Gemini Team -Roland and Jose Baides
The team: Roland and Jose Baides

Two brothers, passionate about cycling, with years of experience designing and manufacturing some of the most incredible bikes on the market, we have decided to use all the knowledge we have acquired over the years to create something new, without any restrictions - wanting to create the most advanced components focused on competition with the highest possible quality.

POLLUX, KÄSTOR and PRÖPUS are the stars of GEMINI. Our stars, represent more than 3 years of development to achieve the best performance. We have optimized the size and characteristics of each and every one of the carbon fiber layers to make the most of their qualities, together with our unibody design that helps reduce weight.

UNIBODY DESIGN

The strength of the GEMINI handlebars is not comparable with that of a conventional handlebar. Thanks to the unibody design, to its optimized layup and to the manufacturing process it offers an unbeatable weight vs strength ratio.

NO ASSEMBLY STRESSES

By not having to attach the handlebar to a stem, less stress is generated which avoids the accumulation of forces and deformations that can cause the carbon fiber layers to delaminate.
STRESS DISTRIBUTION

The continuity of the material between the stem and the handlebar spreads stress distribution over a larger area, increasing the final strength.

Unibody design

GMN SECTION

The circular cross-sections perform equally in all directions which is why we have developed the GMN section with two basic purposes: decreasing hand fatigue arising from vibrations and forces, and increasing reactivity and control when turning.

GMN section

VERTICAL ABSORPTION

By reducing the vertical section we have achieved an increased absorption of vertical impacts and vibrations which translates to less hand fatigue and being able to maintain higher speeds.
TURNING REACTIONS

By enlarging the horizontal section we have managed to increase the rigidity of the handlebar against any force exerted by the rider when turning which translates into more direct and reactive steering controls.

INTEGRATION

Our integrated cap design hides the nuts, leaving only a hole through which to insert the tool to tighten the headset.

HANDCRAFTED IN BARCELONA

What cannot be seen is as important as what can be seen. The manufacturing process is key to obtain the best performance and for this we have had to develop our own processes, designing all the necessary tools for manufacturing.

In order to manufacture high-quality products, we have developed a specific bladder for every handlebar size, which allows us to adapt it perfectly to the handlebar shape and obtain a perfect fiber layup, avoiding the formation of wrinkles and resin pools that weaken the bars. We use a “sandwich” structure, using twill as the external and internal layers to increase its resistance to delamination from impacts, and a unidirectional carbon fiber core that ensures getting the best mechanical and structural properties from the fiber.

There are many types of carbon fiber, but If you want the best performance you must use the best. That’s why we use the best intermediate module carbon fiber that currently exists on the market, Mitsubishi MR70.

Manufacturing in Barcelona allows us to control the entire process selecting all the materials we use to guarantee the highest quality and reducing the environmental impact generated.

Each handlebar have ben developed with the most advanced sofwares and contrasted with real testing on the ground and on the lab.
Cut with a plotter allows to optimize the lay-up creating complex layout profiles to build different laminated structures and make the most of the material.

Starting our sandwich lamination process using twill prepreg carbon fiber Mitsubishi Pyrofil MR70 on the first and on the last layer to have better impact resistance and avoid delamination and UD on between them that ensures getting the best mechanical and structural properties of the fiber
Cutted part of a handlebar to check the internal quality and carbon fiber compactation

HOURS AND HOURS OF TESTING

Our components are not light simply because we have decided to remove material. The whole development has been validated by strict resistance tests, simulating in the laboratory, very aggressive use. We have surpassed the most demanding tests in the industry, well above the requirements of the ISO standard. We have also spent a large number of hours field testing over the last 3 years, where the characteristics of each handlebar has been developed.

Hours hours and more hours of testing during all the development to find the ligher and most resistant possible handlebars

The GEMINI handlebars are the result of years of development in the tireless search for perfection and maximum performance to create competition-level products where every detail is taken care of. Maybe that’s why they do not look like anything you’ve seen before.

