"We're super excited to have IMBA as a partner for the Freedom Riders project and given all the hard work and advocacy they put into furthering the sport of biking it's truly a natural fit," says KGB co-founder Sam Pope. "The film shows how important trails are to the mountain biking community and how a dedicated group of riders followed their passion to create history."

Freedom Riders is the Dogtown and Z Boys of freeride mountain biking. The film artistically captures the evolution of freeriding from stealth trail building to forging a working relationship with the U.S. Forest Service to establish the first-ever downhill specific trail in Forest Service history in the Teton Pass area of Wyoming. The film showcases the freeriding subculture in North America from where it was to where it is now by highlighting how the sport has obtained its legitimacy in the public eye.

Freedom Riders provides a compelling story of a group of individuals who never let their passion die while looking at the rich culture and history behind the sport. From old-school footage of Tom Richey and Gary Fisher to the time, hours and sweat it takes to build a trail to hucking and ripping down singletrack, Freedom Riders isn’t your typical bike porn film, it tells a story – an important one for any bike lover. The film will also feature an original soundtrack by Grammy Award nominee Luke Reynolds of Astral Kids.

I rode those trails this past summer and I can't wait to see em grow and improve in the future. I also hope that the Forest Service in OR and WA sees the need for similar trail systems as there just aren't enough trails out there for our style of riding.

They are coming around here in Central Oregon. Check out cofreeriders.com. We have worked very closely with the forest service in the planning and development of our progressive trails. There are a lot of guidelines to follow but we are doing what we can to push the envelope. There will be more dh specific trails being constructed this year also. The important thing is that we as mountain bikers make our voices heard and write our congressmen and other officials and start influencing forest service policy, make the system work for us! Big props to the film makers and builders, I love trail building videos, they are like a behind the scenes for what our lives as trail buiders are really like. It looks like I need to get to Wyoming for a ride.

8 years ago, here in Rio de Janeiro we start to have problems with the Tijuca National Park managers about riding bikes for more than 20 years on National Park trails. They say we are accused to cause environment impact just for riding XC and DH bikes on trails. Here in Rio, we had never cut threes, made wooden jumps or any big environment impact than just trail riding. For sure we know very well the impact that bike tires cause to the trails and we know that we have to work to maintain the trail with no erosion and with a good drainage. Park managers installed a plate on the end of the main MTB trail of Rio de Janeiro called Vista Chinesa that says:
-MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL CLOSED FOR ENVIROMENT RECUPARATION.
Since they installed that plate, they never came and did something to recover the trail. Many bikers went to talk to the managers to show that MTB can bring tourism and jobs to the region of the trails and even we bikers could make a group of riders that could work every month to maintain the trails we use.
I had some contact with IMBA and they had shown some interest to come to Brazil to help all the Mountain Bike community to recover all the trails lost for closures and to maintain the existing trails. The only problem was that someone from Brazil had to pay the dispenses of the trip and here in Brazil we are not very unite.
So if you want to help us to re-open our MTB trails maintain our trails working good and if you want to ride amazing trails, do some Freeride movies, come to Brazil!!!
Look for Brazilian races and photos at pedal.com.br and dhbrasil.com.br that you will be surprised.
Please IMBA HELP Brazilian riders!!!

Brazilian is famous for his Carnaval, samba, soccer and forest jungle. In Mountain Biking we start to have some international events, in the 90`s we had some important XC races and in 2005 and 2006 we had World Cup DH and also XC races. We had Markolf Berchtold racing in legendary Global Racing DH Team at the top ten ranking and now racing for Banshee with more than 6 Panamerican Championship in his pocket. We also have now some really good Urban Downhill Races that had the presence of Cedric Gracia, Melissa Bull and many others top international riders.
This year is the first year of the Brazilian Mountain Biking Confederation that can change the hands of the MTB races in Brazil that are badly done by the Brazilian Bicycling Confederation that only wants’ to know about promoting Road Bike events.
So we have many different regional Downhill and XC races with lots of stages and races, some races are in the hot, warm countryside with lots of dust and rocks, some other races are in wet, humid trails with tons of mud and slippery roots…

This is sweet, I'm going to have to make a trip up there this summer sometime. They should look into getting some racing started. There's not much legit racing going on here in Wyoming.

Wow, what a great film concept. Having this story captured on film professionally could open doors all over the states for better access for downhillers. AWESOME. BIG THANKS TO THE CREATORS OF THE TRAILS AND THE FILM!
