Minnaar seems to be the daddy on the WC being kind and real to everybody. Never been a big fan of him but for the 2 past seasons I changed my mind and genuinely appreciate him now. This season Gwin also showed another face that I quite like too.
@Balgaroth: I used to frequent Gregs parent bike shop when i was getting into DH.... I broke my bike and Greg let me and a Buddy pay off one of his 222's over the course of a year!! My buddy took the forks and Drivetrain, I took the Frame and wheels) - What a legend! I raced that Orange for 8 years before finally retiring it! He is the most genuine guy!
Was at fort William a week before the World Cup riding when he was practicing, he spent the whole day getting shitty with his mechanic and then got kicked out of the pub that evening for throwing glasses "class act"
YT is killing it with their vids, the entire vibe of the team is great to see. So many great companies to support these days, so little money to spend!
@rota92: anyone else notice how media savvy gwin has become since joining yt, especially with Wyntv? I think hes sucking the last of Gees personality to do it.
@doe222: it would be nice if they spent some of that money on quality control. The bikes are huge piles of shite. Great when they work but Christ I have a different problem every week and did on my last one too.
@humoroususername: What problems do you have that make it label as a "huge pile of shite"? Acutally customer support is pretty good at yt and I doubt that the bikes are that bad since they get 10/10 reviews and have lots of happy customers.
@hamncheez: amazing that I who have owned three faulty yt bikes get new propped by people who have never owned even one.
I could literally spend an hour describing my problems with YT bikes and their support. My wicked couldn't keep a chain on no matter what I did. A friend had exactly the same issue. The frame developed play outside the bearing, the bos fork gave trouble and they were uncontactable, the cranks failed and ur would not return calls or emails for over a month. I got told 5 times a manager would call me back and it never happened.
Then I bought a Capra. The rear hub failed after 6 weeks, the chain stay developed play which required me to return my bike and a new frame was required, the rear hub which had just been rebuilt failed again, it was reassembled and returned with loose bolts in a place where I can't tighten them without removing the shock and they fell out and got wedged between the shock and carbon frame almost outta g a hole in it.
A friend of mine is on his fourth carbon Capra frame. These issues are massively widespread. Their customer service has improved massively but I have been left without a bike to ride for about 3 months over the last 3 years because of all the issues I have had.
- the chain-issue sounds as if something was wonky with the setup - many frames develop play - never buy bos. They don't perform better than proper serviced rockshox or fox but cost a fortune and if you have a problem you can't fix it yourself if you need spares - if the crank fails you need to replace the bearing - in general don't buy a bike over the internet if you can't remove a shock - always pack new bearings with additional grease: they work way longer, are more water resistant - I don't know why your friend is on the fourth frame. There were a few issues with the hanger and cracks in some frames from early series but they are not widespread. Also 3 months is not that bad. Sram once kept my shock for almost twice as long
so the bottom line is: your expectations are too high and your mechanical skills are ovbiously too low to buy a bike over the internet. I never would send in stuff during the season. I always repair it myself or ride it out and send it to them in the off-season.
@tabletop84: you do realise how much of a dick you sound there right?
Pretty much everything you said there is nonsense. eg. You don't even know how the crank failed yet you say it needed a bearing. Amazing work detective. that should really fix a crank arm which won't stop loosening.
Where did I say I can't remove a shock? Another idiotic and ridiculous assumption.
I should pack new bearings with extra grease...wonderful news. Please tell me where I replaced bearings? They don't even sell bearing kits for the part that developed play. There are numerous videos on YouTube of the Capra developing play at the hinge of the seat and chain stay.
The chain issues on the Wicked were widespread. Nothing to do with setup, it was incurable.
Also, I have a great relationship with my local bike shop and they never had any problem trying to fix anything I couldn't. And guess what? They couldn't cure it either.
I like how you think I should have rode all season with a frame with play and a snapped freehub and then a wheel with premature bearing failure. I can tell from that one sentence that your mechanical skills are superior.
So the bottom line is: you are a bit of a bell end, arrogant and you don't have a clue what you are taking about.
@humoroususername: I might sound like a dick but your expectations still are too high. Frames developing play is a pretty standard issue. Also the issue with the E.13 cranks are known somehow I didn't have it although I have an early model that should have it. But to call all of their bikes shit is a bit much considering that many if not all manufacturers have issues like these and you just have to work it out on yourself in most cases if you opt for a direct seller brand. Otherwise you'll wait months for your stuff. Keep that in mind when you buy a direct brand and don't whine about waiting forever when something fails mid-season.
first it was thebrakes, then it was the tire, after that he lost the chain... my bet is that he will lose the pedals and will make his run standing on the seat
I wanna see him lose his handle bars and use the steerer to steer. Like those old Nintendo controllers. Extra points if he tries to shoot at obstacles.
I love seeing this paternal side to Gwin, he spends most of the time talking about Angel. It seems like Gwin is really coming into his own in a greater role as a mentor - love it! Makes me feel all fuzzy inside
These YT videos are super high quality. I think they give a lot better perspective into what is going through Gwin and Angel's heads as they prep for the race compared to what Specialized put out last year. You can tell YT are really focusing on the race aspect of the weekend and not so much about pushing product directly with the video.
Yep I realize now the bikes had pretty much no role in the vid. Still feel Gwinnys general demeanor is the antithesis of YT's GOOD F@#$%N TIMES!! image, but whatever. Props to Gwin for not being too much of a choirboy to join/build The Mob. Speaks well of the bike.
@struc: At the end of the day it comes down to winning! Im sure there is a penalty for media coverage without Onzas but in order to win the penalty is apparently worth it!
Anyone know what was the problem with the finish "Scotland" jump that was catching so many people out? Heard comments from riders that they "hope they fix the jump" but nothing on what the issue was with it. Only seemed to be this year, not as many crashes in previous years
Having riden with Dakota Norton I can say he is one of the coolest and most sincere guys Ive ever met cant wait to see him start getting some good finishes!
I raced that Orange for 8 years before finally retiring it!

Haha at the end: Gwin: "Leogang, it's been good to me in the past" seriously??
