Feature Film: The Journey - A BC Bike Race Film

by BC Bike Race

BC Bike Race is proud to release their third feature film, THE JOURNEY. Follow the international field of racers from the moment they affix their race plates to their bars to the tears of joy and exhaustion as they cross the final finish line seven days later. Travel along the route with the racers as they cross the Salish Sea to Vancouver Island before visiting the Sunshine Coast and finally returning to the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

THE JOURNEY explores the transition that can happen between that anxiety fueled first night at basecamp before the race begins through to the trials and tribulations that come with stage racing. Along the way, individual stories of the event are told through interviews with experienced - and some less experienced - participants.

Director Max Berkowitz and his film team dig deep to capture both the suffering and pure joy that exists in riding 300 kilometres of handcrafted singletrack in the picturesque landscape that British Columbia has to offer. Through humour - an emerging rivalry between our champion Geoff Kabush and a team of South African racers - viewers can experience just a taste of the basecamp culture that ebbs and flows each year as unique characters bring a new flavour to the event.

THE JOURNEY is the third BC Bike Race feature movie to be released following SEVEN and TEN. Each tells the story of this intricately executed and evolving event from different aspects. Whether you've already raced the event or hope to do it one day, these films will let you dream of rugged West Coast riding and the warm communities who have created it.

This year's race brings racers from 40 countries - a record for BC Bike Race, and perhaps one of the biggest international fields ever assembled in mountain biking racing. With less than a month until the race begins, the BC Bike Race crew can hardly wait to welcome another 600 racers to their backyard.

That intro speech - I'm sure I wasn't the only guy that may have rolled their eyes when it was said that we would be like one big family. But damn, they were spot on. By far the coolest thing I've ever done, with some of the raddest people I've ever met.

There should be more random rider reports on race days - following a handful of random racers - that one lady Brett recapped with is so cool to hear how she did as a novice trying out a tough race event. So cool to see folks enjoying themselves - sometimes I could care less about the pros and who wins...

Awesome! So, it looks like a lot of people are on pretty traditional 100mm XC bikes? Are the trails for this race relatively mellow?

yeah there were only few technical sections where one wished for more suspension. most of the riders were on lightweight XC racing machines. I had a lot of fun with my 130mm and plus tires as well tough ;-)

Such a great edit! Got me all choked up. Feeling pretty blessed to be so close to all those places and ride Cumberland every week. I'd love to run that race one year.

@thatshowiroll: I can tell you.... because that was me! I made it all the way to the end and completed every stage but two. I had to pull out half way through day 3 because of a pulled muscle and then sadly half way through day 6 in Squamish I just ran out of steam. My legs were just done, which sucked because the riding there is so amazing! Then magically by whistler I felt great again.
I crossed the finish line and got a medal but definitely need to go back for a re-do to complete 100% and get the real thing ????.
Impulsive decision to go race but hands down the right decision.
