10:22 am PDT Zink will now be looking to get his line dialled for his second run. Next up is Bienvenido Aguado Alba.

10:24 am PDT Bienvenido Aguado Alba under rotates on the first jump but he gets straight back on his bike to continue his run.

10:41 am PDT Emil Johansson gets a score of 79 for his first-ever Rampage run.

10:44 am PDT Graham Agassiz is the next rider to hit their line.

10:48 am PDT Agassiz seems really happy with his first run and receives 76.33 from the judges. He currently sits in third place.

10:50 am PDT Reed Boggs won the Marzocchi Proving Grounds event and is looking to prove why he should be a Rampage regular at this year's event.

10:53 am PDT Boggs puts down a solid first run, but will it be enough to match Carson Storch?

10:57 am PDT Reed Boggs bumps Agassiz out of the top three with a score of 77.66 as he takes the third-place spot after six riders.

10:58 am PDT Vinny T is dropping in.

11:03 am PDT Vincent Tupin storms into 2nd position with a score of 81.33!

11:04 am PDT Brandon Semenuk will be looking for revenge after last years performance, we could see something very special today if he can put a full run together.

11:06 am PDT Semenuk does not disappoint with an incredible first run.

11:09 am PDT 92.33! Brandon Semenuk takes an early lead and is on his way to his third Rampage win, we are in for some amazing runs if anyone can top that score.

11:13 am PDT Current Standings: 1st. Brandon Semenuk: 92.33 // 2nd. Carson Storch: 85.66 // 3rd. Vincent Tupin: 81.33 // 4th. Emil Johansson: 79 // 5th. Reed Boggs: 77.66 // 6th. Graham Agassiz: 76.33 // 7th. Bienvenido Aguado Alba: 45.33

11:16 am PDT DJ Brandt has a great run with plenty of technical riding and he even tries to backflip the small lip into the finish area.

11:18 am PDT A 70.33 puts Brandt into 7th, he will definitely be looking for areas to build on for his second run.

11:23 am PDT Reece Wallace has some wild moments on his run that takes a different route down the mountain, it will be interesting to see what the judges think.

11:24 am PDT Wallace gets a 66 for his first run, he will definitely need to add something extra to his next run.

11:25 am PDT Brendan Fairclough is next at the start gate, how will his run be perceived this year?

11:28 am PDT Fairclough flips the canyon, that was huge!

11:32 am PDT Brendan Fairclough gets an 87.66 and slots in second position. This year's run scored 20 points higher than last year.

11:37 am PDT Kurt Sorge has crashed near the bottom of the course. He gets up and rolls into the finish area.

11:38 am PDT Sorge gets a 51.66 for his first run of the day.

11:42 am PDT A near-perfect run from Szymon Godziek will surely place him at the top end of the leaderboard.

11:44 am PDT Godziek goes into third with an 86.66.

11:49 am PDT The veteran of Rampage Kyle Strait throws down tons of style in his first run of the day.

11:52 am PDT An 83.33 for Strait puts him into 4th place. The competition is getting tight at the top but we still have some big names to lay down their first runs.

11:58 am PDT Tyler Mccaul is another rider to have a near-perfect run and launches himself all the way into the finish area. This is going to be a very hard day for the judges.

12:03 pm PDT Mccaul gets an 87 and knocks Carson Storch outside of the top three. We are still yet to see another rider Join Semenuk in the nineties.

12:07 pm PDT Thomas Genon was on a super stylish run until he comes up slightly too short at the bottom of the course. He will be looking for more in his second run.

12:12 pm PDT What a huge run from Tom Van Steenbergen!

12:16 pm PDT He goes into second with an 89.66, the margins to make it into the top three are getting slimmer and slimmer.

12:18 pm PDT Ethan Nell has finished third for the past two years, can he go any higher this year?

12:21 pm PDT Nell goes down on the same jump as Genon, he will have to make clean to the bottom in run two to be in contention for a top result.

12:22 pm PDT Ethan Nell sits with a 56 in 14th at this stage.

12:26 pm PDT Andreu Lacondeguy has crashed midway down his run.

12:29 pm PDT Andreu is back on his bike and sending it into the finish area.

12:30 pm PDT Last man at the top of the hill Brett Rheeder will be looking to defend his title from last year.

12:36 pm PDT The almost perfect run from Brett Rheeder could put him in contention with Semenuk but how much will the judges deduct for coming up short on one of the jumps.