I cancelled my order because I like my bars rolled slightly forward. I decided instead to light my 650 euros on fire because it was more entertaining.

I decided instead to buy a new bike/take a vacation. LoL $760 handlebar... I'll take a Whistler pass please and thank you.

Idk I think this is perfect for me. I love the look and I bet all my friends would be jealous. Now just have to sell my frame to get it.

Jose Baides: Hey bro how can we get some of that sweet aftermarket cash?
Roland Baides: What if we fuse 2 parts unnecessarily while at the same time reducing the utility of both parts?
Jose: Not even a dentist would go for that.
Roland: What if we charge more that the cost of 5 sets of said parts?
Jose: Just when I think you couldn't get any stupider you go and say something like this . . . . . . and totally redeem yourself.

@adidasss: Agree, but I'll say this - at least these guys are innovating and putting their heart and soul into something. Many bike companies have simply just jacked their prices for fairly repetitious carbon frames. 12 grand for the latest carbon XC ripper? I think these guys are fanatics and are working on perfection and art. Not sure if it will sell, because the market is pretty tapped, but at least they are going for something, besides your wallet. I salute them, to some degree. The play right now in industry is value, however. Hello YT and Commencal etc. The consumer needs a break. Sell sex at a decent price - give maximum value with some bling, and focus on making margins through volume.

@ibishreddin: We have both those, shock and pedals, $200 grips are the next stop.

@ibishreddin: we already have a $1200 shock. EXT Storia and PUSH Eleven-six!!

Full ti and carbon aftermarket everythin just dripping with bling from companies I have never heard of. They never even touch dirt but many are in riding clubs and ride everyday along the river. If you got the cash, all the best to you.
  • 4 1
if a $20k bike seems crazy to you...I suggest you stick to mountain bikes. Several road bikes have left this shop upwards of $15k. No suspension, dropper, disc brakes, etc. I know road racing is huge comparatively but I'm sure there will be 20k MTB builds in the near future
  • 14 0
@vid1998: I only ride grips made from Elephant and rhino horn combined with actual stone from stone henge and pyramid rock from Giza.

They are $1200 a side. So I got four pairs.

They have to cover the stellar production value of the video, that can't be cheap. Plus judging by the number of computer screens, it took an army of uber-cool hipster-designers in wide-brim hats to engineer this, and they don't work for free hats and T-shirts.

Bump the price closer to $1000.00 and allow us to configure the width, rise, up-sweep and back-sweep and now you got a product you can "almost" convince folks to buy... Heck even a possible materials thickness options for different size riders and disciplines.

The product is beautiful and looks well thought out and constructed but with each bike being different the bar stem combo may not work right with each bike so this becomes an Item somewhat only useable for one bike if you are super particular of your cockpit setup for each bike.

Boutique for sure... but maybe a little too Boutique?
  • 1 0
and you have to cut your steerer all the way down because you can't have spacers above the stem. If gemini fixed all of this it might be almost as good as my thomson stem with a renthal fatbar.
  • 13 0
You know whats actually pretty good value? Spanish (and Porteguese) wine. €650 will buy you enough Spanish wine to be sloshed for years.

Or a handlebar that you'll replace after a year because it's a handle bar, and they're wear items. JFC.

"Manufacturing in Barcelona allows us to control the entire process selecting all the materials we use to guarantee the highest quality and reducing the environmental impact generated."

