Vitus Bikes - Chain Reaction Cycles' in-house brand - have just released details of their new carbon Sommet enduro mountain bikes which will be available later this spring.

Building on the success of the Sommet suspension platform which Vitus Bikes released in 2015, the company has today released the full details on its two all-new carbon enduro bike models. The Sommet CR and CRX feature a full carbon monocoque ABS constructed front triangle, 3K weave with UD finish, full internal cable routing and a BB92 bottom bracket, which enables increased stiffness through a maximised down tube profile.

Both carbon models feature a wishlist components package featuring RockShox Pike forks, a SRAM X1/X01 transmission with RaceFace cranks and additional components from WTB and Nukeproof. The only thing holding you back now is your own limitations!

Vitus’s direct sales model will once again provide riders with a lot of bike for their money with the range topping Sommet CRX retailing at £3799.99 (UK) / €4999.99 (Europe) and $4499.99 (USA) and the Sommet CR at £2564.99 (UK) / €3599.99 (Europe) and $3374.99 (USA).

 Nice looking whip, especially for the money. Though I'm sure we can find some things to bitch about. I'll start with the dangerously narrow rims...not sure how anyone can even get down a trail with those archaic things.

 And that seat tube angle! It's 74,5°, omg so slack. I'm a pinkbiker, I can climb in a bike with 90° ST at the very last.

 I laugh when reading these comments, but if you were a newcomer to the sport and you start reading reviews and forums to make an informed decision you feel the need to have 40mm wide rims, long reach, insanely slack headtube, proper seat tube angle, 10mm stem, 900mm bars, carbon fibre everywhere...... It's getting a bit rediuclous

 *If you are a newcomer, there are only two things to remember; 1) It is all about riding and having fun regardless of kit. 2) A bike with less than 2 bottle cages is unrideable. Unrideable I tell you.

 All joking aside I just checked out their whole lineup and whoever specs their bikes is smart. They seem to put the money where it matters in things like suspension and wheels.

 @ryan83 BB92. I'd love to hear designers' justification for using it, because everybody is going 30mm spindles (seriously, go look at RF's crank lineup, only the Aeffect comes with a 24mm spindle) BBs that allow 30mm axles in a BB92 are pretty suspect, & there aren't really any cranks you can't get in a 30mm spindle these days. heck, if you're going to go 41mm shell, at least go threaded. I dunno, maybe it's cheaper to design for since it uses less material due to a smaller diameter?

 @groghunter that gives me pause as well and is strange. However, there are some clever companies that have come up with retrofit, pressed-to-threaded BB's for this application, including Praxis-works that would make me feel OK down the road. As long as you are going big frame to small spindle and not the other way around (that's not what she said..he he).

 @ryan83 no, there isn't, at least if you want to run cranks with a 30mm spindle. you can get thread-together BBs for 30mm cranks in 46mm BB shells (BB30, PF30, etc) or thread-together BBs for 24mm cranks in a 41mm shell (BB86, BB92, etc,) but you can't get a thread together BB for 30mm cranks in a 41mm shell. there just isn't any room for it.

I'm not that fussed by it, really, because SRAM has a pretty good lineup of GXP cranks, & I like their aesthetic. But if I were designing a frame, I wouldn't use BB92 any more than I'd use a straight 1 1/8" steerer tube. The market has spoken, people want 30mm spindle cranks, & BB92 has problems supporting that standard.

 They're increadibly cheap, and aparently they're actually really good quality. I'm a little weary of not being being able to "try before you buy", but the value looks increadible. Most bikes with the spec of the CRX would be at least two times that price.

 One of my riding buddy's has the alu version and he's broke every other bike he's ever had and the vitus is still going strong, so quality is awesome. Very nice bikes.

 @bridgermurray CRC have a pretty good return policy for bikes- essentially ride it for a bit without breaking it and if it's not what you want they take it back. I forget the time frame but it's at least a month. @ChainReactionCycles?

 For 160mm bikes a lot of companies seem to be going with... 1. horst link suspension 2. longish effective top tubes 3. short 430mm chainstays seems like a winning combo

 sweet lookin' ride for the dough, doesn't look like a budget/house brand bike at all. the only noticeable corner they cut was the alloy rear-end, and frankly, i don't think that's a bad thing. i've broken a couple carbon chainstays in the last 5 years. alloy is a better choice. hey PB, how'bout a full length review? or a head to head with the very sweet lookin' new carbon snab from NS?

 5000 Euros is 3900 pounds (the bike sells for 3800), so, what's the problem, it is basically an exact exchange rate cost.

 Can't speak highly enough about the folks at Vitus. Had a frame defect (drop out at seat stays not in tolerance) causing me real head aches with shifting. I posted about my issues on a vital article and THEY REACHED OUT TO ME to help get me sorted. Worked with the good folks at Vitus customer service and they helped me diagnose the problem and sent me the new seat stays. I was afraid that i'd made a big mistake going with a direct to customer brand because I thought I might not get the same level of support as I would from an LBS bought bike but they really stepped up. Customer service was better than my LBS bike where the amazingly i had another problem with my rear triangle and they wouldn't cover it.

Best bang for buck bikes and the best customer service I've had with a company in the bike industry. Vitus FTW!

 Damn that thing looks so nice. Similar to a propain tyee cf. But this Spec is better and the sommet seems to offer more freedom in shock choice. I' d love to get it in green and combine it with my poison green mattoc

 I'm pretty sure you only get double taxed like hat when it's a full bike . If you did frame only or "parts" I don't think the taxes are as high .

 I've got the non-carbon 2016 model and it rides incredibly well, this looks like an absolutely steal!

At 6300$can. it isn`t that much of a deal.
I would buy a Norco for the same price.
And have, in my opinion better geometrie, value and design.
(this main pivot swing arm looks flexy from here, and tire clearance ???)

 Chainreaction has become a rip-off site, and they do the same with this brand: 4999 eur is more than 5600usd. And they sell it for 4499usd in the states?? Screw them. Buy a commencal or yt instead.

 I bought a Vitus Escarpe PRO 2015 from CRC a few week ago and import it to Canada. Basically, the cost is: bike cost + 130$ shipping + 16% taxes for full bike + 15% taxes (quebec + Canada in my case) + imigration fee (30$ I think) + DHL fee 10$.

 There was an add on CRC stating that on orders over 800 $ they are coevering the import charges. Not sure if it applies to bikes or only bike parts.

 @steviejks I'm pretty sure that was just up to 800, not over 800. At least as far as the US is concerned. It used to be 200, I believe. Unless there was a more recent advert with that happening.
