What are we looking at .....50/50 here for P9 to be 1 stage or 2. Well it's going to be one. Now before all the 50% start to complain that were voting for 2 stages - what happen to enduro being 20% pedal 80% down. I don't think there has been a race yet in the BC or KR Enduro Series that has abided to that 'loose' description of Enduro, and agree its way more fun and enjoyable with less climbing in stages - I am all for it. But this trail/stage, it really makes sense to just run it as one. Its a 30m climb, its about 1min 30'ish in time frame for the average. Just means you can have an extra beer at the finish line for the extra effort. See you on the weekend!

Exactly, there needs to be SOME test of fitness, both in a longer stage and bit of climbing.
  • 2 0
You had me at extra beer.

Just rode the day 2 course. My question about P9 is what option are we using? There's a huge cottonwood down across the trail where there is a 3-4 option intersection. If there was a 30m climb on the trail I didnt notice it... Just fit in with everything else. Every other race location has trails with small climbs. I can't fathom why people are concerned here.

For anyone who's interested the Day 2 loop is about 26km and 1200m.. so after addiing the 30m from P9 I'm sure pooped. * sarcasm

nice one Triptex! At the tree we take the only other option which is right then, its splits a few more times - just the main route or what ever we feel like flagging when we are there as can't remember off the top of my head! But what ever looks the most obvious, straight forward and keeps with the flow!

Personally I would prefer to race P9 in two stages; better value for the slog up. Even though each track is pretty long, racing P9 as one stage would mean that there are only 4 stages in total, which is on the short side for an enduro race. In the event of a mechanical or a crash on either of half of the trail, racers could still go for glory on the other half. Moreover, if the trail were one long stage then it would be won or lost on that climb, which takes away from the technical aspect of Project 9 - FBC might as well rename the beer "Stove" since if we really had legs then we'd all be racing XC!

P9 should be one stage as we are racing Enduro and there is hardly any track left after the climb for another stage. 36m of climbing is not much guys!
  • 7 2
P9 in one stage is fine with me, its not a bad climb at all near the bottom, plus it an enduro, not a DH. Brokeback has a little flat slightly uphill section as well
  • 9 4
Project 9 should be one stage! A little climb in the mid section never hurt anyone.
  • 5 3
2 stages for P9! I like a good climb but there is already a couple good pedal sections on the other 2 stages that day. The P9 climb is a bit long for a race of this stlye. A climb section should not be the defining section of trail for placing well on a stage.
  • 6 1
Its a short climb. Steep but short. Local record is 13min FYI
  • 2 1
I think he means the climb in the middle of the trail, not to the top. It is a bit long for an enduro race IMO as well. 2 stages would be my vote.
  • 4 0
I got it. Hardly a climb! Put the hammer down! Fitness is important in enduro.
  • 1 0
13 minutes in September in the evening (as in cooler than the heat wave we're dealing with now) on an xc bike by a mutant if I'm not mistaken?
  • 1 0
And my mistake I was reading this as a 13 minute climb up. Disregard, I will return to the peanut gallery in shame now.
  • 8 3
Project 9. One stage. No reason to cut the flow of a trail in half even if there is a minor lump in the trail
  • 4 0
lol best quote from the old trans rockies fernie enduro "There will be no Fernie Enduro this year, the FTA has invited another enduro to come to town"
  • 5 0
Whoa, 48hrs! did not expect that
  • 1 0
just watched a vid of P9 , total time was 6:44 , of fun , not sure what all the squacking about is and suggesting it be split into 2 stages , i did a local race this past sunday , 1st stage was double that time wise with similar amount of climbing , 2nd stage was around 20min of non stop movement with 90m of climbing for the fast guys .
  • 3 0
will 48 hrs use the anal man flow or the ride around? Don't know P9 so can't comment on the climb in the middle.
  • 1 0
There are now three options for the 'Anal Man Flow" steeps, there is a fairly steep ride around just built this season, then there is a longer one as well but as of Thursday afternoon there is a huge tree down on it, the main line steeps are super loose and fast, you will not scrub any speed here at all unless you smoke a tree or lay it down. I'm not sure what megan has planned but pre-riding this section is recommended.
  • 1 1
yes I have ridden the trail half a dozen times on a dh bike, just not on the trail bike, so was curious where it would be taped for the race, probably a great spectator location if they go with the straight line steeps.
  • 4 1
I suffer mightily on the long stages, so my selfish vote is for two. Then again, I've never seen the trail.
  • 6 3
P9, one longer stage pleaseSmile Worked out great as one stage in the Enduro 2 years ago.
  • 1 0
This will be my first enduro race, Is bringing the full face overkill? Don't know how rowdy the trails will be, have only ridden swinflue/ madcow and resort.
  • 2 0
Day two you should be fine without it, but you could consider it for 48 hours. It's pretty steep up top and the climb isn't obscene. I pre-rode them all with an open face, but considering the full face for day one.
  • 1 0
I'm wearing a full face and I live here, all stages have spots where a fall can result in good damage, plus race day speeds and loose dry trails is another factor.
  • 3 0
I rode 48hrs on Saturday. The top section is stupid steep and very loose (no stopping once you drop in). I would rock the full face for that. Some big jumps but the ride arounds are pretty quick. Open face for Sunday.
  • 1 0
I go with two helmets....better safe! Plus I feel like I'm going faster Smile
  • 3 1
One long P9 for sure! Pedal that bike!
  • 1 3
I'd rather see two stages on P9. There's already going to be enough pedalling to let the fit guys have their time to shine. Uphill bits may be fun and flowy on an after-work ride, but suck for everyone, no matter how fit, to sprint when you're racing.

That said it's the only trail of the bunch I've ridden, and I won't get a chance to pre-ride anything, so I'm looking at it from a lazy beer-drinking/racing-for-fun perspective moreso than trying to work to my strengths in my bid for a medal. It's hardly make-or-break for me
  • 2 0
Racing it blind..gonna be a fun one Smile
  • 4 0
@gunners1 thats the best way to do it and how all riders should do it! Its what is should be about. Reading trail on the fly and not sessioning and remembering stuff!
  • 1 0
Wow, this should be fun and technical
  • 1 0
Rad! Such fun trails...looking forward to it. Fernie rocks.