None of this matters if people can't afford your product. The bars look great and I can see improvements over what is on the market now but when you came to that price point you should have stopped and said lets look at reducing cost before entering an already over priced market. I would rather by ebay carbon and brake myself off then spend almost $760 USD on a bar stem combo. This really disappoints me because I like the product just not the price.
  • 8 0
I really struggle to see how this can be viable. Bar width, rise, upsweep, backsweep and stem length are things that people are quite particular about, and can make a huge difference in how a bike handles. Which means that this will only appeal to a pretty small demographic. Then consider that someone also has to be willing to drop what is comparatively a massive pile of cash and I think they will seriously struggle to sell any.
  • 11 3
so an ENVE DH rim is £1100 GBP. The weight isn't exactly super light but you still see a reasonable amount of them on the trails. there are plenty of aluminium options that are as light or lighter and more than strong enough for DH use at around 70 GBP a rim. That's a little over 15 times more expensive to buy an ENVE rim than say a Stan's flow EX or similar.

a decent bar and stem combo from a top manufacturer you are looking at around £150 which means you can buy 3.8 barn and stem set ups for the price of the Gemini version, so in reality, it isn't that expensive compared to what you see on the trail quite regularly in the form of other components. I won't be buying one personally but when it is using reasonably new and expensive technologies it's almost an affordable price. Bearing in mind that R and D costs will be spread over fewer units compared to the thousands of Fatbar carbons that Renthal will shift every year.

i'd be more upset that an x0 DH rear mech will set you back £235 quid when a Zee variant can be had for less than £50 but you still see plenty of x) stuff on the trails.

people WIll buy these bars because people like to have stuff like that. and fair play to them!
  • 1 4
Finally someone that thinks as I do!
  • 1 4
someone should compare to the only other option available (syncross/scott) before moaning... for me the amount of wheight they save, and it is not make overseas, and the units they are capable of producing, is reasonable this price.
  • 2 0
 @aidy

Thank you for aiding me and clearing that up. Now that I know that it's not that expensive, I'll take one of each.

Hey didn't Syncros do this already? Suddenly their $330 asking price doesn't seem insanely out of touch, just regular out of touch.
  • 1 0
@PauRexs: Sorry, but no matter how you focus this... 650€ IS NOT a reasonable price for a handlebar stem combo!
  • 1 0
@enjuto: i never said it was. i said that it wasn't as unrealistic as many other components that people happily buy.
  • 1 0
@aidy: Sorry Aidy, I meant to reply to PauRexs, who said, and I quote: "for me the amount of wheight they save, and it is not make overseas, and the units they are capable of producing, is reasonable this price."
  • 1 0
@enjuto: So maybe is this here the key, If you make it overseas is half cheaper and maybe not the same quality. So now you choose if to pay + security or if pay less -security +labor conditions...
  • 7 0
 Something something dentist...
A pretty solution to a non existent problem with the disadvantage of loosing any adjustability. You gotta be real desperate to burn that money to buy one of these.
Even if you got the disposable income to burn on one of these, one good crash and the thing is done. I´d rather replace a 100$ bar 7 times and ride a new one each season than get 7 seasons of riding out of one product with a history of crashes.
But maybe this whole mtb thing has taken off to the spheres of golf and polo where i just can´t comprehend things anymore.
  • 17 0
Dentist? We've moved beyond Dentist, into Hedge Fund Manager territory. There aren't enough teeth in the world. You need to be managing a pretty lucrative Ponzi scheme to afford some of the "New High End" stuff these days.
  • 9 3
Does that come from Cero too? Seems like by the office shot... Anyway true piece of art and loving there is actually some added value and engineering, not just a normal bar with a marketing BS. For me it would be the first carbon bar I would really put on my bike. Also that weight! Im sold... I mean, I get one once my kidney is sold.
  • 11 0
Right, because making a handlebar and stem is some kind of dark art. Up there with shitting golden eggs. There aren't any other companies making awesome stems and bars, for like the last 10 years. This is the equivalent of putting a gold wrap on your Lambo.
  • 3 0
Yes, this is from Cero. Gemini is a brand under them, like Unno
  • 9 0
These would look great on my Ibis Ripmo, hanging on the wall of my bowling ally in my mega yacht docked in Montinegro.

