I can't belive! In women only 4 Junior and 11 in Elite!
C'mon girls!!!!! One more in juniors at least for the podium! You can go down walking the track and you got it!!!
There may be travel restrictions keeping non-professional riders from training and racing (with proper coaching). And female riders still have a hard time getting pro support, unfortunately.
There was a Red Bull world pump track championships event just outside of Basel last year. They had to appeal to the audience to get female volunteers to just ride around slowly so the winner would qualify
Canada, New Zealand and Australia federations didn’t allow juniors to race unless they were on a trade team, hence no junior women/men attending from there. Top medal contenders were held back by their national bodies.
@korev: Women arent interested in sport in general. Never mind a sport like this. I don't know why people act surprised. At every race here there are never more than 7-8 women and 300 men. It's not even on the radar of most girls.
It's been talked about for days, I don't understand how people missed that info...it's literally on every MTB site.
They put 2 rounds to get more races in, since they don't have to change locations so often that way.
It is new for mountainbike racing, but it was common in WC BMX racing well before the pandemic. Quick way to get more races in. I hope they're keeping it actually. I think makes it cheaper for everyone, especially the privateers. Travel once, race twice. Even better though (once the pandemic is over, if ever) just get more races in in a single season this way.
@tonit91: sadly i only assumed that it was due to covid but perhaps people should understand if the question is asked perhaps they didnt know or read the information? nothing wrong with me having not seen this information before
But, to increase the women’s numbers they do have to receive more than proportional support.