12:38 pm PDT Rheeder receives an 84.33 for his first run.

12:44 pm PDT Standings After Run One:
1st. Brandon Semenuk: 92.33 // 2nd. Tom Van Steenbergen: 89.66 //
3rd. Brendan Fairclough: 87.66 // 4th. Tyler Mccaul: 87 //

17th. Thomas Genon: 49.66 // 18th. Bienvenido Aguado Alba: 45.33 //
19th. Cam Zink: 0 // Andreu Lacondeguy: 0 //

13:26 pm PDT We are still waiting for riders to drop in for their second runs. Don't worry you haven't missed any of the action from Rampage during the technical difficulties on the Red Bull stream.

13:31 pm PDT Cam Zink will be first to attempt a second run and he should be coming down soon.

13:32 pm PDT Zink crashes again on his second run.

13:33 pm PDT Cam Zink is back on the bike to try and complete his run.

13:35 pm PDT Zink gets a score of 36.66.

13:38 pm PDT Lacondeguy crashes out at the bottom after holding onto such a wild run.

13:41 pm PDT Andreu Lacondeguy gets a 52.33 from the judges, putting him in 16th place.

13:44 pm PDT Disaster for Bienvenido Aguado Alba as he crashes again on the first jump.

13:49 pm PDT Thomas Genon has a cleaner second run and moves into 13th with a 74.

13:55 pm PDT A closer look at Bienvenido Aguado Alba's YT after his crash on the first jump. It definitely looks like the headtube snapped.

14:00 pm PDT Ethan Nell secures 86 from the judges after an improved run even with a flat tire.

14:05 pm PDT Current Standings:
1st. Brandon Semenuk: 92.33 // 2nd. Tom Van Steenbergen: 89.66 //
3rd. Brendan Fairclough: 87.66 // 4th. Tyler Mccaul: 87 //

19th. Bienvenido Aguado Alba: 45.33 // 20th. Cam Zink: 36.66 //

14:09 pm PDT Reece Wallace adds some new tricks and goes cleaner than his first run but will it be enough to improve his score?

14:10 pm PDT Wallace improves his score to 72 but that is only good enough for 15th.

14:14 pm PDT DJ Brandt doesn't improve on his first run and will stay in 16th position.

14:18 pm PDT Reed Boggs goes big for his second run, let's see if the judges will move him further up the scoreboard.

14:20 pm PDT Boggs gets three extra points but 80 isn't enough to make it inside the top ten.

14:24 pm PDT Kyle Strait crashes near the bottom after what had been such a clean run. He will remain in 9th position.

14:27 pm PDT Rheeder had some mistakes in his first run but if he can make it cleanly to the bottom could we see a new leader?

14:28 pm PDT Brett Rheeder has a perfect run, this is going to be a tough one. He should receive a higher score but how much higher?

14:30 pm PDT Rheeder is the first rider to make it into the nineties since Semenuk's first run but it's not enough to take the lead and he sits second with 91.

14:35 pm PDT Current Standings:
1st. Brandon Semenuk: 92.33 // 2nd. Brett Rheeder: 91 //
3rd. Tom Van Steenbergen: 89.66 // 4th. Brendan Fairclough: 87.66 //
5th. Tyler Mccaul: 87 // 6th. Szymon Godziek: 86.66 //
7th. Ethan Nell: 86 // 8th. Carson Storch: 85.66 //
9th. Kyle Strait: 83.33 // 10th. Vincent Tupin: 81.33 //
11th. Reed Boggs: 80 // 12th. Emil Johansson: 79 //
13th. Graham Agassiz: 76.33 // 14th Thomas Genon: 74 //
15th. Reece Wallace: 72 // 16th. DJ Brandt: 70.33 //
17th. Andreu Lacondeguy: 52.33 // 18th. Kurt Sorge: 51.66 //
19th. Bienvenido Aguado Alba: 45.33 // 20th. Cam Zink: 36.66 //

14:37 pm PDT Carson Storch blows out his rear wheel and that's the end of his second run. He will remain in 8th place.

14:42 pm PDT Szymon Godziek goes wild for his last run! But, was it good enough for a podium position?

14:44 pm PDT Godziek doesn't improve his score and stays 6th.

14:47 pm PDT Tom Van Steenbergen will not be taking his second run which leaves just Brendan Fairclough and Brandon Semenuk after Tyler Mccaul's run.

