Thibaut Daprela leaving his competitors in a trail of dust.

The results are in from the French National Championships with the Junior rider Thibaut Daprela setting the fastest time of the day on the Alpe D'Huez course. Amaury Pierron, Loic Bruni and Loris Vergier sat this weekend out leaving the field wide open for the rest of the fast French downhillers that are also consistently at the top of the sport. For the Elite Men, the top five riders came within one and a half seconds of each other and only 0.63 split the top three. Although Thirion would set the fastest Elite Men's time it was Thibaut Daprela who crossed the line with the fastest time of the day, nearly a second quicker than Thirion.

In the Elite Women's race Marine Cabirou backed up her great result from Les Gets last weekend to second the national title, she had a commanding lead of the field taking over ten seconds off Mélanie Chappaz’s race run.

 it seems to be an all out french invasion in DH. it is nuts right now!

 Classy move by the French trio to sit this out for others to battle.

 What is the title worth, when you know you probably won it because major contenders stayed home?
And you didn't even get a chance to beat them.....

 @IntoTheEverflow: I’d rather race against the best and get 3rd than get 1st on the b team.
  • 4 0
 Also, the top 3 arent always in form

 I personally would think that it would show pride in their country and encourage participation for them to show up, but what do I know?

 Disagree... if i were, for example Aaron Gwin, I'd be proud to represent my country and would go win the national championships. Not to be a dick, but because that's what being a racer and representing a country is all about.

 @IntoTheEverflow: same thing happens every year in French national champ. Vigé won last year and i don't remember those before but it's like that. It doesn't need a debate about who worth what to me.

 You can only win against the people who take part. The history books will show the winners name and not those people who didn't race. Just my 2 cents

 @Clem-mk: well put. They are who they are and do not belong to us.

 @Clem-mk: as i remember he won last year cause he went down in the Dry, Bruni, Pierron and Vergier went down in the Soaking wet on a technical and steep Track.

 @Braench: hmmm yes! i'm not a good nerd yet Wink Anyway well done Rémi!

 @IntoTheEverflow: that strava KOM though...

 @sevensixtwo: but Klaus, you're B Squad leader.

 @IntoTheEverflow: I believe the mentality is more about helping riders not on larger teams getting opportunities to appease sponsors. It's still a business at the end of the day...A positive result can be the difference between a rider not on a factory team being supported throughout the season and staying home and watching on television.

 Pretty much across everthing with sticks (DMC side), crossing parts of the Mega quali track, red track 5, ... and just across fields with some nasty rocks. During the Megavalanche you could already find it.

 Does that mean Remi does not get a sleeve, only Thibaut? Either way, very impressive performance for the junior.
  • 7 0
 They both get the sleeve. Thibaut raced in junior so is only eligible for a junior jersey. Remi won the senior race so gets the senior jersey.
  • 1 0
 They both get national kit for their respective classes.
  • 3 0
 @humoroususername: Incorrect. Thibault will be the only rider to wear the sleeve in International competition as the fastest time in the combined results.
But both are National Champions in their respective classes.
  • 1 0
 @GFGF: hmmm strange! We'll see at Val di Sol
  • 1 0
 @GFGF: Does that mean Marine Cabirou doesn't get a sleeve even though she won her class?
  • 2 0
 @GFGF: that doesn't make sense to me. I've never heard of junior and senior results being gripped together like that. Does this mean that is it rains between juniors and seniors that the junior will automatically get the sleeve?

I think you will need to show me the precedence for this or else I'll have to assume you are incorrect.
  • 1 0
 @nicoSB: cool, I stand corrected. I still don't understand how that works if there is rain in between the categories which often happens.
  • 1 0
 @humoroususername: we had this happen in Germany. Rain mixed up the Elite field and they gave the Jersey to the Junior. Max Hartenstern.
