Video: From the Supermarket to Madeira Island

Nov 9, 2014
by Filipe Perestrelo
Filipe Perestrelo won Giant's video contest 2 years ago after submitting his clip ripping up his local trails on his well ridden bike (Video at the bottom), but these days he's throwing down on a Giant Glory and this is his holiday trip to Madeira Island. You've come a long ways buddy.

That awkward moment when he rides his supermarket bike better that I ride my $5000 bike

Not as awkward as him riding his supermarket bike better than his $5000 bike.

I think that is the "I-can't-risk-too-much-because-I-don't-have-money-to-repair-the-things-I-break" syndrome, I also suffer from it.

Hate to say it, but anyone who says they can out ride the capabilities of their current 4,000 dollar bike is full of shit after watching this!! This guy is rad, and proves that you DON'T need a high priced rig to have fun and enjoy what bikes were really meant for, and that is having fun!!! He now puts his new glory through plenty of needed use, and deserves it after growing up with what he could obtain at the time. cheers to you dude!!

Agree and disagree. I would't be able to ride the shitbox bike better than I can ride my expensive bike. My expensive sled makes up for my lack of skill. Comparing yourself to how others can ride is moot. That said, yes there is certainly a LOT of diminishing returns the more you spend, and a video like this is humbling, when you get thingy about that extra few grams of weight you can lose off the already expensive bike you have.

Having said that his none 4,000 dollar bike was a death machine, it snapped on him, those wheels weren't long for the world, there is a point that you're spending money to make tiny improvements, but before that you're paying to make your bike safe to ride the trails you do. Chuffed for the kid, keep shredding!!!

not implying that it isn't a good diea to invest in a well made bike, but for what that bike was, it did a good job getting him to a good riding ability for what he had to live with in terms of a bicycle. And more so, i was also stating that people saying their 4-6,000 dollar bike isnt cutting it is just ridiculous.

This video makes me smile. We all saw Filipe with that clapped out bike and hundreds of PBers not only got behind him, but demanded Giant give him a complete bike and not just the frame. And they did. And now Filipe is shredding on it. Pats on backs all around!

"Our favourite Supermarket bike rider is killing it on his Giant Glory these days and this is his trip to Madeira Island."
By the way he is FROM Madeira Island Smile

That was rad. If there is any justice in this world, someone will sponsor this guy and he can take his skill all the way. In the meantime, hope he continues making flicks like this to show us how to pour our heart and souls in our bike and runs. So inspiring...

Shit!!! So you mean I can learn how to ride on a cheap bike first, and then spend vast amounts of money on race bikes! No wonder I don't look as cool as this guy riding his supermarket bike. This guy can shred, good for you man!

Nice to see that he is getting frequent flyer miles on that bike. Keep on shredding Filip!

"Frequent flyer" is a funny line Smile