Don't forget to order extra to replace those old-fashioned gold encrusted yokes in your private jets. These black gold babies would look so much cooler. #blackisthenewblack #DentistNawImAnOilSheik
  • 4 0
No matter how "unique" your processes and product are, when a small team of people create a luxury product like this I'm assuming their margin for a nearly $800 piece of carbon fiber is insane. If they sell 50 they will probably end up ahead.

Which is all good, there's a place for these products in any market (like those $40,000 skis with 14 karat gold bindings), but PLEASE market this as the completely unnecessary luxury item that it is instead of belittling the industry with this "performance" hooey. It makes us hate our own sport.
  • 3 0
I have been MTBing for decades and I feel sad for the marketingization of this sport. it seems like everyday the sport is more about the equipment than about what you do with it. This guys know it is the opposite, and so do you There is a market for this kind of things, I know, but it is not where real riders are
  • 1 0
 @diegodom

but how do you even have fun in the woods without knowing that your bar/stem combo is integrated, lightweight, and as expensive as custom dental work? you must have no fun riding at all.

hey, check out Vital's review of a sub $2500 bike (Spectral) that they said was awesome.

"bro watch out! you're gonna scuff my new carbon bar/stem combo. this sh*t was expensive."
  • 3 1
I was thinking about how you could make a zero stem length carbon combo like this to enable a super long front centre last week. And they've beaten me to it... I don't understand the hate for it. Yes it's expensive. So's a Ferrari, or a pair of Enves. I don't hate them for existing. Nobody is forcing you to buy the expensive car or the expensive wheels. At least these stembars actually have a usp.
  • 5 0
I like the idea but please can I have a slightly heavier less sexy version for around £200?
  • 9 0
@tremeer023: Syncros makes some that are about half the price of these... They have different styles for enduro (called the Hixon iC Rise) and trail (Hixon iC SL) that are standard equipment on the Scott Genius... There's also a new XC version (Fraser iC SL) coming out next month that Nino Schurter is now using.
  • 2 0
@billreilly: thanks for the info. I vaguely remember those coming out actually. One piece bar and stem will be my next set-up.
  • 2 0
Just checked the website, and syncros haven't drunk the short stem wide bars kool-aid just yet. Shortest is 40mm and I think only 780mm width. Missing the opportunity to do a more elegant version of the gen 1 mondraker forward geometry mega short stem.
  • 1 0
 @mountainsofsussex:

I'm okay w/ 40mm but only 780mm? So many people on 800mm bars now. I think they'd sell well and can't imagine it's much work for Syncros to get an 800 version in the works. Not everyone's gonna pay over $300 for one but drop it to msrp $299 and it'll sell.
  • 2 0
Sad thing is, this goes to prove to the community they are trying to sell to that they are completely out of touch with it. That photo of them alone is the opposite of what even the big brands try and show. Come on guys, spend your parents money in a more responsible way.
  • 5 0
I appreciate the simplification. But this price is out of reach!
  • 5 0
Can't use my OneUp EDC? No thanks! Ha!
  • 1 0
This great. There needs to be someone who makes the product exactly as they think it should be. If you want to make something stronger, you can use a stronger material, more material or just eliminate the problem (stress concentrations). And that's what they did. Same with tweaking vertical and horizontal stiffness of the bars. Sure it is a lot of money and it comes at the expense of not being modular or adjustable (you can probably not even have spacers on top of that Pröpus and Kästor bars so you need to cut your forks exactly to size) so this is definitely not a product for me. But for a rider who knows exactly what he/she wants, cares for the quality and doesn't mind the money, it definitely is as good as it gets. Again it is not for me but the construction makes sense to me and this is actually one of the rare applications in bicycle construction where they put carbon to good use.