14:56 pm PDT Tyler Mccaul also doesn't improve his score.

14:57 pm PDT Brendan Fairclough is preparing to drop in and with just two points between him and a podium finish what can he do to improve his first run?

15:00 pm PDT Brendan Fairclough decides to pay tribute to Jordie Lunn instead of trying to improve his score.

15:02 pm PDT This means Brandon Semenuk takes the win, making it his third Rampage title.

Ok now Brendog really got robbed. How is Tom v S's run better, I can't understand. And if Brendog doesn't land a podium I boycott all Rampages from now on.
  • 33 0
I dunno - the level is so high this year. I'm just pleased he's been judged more fairly (in my opinion), and happy for him that he's up there!

its rampage, if semenuk and rheeder dont physically die on their run one of them will win, the whole thing has been nothing but a popularity contest for years.

@thesharkman: I'd say things are working out great for him on both sides of the sport. Fourth at rampage, sixth at a wc.

Best Rampage yet. Everyone killed it so hard this year.
  • 9 0
What a run. What a line. Total embodiment of what rampage stands for. I’m so glad he got the recognition this year from the judges (should have been at least 3rd IMO). But that second run and the pushups for Jordie on one of the sickest features of the hill. Total class act - much respect. He’s got my vote for people’s choice.

As both a spectator and watching the replay after, I thought he had the winning run last year. The guy comes down the mountain like a runaway train!
  • 10 6
I don’t really get why it’s all or nothing at rampage. They could do it like in some of the skateboard events where they allow one or two crashes before they cut the sore. Just rate the features that were cleared and the overall impression.. Andreu and Zink are exactly what Rampage is all about and should not get robbed because of a single crash.
  • 5 1
@stefkrger: but when everybody else can do insane stuff without crashing, that should be the benchmark. Also on a skateboard the park is a closed space that’s easy to start up again in
  • 4 0
@stefkrger it sounds almost like you’re arguing for them to be judged by what they might have done instead of what they actually did. Which sounds crazy to me, although I could make an argument for an event where they all have a couple days to ride the course and clean their best line before judging. But they’ll probably never do that because it wouldn’t work as well as a tv show.
  • 1 2
@stefkrger: Skateboarders also often compete without helmets, which is equally as stupid as encouraging someone to continue to compete on one of these courses after potentially having a head injury or another injury that person might not be aware of.
  • 2 0
Fact. Second run had me on the edge of my seat. I can not imagine the adrenaline running through his body after surviving what looked like imminent destruction on the flat spin to backflip combo off line into chunder field. Dude's a mental.
  • 5 1
@terr0r86: Pretty amazing how many Dr's are on here that can diagnose a concussion from a computer screen. Surprised all wannabe doctors aren't complaining about all the sub concussive events that happen every time these guys land a drop to heavy. Considering that's what the evidence suggests causes CTE. Let the onsite medical staff do there jobs, or go become a doctor and get a job at rampage ya bunch of Nancy's.
  • 2 0
Yup. That was the loudest I yelled at the TV for the foreign a half hour broadcast by far…legit!

There is so much in this years Rampage that speaks volumes about what Semenuk has done for the event and the freeriding community. The nose bonks, the flat drop backflips, the double drops, the fast plant 3's, and the one footed can variations. Sure, Semenuk wasn't the first person to ever do some of those things, but I feel like he's helped bring them to this stage with his previous runs and video parts. It has to be pretty cool as a competitor to see so many of your fellow competitors emulate things you've done as part of there runs. Regardless of where he finishes today, I think he should take pride in how far he's pushed the sport of freeriding.

I stood on his lilypad double drop thing last year, and the idea of flipping into it makes me sick to my stomach.
  • 14 2
@rcrdrvr: I don’t think Semenuk did any of the oppo shit. He back flipped off a drop onto a lilypad. You got some pretty household names in that judging tent, you think they don’t get this as well as you?

@anchoricex: 1st hit + oppo 360...fronty that shit and give us some bigger hits...we all know he's got tricks on lock. Aaaaand by the way i love watching him style that big bike even more than slope comp mastery...The nerves from the biggest lines though is what Rampage is all about to me. If i were a judge i would even that out a bit...slope riders might just get the same for an oppo 360 as non slope guys would get for a regular 360, etc.!

