16:28 PDT The top Elite women are now hitting the first stage with Australian XC racer Zoe Cuthbert currently leading followed by George Swift and Amy Morrison.

16:36 PDT Barbora Prudkova is the first of the top-ranked riders to break into the top three as she goes just over four seconds back on the current top time set by Zoe Cuthbert.

16:36 PDT Kate Weatherly is the next rider to get into the top three but she still falls nearly three seconds off the pace.

Live Stage Updates

Elite Women:

21:00 PDT As we reach the final stage the current stage leader after the first group of Elite Women is Chloe Taylor. Following Chloe is Gloria Scarsi 4.28 seconds back with Lisa Baumann four and a half seconds off the pace in third.

21:44 PDT The final Elite Women are just about to drop in with the order now matching the current overall standings for the race. The times are tight between Hattie Harnden and Bex Baraona with these two riders being last down the hill.

22:18 PDT As the final group of Elite Women start on stage six it is Kate Weatherly who takes the lead finding almost five seconds on Chloe Taylor.

22:19 PDT Raphaela Richter almost closes the gap as she takes 2nd place, 0.21 off the pace.

22:21 PDT Morgane Charre goes fastest so far by a sizeable 3.6 seconds.

22:23 PDT Only a small gap splits Morgane from Isabeau Courdurier as last week's winner settles for 2nd place.

22:23 PDT It's now Ella Conolly who leads finding a huge 8.93 seconds.

22:24 PDT Hattie Harnden can't quite close the gap to first but still manages to take 2nd with one rider remaining.

22:25 PDT Bex Baraona crosses the line in first but just over a second to take the stage six win and the overall win in Derby this week.

Elite Men:

22:31 PDT Finally it is the Elite Men's turn to take on the final stage of the week. As the top-ranked riders start their runs the current leader is José Borges who is 7.48 seconds ahead of Mathew Stuttard.

22:32 PDT Adrien Dailly can't match the top time but he does close the gap slightly crossing the line 6.58 back.

22:37 PDT Riders are slowly getting closer and closer to José Borgers, Alex Rudeau is the latest rider to take 2nd place as he falls 5.92 seconds short of the top spot.

22:38 PDT Luke Meier-Smith takes the lead on the last stage by one and a half seconds.

22:40 PDT Ryan Gilchrist is continuing his strong form from Maydena moving into third place, two seconds off Luke's current fastest time.

22:41 PDT Matthew Walker is trying to end the day with a big result as he goes three seconds into the lead. Teammate Ed Masters isn't going slow either as he takes second place.

22:47 PDT It's now Jack Moir who takes the lead as he bests Walker's time by 2.75 seconds.

22:48 PDT Martin Maes ends the final stage three seconds back and in third so far.

22:50 PDT Not a great end to the day for Jesse Melamed as he comes down in 12th, will this change his overall standing for the race?

22:51 PDT Jack Moir's time is holding with one rider left as Slawomir Lukasik goes into 2nd place.

22:52 PDT Richie Rude ends the day with a stage win and will take the overall by seven seconds.

All them props to Leanna Curtis who's been itching to bust out and prove herself. This girl has been recovering from consecutive injuries for the past 2 years and deserves her 7th place. She's a modest and less than well off racer trying to live her dream and works so hard every day to get it done. A big shout out to Rowney Sports, our local Yeti supplier for believing in her and giving her as much as he could. True story... She had ALL her bikes stolen from a secure garage a week and half before this event. The legends scrambled to get a fresh one shipped from the U.S. and built. She basically rode it for the first time in Tasmania. Sick turn out considering.

Here is an interesting look at the first two stages via the vertical drop per km on each stage. Maydena was WAY steeper. If I were forced to bet, I would have picked the downhillers, flat pedals, to shine there, and the enduro stars to be back at the top in Derby where maybe a bit more pedaling and endurance was needed.

Derby
Stage 1: -78.3m/km
Stage 2: -79.2 m/km
Stage 3: -153.8 m/km
Stage 4: -86.5 m/km
Stage 5: -112.5 m/km
Stage 6: -97.1 m/km

Maydena
Stage 1: -180 m/km
Stage 2: -138.9 m/km
Stage 3: -133.3 m/km
Stage 4: -193.3 m/km
Stage 5: -178.8 m/km
Stage 6: -164.0 m/km
  • 1 0
This is really interesting. I track this all the time on the trails I ride. I do it in % so Maydena stage 4 was 19.3% grade.
For me 20% is going to be steep and excellent. 25% will be unreal. So your numbers show just how “flat” and how much pedaling is involved in enduro. Cool.

@plustiresaintdead: They did not moderate according to their own guidelines. There was no hate speech, no misgendering, deadnaming or any harassment involved in any comment that I remember. It was a simple case of deleting every comment regarding that sensitive topic. Or how is finding something unfair a form of harassment?
  • 30 5
@plustiresaintdead: Yes. If you were the family of a female athlete competing against men, you would be censored for making an observation that is genetically and structurally unfair, despite all the effort of your supported female to train, compete and be ready to compete on an even playing field.

World Athletics were correct in their recent decision. The UCI has not read the writing on the wall and is still behind modern, evidenced thinking and sports biology and concept of fairness.

Controversial? You made it so with that underwriter. Just remove harm speech, but for freedom of the press and in in the goodwill of comments lets discuss it. Or you are just agents of the Censorship Industrial State.

She's unreal. Winning every stage in an enduro is no easy feat. Specially if the conditions are as wet at they looked like in the practice footage - it's so easy to have one little slip up that costs you a stage when you're pushing that hard. And the other riders in her category are also top notch, so it's not like she's winning because its a weak field.