Just curious what resin they use. I thought Unno uses a thermoplastic, don't they?
  • 5 4
For all those who constantly moan about high ticket items, allow me to explain why they are only going to increase, despite your dislike.
It's also related to why so many LBS are struggling and closing at the moment.
Low-mid ticket items are being hammered by customer direct and chain-shop brands right now, so when shop's response is to go cheaper and cheaper, there's only going to be 1 winner, and unfortunately 1 loser.
The smart LBS will figure out that the better way to direct business is to aim at the other end - the upper end of the price spectrum. It's more scary, but it's actually (relatively) safer. You'll never see a £600 handle bar in Halfords.
It's also a true that in economic tough times, the rich people are far less affected
  • 5 4
If you look at the road side of things, you can buy a €500 handlebar along with a €300 stem, and plenty of people do. And there's already xc combos that add up to €600. So just because this is pushing the prices within a particular niche market, doesn't mean that it won't sell.
No, it might not be rational, and yes, you might feel that it's better to spend your money elsewhere. But people got different priorities and different size wallets.

Personally I think it's a great looking product, so cool to see it hit the market. Expensive or not.
  • 4 0
I think one big difference is that in road riding the limit of what you can do is based on your fitness which is hard to improve dramatically. For that reason it's tempting to buy things that will help just a little. With mtb I don't need better parts to just send it. That plus anyone who enjoys wearing lycra and pedaling around on perfectly flat road is clearly not mentally well adjusted.

how has no one said anything on the syncros hixon. is a carbon bar/stem and is less than half the price...
  • 3 0
Because that is still ridiculous too. Big Grin
  • 5 0
 Now, they’ve rised the bar...
  • 1 0
 I think I won't have a bar in this.
  • 1 0
Hah, is it a coincidence, my completely fine Reverse Base bars can be replaced twelve times for 650 EUR! Pity there's only ten versions of it Frown and so, why not make integrated upper crown for Boxxer, integrated shifters and super fancy integrated bicycle basket!
  • 3 0
For the record, I like the idea, and I think it's cool that they're making their own thing. Props to them. I just like poking fun at prices... Razz
  • 4 0
There you have it folks. Skinny jeans and computer screens. I seriously hope the world goes Mad Max. It needs it.
  • 2 0
Wtf. Does one need to cut the steer tube to use the enduro stem or just ride it all the way on top. Sorry. Not cutting my steer tube to fit this over priced nightmare that has no true back sweep because lack of adjusting.
  • 1 0
They look to be really well made and I think there's plenty of room in the market for this, but I would predict that it'll always be a niche product due to the cost+lack of adjustability. Without being able to trial fit these to MY bike I'm not sure that these numbers would work for me, and the price leaves me unwilling to spend the money to find out.
  • 1 0
If you think about it - a set of ENVE bars and a STEM are down at the local bike shop for $230 and $320 CDN for a total of $550 CDN. Not sure what the conversion to EUROS is but this not completely ridiculous for basically handmade small volume custom bars. As others have said - it is too expensive for them. My pinch with the whole idea is that 1) my EDC tool would now go in the pump and 2) where's my 9 degree bend without up sweep?

They are super sleek and nice - just not for me or my bank account.
  • 1 0
Well here is another thing that I will never buy because of its wacky price. I'll stick to my normal stem and bar combo that cost 5x less. That saying I'm 100% sure this is going to sell because some people are just lucky to the point where price doesn't matter

 " Gemini Announces €650 1-Piece Bar & Stem "...good for them, I guess. ????
  • 7 1
Putting that number in the headline is a bit cheeky, Pinkbike....
  • 7 0
PHeller Products Announces a $1000 Seatpost Clamp! You should buy it because it's made in a super hip exposed beam old factory in Louisana that used to make whiskey and we've got years of engineering experience and bike criticism. This seatpost clamp is sure to make your seatpost feel 6.856% more awesome while improving average speeds by .00000023%.