@gnarnaimo: nope...this is Rampage...amplitude should be scored higher period! If you just want another slope event then well you got it bro. Even the announcers were like 'oh here we go oppo on the first drop' and 'well i guess we can see how the judges are scoring this'...comments like that are very telling. This comp was ruined with that first score for Semenuk. Why should someone risk their lives when the best tricks are going to win...lame! Even some of the legends of freeride are giving up second runs because of this very issue.
  • 5 5
@rcrdrvr: Yes, this is rampage, a judged freeride event and doing a technical trick off of massive features will always score better than a straight air off of technical features (and it always has in this event, people are just pushing the boundaries further and further). The more technical the trick, the higher it will score. Sorry you don't like to see people tricking in this event, but this is the progression of this sport. Your entitled to your opinion, but 98% of spectators and the judges disagree with you.

Again...this is Rampage!
  • 6 3
@rcrdrvr: Brandon and Brett both rode rowdy, unique big lines and complimented those lines with very technical tricks. For example, straight airing the 50' canyon gap vs. tricking it this year is a big part of the reason Brendan Fairclough scored so much higher this year vs. Last.
Again, you can have your opinion, but that's all it is.

Its so funny seeing all the negative comments about the current state of Rampage coming from people who didn't know Rampage existed only until recently when it blew up in popularity. What a bunch of clowns.

@scott-townes: wow bro...name calling, used to respect your ideas...been watching since the beginning, fell in love with free ride even before rampage, found pinkbike later, but ok, you figured me out. Dropped off a scary 25 ft rock drop to very steep shale landing way back in 91...ate shit 20 times before i landed it only to ride out onto the street and run into a car, up in Downeyville...would show the picture, but it was a poloroid, lol.  @scott-townes: ok, and i didn't own a Sunday either or a Stinky...look at my age bro, you really think i wasn't aware back in the day...I have no idea who bender is either. I can't even bring myself to own a current trail bike. The closest I've come is a reign sx...i love big drops and rough terrain even at almost 50. I also love slope. Love the Rheeder/Semenuk battle as well. Also like Rogatkins crazy spins over oppo mastery, so yeah kinda opinionated about where the sport is heading. Also love Brandons big bike edits...so much f*cking style...look back at any edits of his and you'll here me preach the same. Not a fan boy at all either. I want my nerves to be fried by the danger at Rampage, so Semenuks run was kinda boring to me. Now, when he almost died of that rock bonk a few yrs back i almost cried with joy because of how sick and dangerous that was.

 @rcrdrvr: chill out dude!
  • 62 6
lol every year we got cry babies talking about how there needs to be more big and gnarly on rampage. every goddamn year. this year we had enough coverage from so many riders who virtually all said "yo armchair kids saying that, you're not here and you don't know what it's like so chill" and we STILL get em. Someone posted above saying they looked over semenuks lily pad last year and said backflipping it would make them sick. You're a fool if you don't think Semenuk was doing big shit. He had a blend of everything in that run, it was a masterclass.

Semenuks run was f*cking A1, backflip onto the f*cking lily pad was crazy. Think about free ride vids. They've always been about doing tricks out in the forest, whipping your style around and just showcasing on big built features for the sake of riding bikes. That's free ride guys, what you saw on the podium today was free ride. Semenuk in top spot, dude looked extra comfy on that bike, threw in nice little detail tricks everywhere, manuals, big features, drops, sweet banger tricks, and was awarded accordingly. After rewatching some of these runs I see a lot of sections that were pretty straight down, Brandon was out here using more of the mountain trying to take advantage of both sides. Line choice? Check. This shit is free ride, I'm sorry if you don't feel that way. Take big feature and add trick to it like backflipping off a cliff = harder then going a little faster and straight shooting it, end of story. It's harder, the judges in the tent know that, and Brandon was awarded accordingly. Going faster is what you're really wanting to see, like Andreu. No disrespect to him but sometimes charging like that makes it so you can't make it to the bottom. Sometimes downhill racers gotta apply brakes or they blow it, this is still part of winning. Geeeeet over it. I'll see y'all again next year.
  • 13 3
@rcrdrvr: yeah, but you are a genuine retard and no one cares what you think.
  • 6 3
@anchoricex: This year seemed like an especially good balance of terrain, riding styles, and fair scoring. I still prefer to see less refined, raw lines but if tricks are such a big part of things I'd rather see things go this way with more refined landings that aren't breaking off so many riders. The last thing anyone wanted to see was someone getting seriously hurt this year and all things considered today was a success in that sense. One other interesting observation was 3-4 amazing top to bottom runs got spoiled by the most slopestyle feature at the venue. Maybe they just need to do away with the standard big air jump they build down in the flats every year? Sucks to see some of the best runs in Rampage history get spoiled by a trick jump at the end.

