Today's racing built up until it became a monster. It started slowly, with riders rolling out of the pits and tension building as they tackled the two-hour climb up to stage one. Once on track, it rose to fever pitch as the world's best enduro racers, and the last battles of the 2016, began to play out.

Martin Maes has been flying all day, demolishing the field by 30 seconds. Many people have been waiting in expectation for him to stand on the top step, so there is lots of breath being held for him tonight. In the championship race, Richie Rude is in second, with Oton behind him in ninth and as it stands Rude's lead appears unassailable, as Oton needs to win to challenge him and must find 52 seconds tomorrow. But, let's not count chickens before they hatch

Cecile already has the title sewn up for the women's series, and seems to be riding even faster than ever - once again, soaring clear of the field. In the under-21's race, a puncture on stage one didn't help Seb Claquin's tie-breaker fight with Adrien Dailly. Seb's flat may be the least of his worries Adrien's time would have placed him in second in the GC! Speculation aside, the final EWS of 2016 was set for a dramatic climax - racing will finish on what may be the gnarliest trail this year - "Men's DH." It looks to be a big one...

2017 EWS headline: Jared Graves says he "unexpectedly lost all of his specialzed bikes and gear" and is "forced" to ride ride on old Yeti Cycles SB6C

It just so seems that he has had most of his ews crashes on Specialized Bikes. Not the luckiest move so far.
  • + 4
WhenI first heard he moved to special ed bikes I thought for sure he would come crawling back to yeti after one season. That was metaphorical at first, Now he will literally have to crawl back.

The guy just can't catch a break at the moment... Actually let me rephrase that... Crap jokes aside I'm glad he's OK. He's had such bad luck recently and I hope that changes for next season...

Dislocated ankle? That sounds pretty bad to me.
  • + 6
@dthomp325: Coming from someone who tore 5 ligaments in one knee... Seems like it could have been worse, especially considering his helmet was wrecked. Being told it looks bad, only to find out it was an ankle seems good to me. So, once again, glad to hear it wasn't as bad as it looked Graves... Heal up man.

@dthomp325: not really.. before going to the ambulance he finished on his bike the whole stage two.. i mean of course to us it was clear he wasn't feeling good becase he was going slowly just to finish the stage but if you can stay on your bike it means it isn't so much worse! He'll be back in less than one month.. i hope so

Lol "isabeau nipping at ceciles heels" I'd hardly call it that. Cecile is so far ahead of the rest its not even funny. And people win about Rachel Atherton dominating! Although I guess rach has the longest dh streak in history...

Maybe we can start a go fund me page for him. Collect enough money to buy him back to a winning team.

Wow...how is my memory here....season before last (2014) Jared held the series lead on a 26er(SB66c) till the Colorado race where they unveiled the new bike and finished out the season on it. lol He changed the wheels and fork and podiumed at Pietermaritzburg DH on that 26er too....2 tuff seasons but I still believe he will be a contender next year.