I think everyone should go to YouTube and watch the Bill Hicks sketch on marketing. "Kill yourselves..."
  • 4 0
 I’ll take the Syncros please

Can someone tell them Spain abonned the spanish pesetas about 18 years ago, everybody's using euro's these days.
  • 5 1
worst thing to happen to mountain biking
  • 2 0
At least someone doing a one-piece has realised that the market is at the sub-35mm end.
The last few I've seen only start at 35/40mm (Scott, Syncros)
  • 1 0
Agreed, I think the true benefit people are missing is that they sell offsets down to 10mm. Something you cant do with a traditional bar/stem. Whether or not 10mm is needed I'm not sure. It would be interesting to try it out if it wasnt so expensive.
  • 1 0
maybeee....the creator loves the the creations sooo much...so he has pretended selling the products, but actually hoping nobody would buy it.....
  • 4 2
Shut up and take my money!! Wait, I am broke. Who's going to fund me so I can give them money?? Someone help!
  • 3 1
Price aside, is anyone, even XC riders still running 640mm bars? Or should it read 740mm
  • 4 3
Stupid millenials with trying to reinvent the wheel. I could destroy this handlebar with 3 arguments in a heartbeat but I'll just read the comments for lols instead.
  • 2 0
Cool thing is that i can do everything in that video without their product... even rock the urban hipster look.
  • 1 0
 Sweet looking bar/stem.
I will wait to see how many people bitch about it before I put $165 Euros down.

Wait WTF $650 Euros!??

  • 2 0
Someone call ENVE and tell them there prices are a steal.
  • 1 0
 Totally true
  • 1 0
Do they have any pro riders using it yet? It would be good to know how well it stands up to real racing.
  • 1 0
Pretty sweet, love the idea and understand the massive benefits......don't understand the price tag?
  • 1 0
What massive benefits? Enlighten us please.
  • 1 0
Reads the headline, scrolls to the comment section so fast and gets a blister.
  • 1 1
To bad it has only 7 degrees of backsweep, i like 8 to 9 degrees way more. Otherwise i never would have considered a 650.- bar either. But i'm sure it will sell.
  • 1 0
YES! because all mountain bikers are either bankers lawyers or Doctors.
  • 2 2
Passionate company...passionate at ripping people off,, what a joke,- if people spend that much on bars then they are fools,
  • 2 1
 Cue the Dr./dentist comments.

It's perfect to go with your new Unno (also made in Spain?) so you can have overpriced carbon everything!
  • 1 0
Hmmm intriguing, yet I’m not sure how practical this is.
  • 2 1
Is this the new hot trend, like the endure fanny pack?
  • 1 0
I was going to make a comment, but I really don't know what to say :-D
  • 4 0
 The price left you speechless
  • 1 0
@zede: I think it would be like buying a 33 Heineken for 50 euros.
  • 9 0
@migkab: If we assume a .33 Heineken is €1 you could buy a renthal bar and stem combo (€200), a port du soleil season pass (€275) and 175 beers with the same money.
  • 2 0
 @tom666: I like your thinking!
  • 1 0
@tom666: exactly! These bars are just bad money management.
  • 1 0
This Bar n Stem combo cost more than your mommas rent!

  • 2 0

  • 1 0
Looks cool, price is a goddamn joke.

 Bgnarcore
  • 2 2
I like how they show a screen shot of FEA....and contour plots LOL!!!!!
  • 3 2
What make you laugh? There is a real FEA job behind that most of overpriced brands (ENVE, Santa Cruz, etc etc) are not able to do. All done in BCN.

Otherwise I do not understand why all these "hater" comments, almost all brands manufacture in China, Taiwan, etc. Where employees have not the best job conditions, a bad salary and then, companies take advantage of the first world to sell it at other prices.

Why are you all as critic as you are? They are passionate for bike world and have bet for do something at an excellence level. Ergonomy and product development for many years have take them to this.

Here are my reasons, I do not understand why you all are like this, I also cannot afford it, but you cannot depreciate their job.
  • 1 1
@avg: mabye you should ask to work for them. Who knows , could mabye get a free pair of skinny jeans upon hire.
  • 1 0
