 1 3
When the shock works it's pretty good. EXT still has alot of design issues that haven't been worked out, I'd say from personal experience. So I'm not sure if I would personally recommend this shock to others yet, until they are sure the product is ready. Maybe they fixed it in this version?
  • 2 0
I'm interested in what issues you have seen with the EXT dampers I haven't experienced anything with mine after a whole race season. Pm me if you have some info.
  • 6 0
@Pmrmusic26 Thank you for the feedback, please contact us regarding your issues with our products.
Every kind of feedback is good for product development.
  • 2 0
Great, one week after my Storia shock arrived in the mail :/

They look very Push-esque. Looks legit.