  • 3 0
@chriskneeland: did it split the headtube? That can be caused by fibres getting caught in the mold as it goes together, and definitely should not be happening.
  • 2 0
@brianpark: Yup. Split the headtube. The fork's steerer tube came right through it.
  • 5 0
@TheR: What do you mean by 90%? Don't you mean everyone but the 15 other guys also at rampage?
  • 2 0
What I thought was crazier then the snapped frame was he didn't eject on the second frontflip from what I remember. He just held on with his feet still on the pedals. He looked committed to a front flip case to another front flip and ride out
  • 2 0
@chriskneeland: I punched a hole in my carbon Norco once by casing on a log. Carbon is better for some hits but a small knot just obliterates carbon if you hit it straight on
  • 1 0
 @moose-tastes-good: Yeah, good point
  • 2 0
@brianpark: all frame can snap at that point especially if you case a jump in the same fashion. I’ve seen intense, Giant, Santa Cruz, YT, GT, etc all frames will snap if they land on the apex of the landing. It’s literally the weakest part of any mtb. Aluminum frames can also crack there too, as there is usually a weld stress relieved concentration. I have also seen titanium frames break there.

If you go and check out his practice runs on that feature he was over sending it and landing to flat. So I bet the mind games got into his head already.

@monkeybizz: Except what, 15 of the 20 bikes that ran this week were carbon? And only one broke? And guys have been using carbon bikes at Rampage since around 2012? And how many have broke up to this point? I guarantee aluminum frames have broken at Rampage. I bet the number of broken aluminum frames are higher...
  • 3 0
@TheR: at least one alloy bike broke during practice at Rampage this year.
  • 1 0
 I hear they're having a 2 for 1 deal
  • 1 0
@brianpark: Ha! That's an interesting fact. And I would have no problem buying the same model of alloy bike that broke. These are the best guys in the world riding the most extreme terrain possible -- not typical use by any means -- and by and large, these bikes survive. People are always going to break things, either through a freak hit, abuse, manufacturing flaw, whatever. But by and large, these are durable products for the likes of regular guys.

  • 8 0
@Dropthedebt: as good as it was, Kelly had a clean line in and a long run out. Brens was equally impressive.
  • 15 4
Not saying that his canyon gap wasn't gnarly, because it was insane, but flipping down drops and step downs will always be gnarlier than flipping jumps. TVS' flip of Notorious is a 53 foot drop, and rheeders flip 1 can drop is still 50 feet.
  • 11 2
@leon-forfar: except that Fairclough's approach to the jump was super technical and his landing was an insanely small patch. Both TVS and Rheeders had clean approaches and highway wide manicured landings so I have to disagree that either of those were more impressive. Judges clearly sent the signal that big mtn slopestyle is rewarded more than technical precision riding.
  • 2 0
 @Dropthedebt:
None was taken :-) All good :-)
  • 2 1
@ppp9911: yup...sad for an event like Rampage!
  • 4 1
@ppp9911: That is fair, but popping a flip with a lip is sooo much more predictable easy to adjust than step downs and drops. The landing needs to be long and wide (really not wide when you consider how much distance/speed they are going, especially if it is windy). All three moves are savage, and obviously neither of us would try it, but I would argue that they are all gnarly in their own way. But if a gun were held to my head and I had to choose which to flip, I would 100% go for 55 foot jump than a 53/50 foot flat drop flip, because at least if you have experience flipping, you can likely get it around. Can you imagine missing the pop on a flip off a 50 foot cliff? Brendogs, as long as you have the speed to get over the gap, the consequence is much lower.

@Gravity-Fiend: Just comparing to the scores that came before and after it and what those guys did.

Do you really think it was 8 points better than Rheeder's... even with Rheeder's case? He road out of that and had the drop flip in there with way more tech and risk than anything in Semenuk's run. Beyond that spot his run was way better in the scope of a free ride line.

