Fox Racing Shox recently had a neat little in house event at their massive compound in California. The event was bred through the love for hot wings, and riding bikes. As well this event marked the opening of Fox's all new pump track!
Check inside for more information...After a year and a half in the works the first Hot Wings and Hot Laps event off nearly flawlessly at the
Fox Racing Shox factory. Fox's Elayna Caldwell said "we love hot wings, and love riding our bikes. Once the pump track was finished up at the compound there was a need to combine the two, and thus with the help of Josh, an employee at Fox Racing Shox, Hot Wings and Hot Laps was born."
Not only did this event mark the start of what could be some awesome recreational races, but it was the opening day for Fox Racing Shox's all new pump track. Mark Weir and Brian Cult had big input and shovel time when building the track so big props goes out to them! Any support is good support.
As it is a private compound - the pump track is private too, so the first Hot Wings and Hot Laps event featured mainly Fox Racing Shox employees, all of which had to sign multiple waivers and so forth. This first event was more so designed to be a meet and greet function, and to see how these events could go. Even the Web Developer over at Fox Racing Shox came out to DJ the event and MC the festivities.
The event went down very smoothly, accept for one minor mechanical. Racing was done on kids' bikes, and one unlucky rider managed to break the crank arm off one bike. After it seemed that all hope was lost, one loyal Fox Racing Shox employee ran the bike inside, welded up the crank arm, and they were back racing within minutes. During the downtime Fox allowed contestants to practice the course, but only on 26 inch wheels as to not give an advantage to anyone.
The whole layout was based around a Tri level competition, meaning each contestant would have to perform in 3 different contests in order to win it. It was dubbed "Legs, Wings, and Wheels" which is an original Fox title. Inspiration for the name came from "Pull, Pedal, and Paddle" which was an event that recently went down in Bend, Oregon. The gist of the event was that you had to run, eat a designated amount of hot wings, then do two laps of the pump track, one on a small bike, then one on your own. The person with the best time would take home the cake, which turned out to be a wicked gold trophy that stood about 2 inches tall.
