FULL RESULTSIt was dusty, it was dry and it was hot - that was Fernie in the week lead up to Round 3 of the
Osprey Kootenay Rockies Enduro Series. The weather gods were with us with a short but heavy downpour on Friday night. We were left with tacky hero dirt and overcast sky's for a perfect weekend of riding bikes.
The Fernie Course had a One Stage Prologue on the Saturday afternoon to get the Sunday's race kicked off and skills in place for the main day of racing. A trailed named 48hrs on Morrissey Ridge was chosen for this Prologue. Many comments from riders were that they hadn't ridden the Morrissey area before and that they would back for more after they got a little taste.
Riders had to try and make their way past the rowdy crowd on Kootenay C'anal' (a steep chute section about 1/3 of the way down the trail). The trail took many victims with some choosing to give the crowd something to cheer about while others made it through with relief and grins on their faces.
Nick Quinn took a very nice convincing win on what is mostly his 'home' trails.
Day 2 (the main race day), was 3 stages that were of a significant length and all having their own unique flavor. Riders were sent off in all directions off the start. Some started on Project 9, others on Verboten, and the final crew to Slunt/Brokeback while they all flowed through each stage before returning to the finish.
Some didn't quite make it out of the trails unscathed but still had smiles on their faces.
Riders got their well deserved fully loaded wrap with choice of fresh cold brew coffee from
Steam Donkey or a cold refreshing well deserved Fernie Brewery Beer or 2....or 3 or 4...(some claimed to have holes in their cups and needed more than a few refills)
But there was more then enough beer left that we had to start some drinking competitions of who got to pick the first prizes and of course the
SMITH OPTICS sunglasses were first to go from the table yet again. Volunteers were then allowed to take their picking from products from
Osprey Packs,
Fouriers Bikes,
Steam Donkey Coffee, Action Sports Clinic rollers, and more.

The
Kazoom Leader Jersey got handed over to David Harder for the first time this year. He was the overall winner from 2014 but hadn't manage to quite make his way back to the top after a flat in round 1. Tara Walmsley holds on to the women's leader jersey yet again.
The
Fernie Trail Alliance were fantastic support in the lead up to the event and we are excited to be able to donate back and support the local trails here in Fernie from the event.
Round # 4 for the KR Enduro Series is in a few weeks on July 26th - Kananaskis Enduro supported by
Action Sports Clinic. This race is at Moose Mountain and capped at 150 so you had better get yourself signed up if you plan on doing it! Info/Reg
HERERound # 5 for both the KR and the BC Enduro Series is Rossland on Aug 2. The Rossland trails are always a must and if you are in need of a spot in Retallack and you are sitting high on the points table then you won't want to miss a race in the hopes that you get allocated a spot due to you having a shot at the podium for the series! Yes that's right. If you are in contention for top 3 in your category for overall series points after Rossland you are guaranteed a spot into the final race in Retallack if you don't have a spot already! Nothing like a bit of incentive! Info/Reg