Same with guys like TVS. Sorry but that run was insane. Brendogs. 6 Points over Godziek? No way. Had he scored say... a 90.2 or something like that and was sitting in first... then I'd say o.k. maybe. Though I still think TVS run was better. But at least it's reasonable. They basically through this very Semenuk score up there and then went oh hell that's too high. Lets give Wallace a 66 so people don't trip out when the next few guys get 80's. I basically look at the scores related to each other and there's just no way that he's 3 points better than TVS. 5 over TMAC.

Yeah TMAC didn't do any spins but his line had WAY more risk and exposure. Better flow. Etc.

Take 2-3 free Semenuk points away and everyone's in the mix where they should be.

Andreau goes down... Someone started cutting onions.
  • 3 3
I'm not crying! You're crying! Tears of joy!! How the hell did he get back on?!
  • 23 2
@cirkusboy: after a hit like that, him getting back on made me really nervous. At what point should a rider be forced to end their run after a hit to the head? Mtb needs to take head injuries more seriously.
  • 2 0
Someone's gonna cut some more on Sunday Wink
  • 9 3
@kookseverywhere: exactly. He shouldn't have been allowed back on the bike. That was not heroism but lack of common sense.
  • 9 2
Looked to me like he rung his bell And was out of sorts / disoriented when he was struggling to get back on the bike. I hope that wasn’t the case, if so he never should have been allowed to ride down.
  • 3 0
@Camstyn: He beat up a small boulder and went on to throw a massive trick.
  • 8 0
@Slabrung: In NHL hockey they make a player got to a "quiet room" after a hit to the head to be assessed for a concussion. Mtb needs to enact something similar. A WC run from Brannigan a few years ago same thing happened, was obviously rattled, kept going and ended up crashing two more times down the mountain.
  • 7 1
@kookseverywhere: I felt the same way for sure! I work with/around high level and potentially high risk athletes. All of them have gone through concussion baseline testing, so if there is a hard hit to the head or a TBI is suspected they are immediately treated accordingly. They are also not allowed to perform again until they pass their test correctly after the incident. All high impact sports and extreme sports need to get with the program. I don't care if I look goofy on the mountain with my back protector and neck brace, mouth guard and full face. The research is proven.
  • 4 1
@endlessblockades: Was happy to see that but another consecutive hard hit to the head could result in severe brain injury or death, if he was concussed. It’s not something you want to risk.
  • 8 1
@Camstyn: considering that’s pretty much exactly what happened to Jordie you think they’d be a little more cautious about it...
  • 5 1
Am I the only one who thought it was a bum ankle and not head related?!
  • 7 2
@LaXcarp: That's what saw, messed up something on his leg and possibly his shoulder. As well he's trying to get on a bike on a steep hill and he's shorter guy. Bunch of armchair Dr's in here.
  • 2 0
 @MikeGruhler:

Hope so. I just can’t help but think that a tragedy is going to happen sooner or later at this event and I was relieved when he walked away after struggling to get back on the bike. I hope he’s alright.
  • 2 0
@Slabrung: judging from the video when I watched it live, there was some intensity between Andreau and the medics. They didn't want him back on the bike because after he stood up he was stumbling around (clearly concussed) but he's so aggressive in nature and started punching the ground and was not taking no for an answer. Dude is an absolute animal and nothing/no one was going to stop him from finishing his run. Nothing but respect for the guy, true grit.

 Human move brendog. So cool!

The competition is the setting but I don't really care for the raw gymnastic performance and to quantify each run with a score sounds absurd.. probably inevitable but absurd. Each run has to be appreciated from each rider perspective, it's not something you can compare What I really love and especially this year is how each run is a display of the user character, creativity, emotions. And from this perspective, I think some runs were really powerful. Andreu grit and determination, still charging when going offline. Brendan commitment and creativity and how classy it is to offer his last run as a Jordie celebration instead og trying to get more for himself... They are great role models. I wish they would be much more mainstream than what we see in the other media

  • 11 8
This is literally a slopestyle all day long, brendog sending most gnarly line ever and gets 4th and reeder doing what he's comfortable with gets 2nd? I generally think even Lacondeguy should be 3rd in this shitty ranking even that he crashed...
  • 6 0
"... the people's choice award, and that is an award that is chosen by the people..."

Ok.

