Great run Nina, well deserved 1st WC win
  • 10 0
This looks like a first of many World Cup wins for Nina. Looking forward to seeing more of her on the top step. I hope she wins an overall just like Regina Steifl back in the day.
  • 1 1
 Is she a privateer?
  • 6 0
@powderturns: last year she was, this year she technically isn't, as she founded her own team.
  • 12 0
@Verbl-Kint: Regina Stiefl is mostly famous in Germany for her performance in the "Aktuelles Sportstudio"... www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGhQtR18PUI
that's unfortunately what most ignorant germans still think mountainbiking is like
  • 7 0
@Mocope: I have a good feeling that a new generation of riders from Germany will be changing this impression in the coming years, both in XC and DH.
  • 2 0
Before she started I thought she should take it easy, trust on her skills and progress steadily. But this time the risk paid off and the run was a pleasure to wach. The first World Cup win was well deserved! I hope the insured riders recover quickly and we see all the strong female riders at competitive races in 2021.
  • 7 0
Crazy to think she was born the same year that the last german worldcup win took place.. I already watched that on eurosport haha.

My god - the men’s elite top 5 separated by a second. That’s an insane level of competition.

Martin Whiteley/YT Mob do seem to have a knack for finding/fostering talent. I'm so glad they held onto Angel through a few injury-riddled seasons, now he's really showing us what he's got! Not to mention Oison coming through the ranks...
  • 10 0
Not really coming through the ranks when you win everything from day one. Kid is impressive.

Wonder if Bernard Kerr will complain about gravity working and air escaping his tyre.
  • 25 15
well if your referring to his comments regarding angel suarez race run #1 then i'm 100 percent with bernard!! angel left the track outside that pole and didn't enter back in on the spot he left. rules should be the same for everyone in every race.
  • 11 1
@striveCF15: at the time it looked to me like he skipped over the pole about a foot up, which was pretty common practice in the stumps in Leogang right?
  • 30 2
@striveCF15: It's more the fact that he is very often complaining about stuff.
  • 1 0
 @hasteTHEday: HAHAHAHA xD
  • 4 2
@AlanMck: angel landed outside the tape, in leogang people where landing inside, that‘s the difference in my book.
when you‘re able to gap 10m over the tape re-enter inside i‘m totally fine with your gain Smile
  • 5 0
@hasteTHEday: Truth. Chap headed off to the EWS and complained about 90% of the time about the stages. . ..which were basically EWS format stages. How did he not know what enduro races would be like?
  • 43 1
Nice of Rob to point out that while the gaps between riders is shorter, we do see less of their run. We tend to be quite harsh with Redbull TV, and perhaps it's not always necessary. But I must ask; why would they choose to show the flat pedal immediately after the massive rock garden? Did no one think maybe fans would prefer the massive rock garden?
  • 3 12
flag nhlevi (Oct 18, 2020 at 6:15) (Below Threshold)
There are 2-3 riders on track at the same time and they opted to show their starts (cut in) and the bottom of their runs (live-ish), is all. You can't make a 3h live feed out of a 1.5h race
  • 13 0
@nhlevi: ...and I was not suggesting so. At all. I specifically called into question the airing of the flat pedal after the rock garden instead of the rock garden itself.
  • 2 5
@Rudy2455: As I've said. I guess that's when they catch up live with the rider
  • 3 4
@Rudy2455: What would they show instead? Another rider at some segment before that? The feed is focused on one rider at the time to make it less confusing. So if they are filming bottom say 3/5 of the track they have to show the flat gravel section because the rider has to go through it after that rock garden section.
  • 11 1
@nhlevi: ....NFL.... 3.5 hours of broadcast for 60(more like 1Cool minutes of "playing time". They could if they wanted.
  • 4 0
@Archimonde: Maybe the gaps between riders could be a bit bigger. The first down the hill could have a 1:15 or 1:30 min gap instead of 1 min. On a track of 3ish minutes this is a big difference for viewers and it wouldn't make the race a lot longer (only 10-15 minutes).
  • 1 2
@vid1998: I get why it as a live event, but the Crankworks races this summer that were non-live but used POV footage and had more camera shots made for a pretty good experience.