@Muscovir: but you were cool when all the Aussies won last week? Or when the French took top 3 in women and 5 out of the top 10 and 10/20 for men in loudenvielle last year?
I'm not saying it's right but isn't being local to a spot essentially the same thing plus even more advantage?
Ews will have to step in and ban teams from visiting places that host or just accept that teams will plan off season to some extent with that in mind.

@wilsonians: It's a big difference wheter you just happen to be a local to the venue by coincidence (- because you live there) or if you're a big-budget team who purposefully flies their athletes into the venue beforehand - with the intent to gain an unfair competitive advantage.
  • 5 2
@Muscovir: sure, I get it. But France a big country, so is Australia. I guarantee they all travelled to get time on those trails too whether it was for a prior race or not. (Maydena held dh Aussie champs last year...)

I agree, yeti is more egregious. And I don't really love the thought of it. But is what it is unless ews bans things like that....kinda hard to do that though.

Yes her name is George, from NZ. Oh and it's not short for anything!
  • 5 0
Yep her name is George Swift, She's privateering the whole edr season. Can't wait to see how she goes!

@ryanandrewrogers Zoe is an accomplished XC rider, but mixes things up with Enduro, Pump track etc... She's a regular top 10 in U23 XCO World Cup. And sits around 50th (ish) in overall Elite XCO World rankings.

@Foff: And he said, "Girl, this world is rough
And if a girl's gonna make it, she's gotta be tough
I knew I wouldn't be there to help you along
So I give you that name, and I said goodbye
And I knew you'd have to get tough or die
It's that name that helped to make you strong"- Johny Cash

Is Xanthe an normal first name? Or were her parents just big fans of Piers Anthony's Xanth novels? It sure seems like she magicked her way to top!
  • 9 0
Xanthe is a super fast Nelson (NZ) girl. There's a whole squad of very fast young New Zealanders coming through now. It's awesome to see!
  • 4 0
@DBlissett: Yeah she's putting up some fast times. I think women's MTB has really starting to explode in terms of talent.
  • 6 3
Is it normal to use "an" before a noun starting with a consonant?

Also, Xanthe/Xante is not uncommon in some languages. The name is of Greek origin.
  • 4 3
@mi-bike: Yes, it's common to make mistakes. My bad. I shall be perfect from now on. Unless I'm not. Also, I haven't heard all the names in all the languages of the world - that's why I asked . I just thought in my mind it's a pretty awesome name because the only association I have with it is from an imaginary magical world called Xanth. And yes, I do realize they don't have the exact same spelling.

It's going to be a nailbiter between Rude and Lukasik.

If you’re watching live from the UCI, looks like Yeti has the men’s field figured out.
  • 4 1
Top ten men's results makes a lot of sense
  • 5 2
Why is Team Yeti doing so well here? Can‘t be a coincidence…
  • 15 1
They rode these trails for two months before the race.
  • 2 1
@pisgahgnar: I also find it interesting that Stage 3 was the worst stage for Richie, Slawomir and Bex.

That's because it wasn't a coincidence. The Yeti team was in Derby weeks in advance to train for the race - gaining an unfair advantage over their competition. Technically, that's breaking the rules of EDR. Effectively and in all but in name, the Yeti team cheated.

@als802: Funny how that works out, isn't it.
  • 23 2
@Muscovir: while they may have had an advantage I don’t think it breaks any rules. The stages were not announced, they rode publicly accessible trails. It’s like telling everyone in sea to sky they cheat when EDR goes to Whistler. At every race you’ll have locals who know the tracks, maybe even built them because they have to be the forefront of the scene in their community. This is extremely hard to police. The yeti team also flew halfway across the world for training in the southern hemisphere, countless riders from all disciplines do it, and they signed up for a local enduro to get practice in. It’s not cheating, just smart.

@pisgahgnar: I agree. From what I can gather teams are paying a lot to compete and this new EDR/DH system is supposed to make mountain biking a more professional sport. So Yeti are acting very professional IMO. Might seem unfair (to the smaller teams and privateers) and against the original ethos of Enduro but Yeti were smart with their preseason.

@Muscovir: Surely anyone could come ride the trails beforehand, if he/she wanted?
  • 5 1
 Yeti's team is on
  • 8 9
What are they on this time?
  • 5 1
 Nice one Bex!
  • 2 0
Big boys back in the top 10 for stage 1.
  • 8 2
Seriously. The locals must have ridden the piss out of the Maydena course and had a leg up a result with this kind of drop off in Derby.
  • 15 0
@Murphius: I think it's more the elite conditioning coming into play with all the pedalling, as they're local to both Maydena and Derby. Also Ritchie and Bex stayed a few extra days in Derby after the Trans Tas in late Feb to ride so they're pretty practiced at the Derby trails by this point. Good to see Bex smashing it.
  • 2 0
@SoddenDeath: plus Maydena is a DH venue. Derby is an XC venue with 2 of the stages requiring a tonne of leg power. Pedal pedal pedal!! The fitter enduro riders coming to the fore.
  • 4 1
@professed: wouldn't call derby an xc venue, it has a good mix of everything! Maydena is definitely next level though (in terms of enduro/dh riding)
  • 3 4
@SoddenDeath: if one can ride all the stages on an xc/trail bike its XC to me! Maydena - no chance!
  • 5 1
@SoddenDeath: Yeah, this has all transfers ridden too. Maydena was uplifted. Going to make a difference.

Some excellent young talent coming up the ranks on both the men's and women's side.

Oh yeah the elites have claimed the racing top places again.

Yes , two Fifth places for elite men category and awesome Day hahaha

 Isabeau Courdurier will win it!
  • 1 2
Are there still some stages with more points up for grabs in this year's format?