Congrats riders. Glad most of you guys are walking out of there injury free with at least 1 full pull in the bag. Truly amazing riding. The fact that we can come on here and argue about judging in regards to so many different people means that all those people had great runs. Getting into the top 10 for Rampage is no joke these days. Judges... thanks for completing the thankless task of judging this event. For the most part you can argue a few points here and there but the order is pretty solid. RB crew... thanks for another amazing event. Zink... sorry you couldn't get a full pull down dude. I truly feel gutted for you. That sucks. Go focus on that record setting back flip. You got this. Reed... You killed it this year. Personally liked you for the top 10. Score was a bit soft brother. TMAC. Be proud of 5th this year. For pure gnar and spirt of free ride your line was the best. And position in the top 5 could have been yours for that run depending on judging criteria. TVS. Same for you dude. That run had me on edge the whole way down. As it should. Godziek... dude... that run was so sick. And I gotta say this... the potential rider list for Proving Grounds next year... that event gonna have to start getting ready right now. Reed Boggs. DJ Brandt. Emil. Genon. Zink. Alba. Juan. Lacon. Wallace. Billy. Conor. Rogatkin. Oscar. Remy. Riddle. Could even see Casey Brown and 1 or 2 other ladies there. Gee. Bizet.
  • 2 0
Do Zink and Lacon have to take part in proving grounds? I thought once you won a Rampage you get automatically invited every year.
  • 4 1
I think no judge or commentator should decide what „the future of the sport“ is. The event should rather be about personal progression, and only viewers should vote in different categories e.g. best trick run, best gnarly descends, best drop, best fluidity, for at least a day after the event, then this feedback is published, and everyone can make his opinion on the event. The concept of „winning an event“ is so outdated.

  • 2 0
I thought he’d be in the top 4 with that, potential winner if it weren’t for coming up short on the one jump. I thought the fact that he saved it and recovered so quickly would help but I guess not
  • 17 1
He cased two jumps badly. If Rampage is gonna be about the tricks, then I guess you score it accordingly

if anyone else did that run the score would be way higher, just because the judges know he can do it better they really knocked his score, which isn't really fair
  • 5 2
I didn't think Semenuk's run should have been scored head-and-shoulders above everyone else's....maybe I need a replay. If that local kid hadn't dinked his whip he'd be #1 I think.

yup this should not be judged like joyride, this is Rampage, or it was Rampage.
  • 3 1
The people have spoken! The People's Choice for me are the real rampage (free riding) contest winners. The judges top 3 are just bigger and steeper dirt jump runs, 90% of their lines are just so clean and man made. It ain't Rampage.
  • 5 1
I just want to add the difference between the freeriders and the dirt jump boys is that it feels like the freeriders attack their lines more. Unlike the other guys who just want to be precise to set up for a good trick which is good if we just want tricks, but this is Rampage we want gnarly runs. ex. It's not perfect but Andreu Lacondeguy run is the essence of Rampage

Another amazing rampage! I think the scoring was pretty decent and consistent. They rewarded technical and smooth riding the most I think which is good. However, I always enjoy runs like Aggy's, Sorge's, and Strait's. Aggy's line was actually my favorite with the most massive step downs of anyone I think and the speed never let up the entire run.
  • 2 1
The riders have a good idea how the event will be judged going in so how can anyone be upset that Semenuk‘s run was exactly what the judges were looking for? If “big mountain” runs got the highest scores does anyone actually think Semenuk couldn’t win it? The dudes not there to show up, he’s a mercenary, he expects to win whatever he enters and he usually does.
  • 1 0
I'm pretty sure Tom van steezburger shit himself. Anyone else see the dark brown stain when he was pulling into the finish corral? I've had two co workers shit themselves for no good reason....never trust a fart. If he did he had ample reason. He probably didnt have another pair of white pants for run two. That was gnarly. I think szymon got underscored...I think Brandon just figured out a line that had more trick jumps than anyone. I think andreu probably shouldn't have been given his bike back. Rampage this year was awesome. I just cant believe nobody commented on TVS pooping his pants....

Turning it into a popularity contest isn’t really worthy at this level of competition imo. Because we all know there’s going to be a bunch fanboi voting in that situation. Most of us will be back regardless; when it’s all said and done it’s all about the awesome riding and even the heartbreaks too.

It’s funny how every year they mess up the scoring. They’ll end up having people separated by one tenths of a point this year, they keep up what they’re doing right now.

I think Rampage should get rid of judging, it’s just silly, there are no real criteria for it, it is inconsistent, changes every year, just leave it be.