  • 7 2
Gwin was under quarantine, got married, finished that house, etc. His mind isn't in the game this year.
  • 9 0
I dont think its as simple as saying he's done. The reality is Gwin isn't getting worse, but the level of competition is literally the most intense its ever been. The top 5 were all in the same second. So yes, to your point hes not done... but he's gotta do something mighty special to beat the level of talent there is today.
  • 4 0
@jomacba: Historically, "doing something mighty special" is kinda his thing....
  • 3 0
@jomacba: like win without a chain?
  • 4 0
@hamncheez: Historically yes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he can't. I'm just saying he's gotta put together a flawless run, because chances are somebody at the elite level is going to. If he wants to win it, its gotta be him. There is no denying that Gwin is one of the greatest riders of all time, but eventually that time comes to an end for everybody. I'm grasping onto the idea that Minnaar is gonna take a win here one of these days, and we all know he can. But the question is not "can he?", the question is "will he?". Listen to Minnaar speak when he gets to the hot seat. He's not in denial of what it takes to win the race. One small mistake will likely cost the race.
  • 25 0
Thibaut Daprela starts his elite career with 2 straight 2nd place qualifiers, and a 3rd and 10th in those races respectively. Third in the overall standings halfway through the season. Insane!
  • 14 0
The French are set up to rule the World Cup for many years to come, they haven't had this many fast young riders since the mid 90's when they dominated the sport.
  • 8 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: it's insane. Apparently there are like three pierrons now, the rest of the chillzone guys, daprela, thirion looking fast again, oh and vergier and bruni. At least half of those guys are serious podium contenders and I'm sure I missed a few...

 @wolfsberg: and don't forget coulanges

Really great exciting racing in Maribor! Nina! Loris! But really embarrassing to see Rob and Claudio talking, when in the background Women's winning ceremony takes place. Why not show them(also Men´s). I would really like to watch them!!!!! I think that also more than an advertising block, belongs to a competition!
  • 13 0
The entire race today was Claudio claiming the jump wasn't faster and Rob claiming it was, then both going back and fourth as some racers went faster on it and some didn't.
  • 8 0
Yeah same with the mud tire "discussion" the race before. They keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. Still love them, their comments are spot on most of the time and create such a unique vibe, dh feed in other languages is just not the same without them
  • 12 0
@Ryan2949: They need someone much more insightful than Claudio in the commentary box. Claudio repeats the same things over and over. "Have you seen this line?" "Now he needs to keep his brakes open" "He's looking slow, but smooth is fast"
  • 7 0
@Oolex: I just can't stand when he repeat "momentum" every minute

  • 6 1
@tonit91: yeah, he just talks such nonsense most of the time... with him being a former wc racer one would think he knows what to talk about but I guess not...
  • 10 0
Some basic homework on even a few riders is badly needed. Their road to WC, previous results, where they come from, live, a few jobs they might have held down to pay the bills. Can't be that hard to put a few hours in. Equally, some technical details on the bikes, their development. It's v weak at the moment.
  • 10 2
Rob is gold. Always has been and always will be. Claudio though.... I just feel like he isn't contributing anything of value to the commentary... Nothing that say a revolving group of guest co hosts couldn't do... To keep the commentary fresh... Keep Claudio in the mix, particularly at bigger DH race events. But his mic time needs to drastically reduced.
  • 9 3
@tonit91: What are you talking about? Rob is the color commentator who yells a lot and gets people fired up. Claudio provides more insight and catches more nuances and points that out.
At least that's how I perceive it a lot of the time. They both add value. Although I'm sure you are a lot more clueful than the ex wc racer who also managed a dh team.

@mybaben: I feel like its the exact opposite. Cathro would do what Claudio is supposed to do (giving more insight into line choices, difficultys the riders have to face etc.) but with a greater understanding and most likely a bigger vocabulary aswell, all while being as enthusiastic as Claudio.
  • 3 0
@TurboTorsten: Those damn scotts; can't understand a darn thing they say. It would be like a Peanuts cartoon commentating.
  • 2 0
@jomacba: LOL! Holy shit though, what about Danny Hart? And he's a Brit! I'm like, WTF did he say every other word....
  • 3 2
@TurboTorsten: I might agree with you there. I think Cathro may be better than Claudio, but still not what I'd really like to see. What about Eliot Jackson?!!
  • 2 0
 @mybaben: Good shout.

I'm not a roadie, but I love watching the tour de france on ITV (UK channel). Mainly because the commentary is amazing' so much insight into the locations they're passing through, the history of the tour, the route, strategy, the different riders and their stories, the teams and their stories.

Hope the person who was recently saying that Matt walker didn’t deserve his ride liked the taste of their hat.
  • 11 3
Would be nice if we could change our fantasy team betweent the 2 races seeing as some riders get injured etc
  • 5 0
yeah I guess many, including me, had Reece in their team for example. Pretty bad not beeing able to change it, especially if you could change it after qualificatons number one
  • 16 1
I'm just glad the real teams don't ditch their injured riders that easily Wink .

Congrats to Vergier ! Such a nice, positive person, i'm really happy for him !
While i laughed at the Vergier/Jordi vid i think Jordi attitude could have been different and the vid would have been fun too. Because the fun part is not Jordi complaining but Loris making funny sounds while hauling ass. I have no doubt the Fox mechanic is great, but there are other great suspension specialists while world cup contenders / winners are not many.

The gaps in the junior womens race seem pretty big. But if I recall correctly we're still seeing different riders winning (including winning the qualifiers) and Siel consistently in second. May still make it an exciting competition for the overall.
  • 1 0
I don't think it will be close, bc i know leonna pierrini (1st) and i can tell you that if conditions are good, like not totally wet and track is madness, the others can't match her
  • 4 0
Good to see Loris doing well. Maybe he chilled out, stopped puzzling quite so much, and just listened to Jordi! (:

Does anyone know why Brendog wasn't in Maribor?
  • 1 0
Was wondering the same thing. Did he race Worlds? I don't recall seeing him in results there either.
  • 2 0
I was wondering that too. Perhaps, having not been on the UK team for Worlds, he elected not to travel for Covid reasons.

Anyone struggling with redbull TV on smart TV in the UK ????????
  • 1 0
Yes, can't even get replays to work there, on TV or computer, useless and no reason given as to why. I am running an old operating system but friends with new ones are told they are in the wrong country!
  • 1 0
I’ve got 2 smart tv’s, one with the app pre-installed and one I can cast to and I’ve given up on both - just watch it on my phone now.
  • 1 0
I'm using a firestick on an older smart TV (so no pre-loaded redbull app) and the stream was working just fine for me. I did have to reboot the firestick a few days ago as I was kept getting poor image quality/pixelation & streaming issues with a unrelated subscription service over the course of a week; so maybe give your TV and/or internet router a reboot if it's giving you grief

What a race! Today I've realized how much I missed the World Cup.

 Oisin, just killllling it!

Go onto roots and rain, check out Danny hart vs Matt walker and see how ridiculous that comment is. Other than these two rounds, and Maribor last year, Walker has been no where near Danny.
  • 6 0
@freerideglory: congratulations on missing the most tongue in cheek comment ever.
  • 5 0
@freerideglory: Matt is only a couple of years out of juniors and Danny one of the older racers now so of course he will be higher up on roots and rain!! give Matt another 9 years and it might be a different story. Good on him for smashing it this weekend.

  • 2 0
Jeez that top 10 is almost within 2 seconds..
  • 2 3
I don’t know what the answer is.
But the jr men are almost all faster than the Elite Women.
I don’t expect the women to be as fast as the men, but the time difference is crazy.
It’s like a different sport.
  • 7 0
It's almost as if men have a built-in strength advantage...
  • 4 2
Well, why wouldn't they be? They are young men...

It is a different sport and hence they compete at different times. What's the problem? (unless we get into th tranny debate again)
