Stoked he's not on an E-Bike lol

Focus has enough of these. That said, I haven't seen Olly Wilkins on one either and I don't think the brand is about pushing it on anyone. That probably doesn't mean that he can't have one if he wants one of course.
  • - 1
Hmmm. The BB area is suspiciously obscured by darkness in those pics...
  • + 8
@vinay: Olly is riding the e-bike every now and then (source: his Instagram-account)
  • + 14
@BenPea: perhaps because its painted black.....
  • + 6
 @Floyd123: ooooh they're clever alright....
Don't get triggered, Gully fans. We'll be sending a ship to rescue you from the sense of humour void asap.
  • + 2
@nekislav: those are the only two examples of this bike that will see that kind of action.
  • + 3
@BenPea: becouse they are freeee animal, freeeee animal, na na na nana...
  • + 2
 @BenPea: True that! Big Grin
  • + 8
@ryanmill: I predict disappointment in the near future for you.
  • + 3
 @vinay: check Olly`s Instagram...he rides e-bikes quite often
  • + 2
@sobearbikewrench: Interesting. No one can possibly hate Olly though some people have been caught talking bad stuff about people who ride e-bikes. Interested how this thing works out. With all the intention PB had about reviewing "affordable" bikes, I still haven't seen a review of the Focus Vice. Stills seems like the most sensible of the lot (and Olly did a nice video on one). Yeah yeah I know I'm an Olly Wilkins fanboi.
  • + 4
@vinay: Olly Wilkins does have a Focus e-bike. I've seen him and brendog riding e-bikes at my local trails. I don't think it's an issue though.

I actually like Focus as a brand. Check out the Focus Vice 2018. New for £1399 it's full sus with Rockshox suspension, maxxis minions front and rear, dropper post, short stem, wide bar, 1x shimano drivetrain, xt brakes.

It looks like a killer bike. Probably one of the best value bikes out there at the moment.
  • + 1
@tom666: Looks ok. Add a few hundred for a new fork though (130 Recon). One of those bikes that you upgrade as it falls apart/the rider gets better. Hope that doesn't include the frame.
  • + 1
 @BenPea: Understandably for £1399 it doesn't come with a £700 fork like a fox 34 or a Pike.

But if you're tight on budget it looks like a really good bike because you can shred it out the box (nothing NEEDS changing) and its super upgradable because it has boost spacing, through axles etc. In time you could get a new fork and new wheels and it would be looking super sick.

For the South of England it would be so sweet.
  • + 2
@vinay: Odub has done several videos with the Jam2...
  • + 1
@tom666: actually you're right, I misunderstood the specs and thought it was a 160 frame. It's a 120 - so not out of kilter with the 45 stroke shock. Geo not bad too. Sweet brakes... Looks great for it's intended purpose.
  • + 1
@BenPea: This frame doesn't seem more likely to fall apart than a basic hardtail. The pivot seems well thought out and obviously that's the difference between a full susser and a hardtail. Yeah as I said I still don't get how PB said they'd do "affordable" bike reviews and complete ignore this one. They used to have three models (different specs but all at least with a dropper seatpost) so I hope they won't eventually reduce the number to less than one. Not that I need one but it is a good bike to point at in case a friend is interested starting to ride.
  • + 1
@vinay: yep, that may be a review i'd actually read, to see where the weak links are, if any. Strengthwise you're probably correct, it's acceptable to add weight to a value frame to keep it in one piece, so why wouldn't they have...
  • + 1
I have the 2017 Vice, it's a solid little bike, stiff, confident and a rocket on smoother trails and jump lines. Suspension is pretty progressive but I added two more volume spacers because I ride like a goon, most people won't need to. I planned to replace the Sektor, but I've been blown away by that cheap little fork, sure it can fall behind and start packing down in really rough stuff, but for medium trails it's both supportive and plush, same with the Deluxe R, it's no DHX2, but my last trailbikes CTD is now a painful memory of soggyness compared to this. The wheels and brakes got swapped almost straight away, but current model is better for those. I came off a 140mm bike and still have a Downhill bike, and the little Vice feels like it can keep up as long as the rocks and breaking bumps aren't too much. It sends too. I feel like a better fork wouldn't pay off, the few times it would really help, you'd probably still be fighting with only 130mm on the front, though Olly put a 140 on his.

What DH bike is he gonna ride ? Focus doesn't have any in their lineup
  • + 7
 my first thought too
  • + 4
@marko369: wonder if something is coming?
  • + 6
A V10 with Focus written on it! After all SC and Focus are owned by the same company.
  • + 2
 @clarky78: lolololololololololol
  • + 16
The German manufacturers love the old freeriders. Schley - Rotwild and now YT. Gully - Focus
  • + 1
Isn't Bearclaw old enough yet Wink ?
  • + 14
Also Brett tippie riding for YT.
  • + 10
 @vinay: canyon not german?
  • + 2
Actually Rotwild and Schley just parted ways. Rotwild wants to focus on ebikes in the future. So they both agreed thats not the way to go for the other party and parted ways in a good manner (a Schley and the owner of Rotwild are friends for 15+ years i believe)
  • + 2
From Schley Facebook it seems he ´s not with Rotwild anymore. Looks like he is riding on YT now ;-)

Quote from his facebook

« rotwild bikes has been a very large part of my life for the past 11 years. The team has listened to my ideas and dreams and helped them become realities.
Together, we saw color come to the brand, curves to the already sexy shapes, some pretty big air and more recently electrified things.
Peter Schlitt taught me a lot about business and the bike business more specifically. I developed a lasting friendship with him and many others in the company.
[...] You will all be missed. Thank you »

@Chridel: I don't question that. Instead I was surprised to not see him listed in the original post here.
  • + 2
Hahaha hopefully Gully is going to get PAID like Schley
  • + 14
i'll never forget the day he almost ran me over on boogie nights LOL good times on the shore
  • + 5
Woo, is that color paint available for mere humans ?
  • + 25
Will these color paint also be available for good dogs? I believe I may be a candidate for this as I am a good dog.

Not a bad looking bike....indeed time they do some proper marketing.
  • + 1
@MTB-Colada: but a crappy spec for 4000 euro!
  • + 1
@funkzander: Yup, I was actually referring to the built in this article.
  • + 1
@MTB-Colada: seems all the marketing budget was being spent on CX. The timing of this coincides with Focus pulling the plug on being the bike sponsor for Aspire Racing Team (ie Jeremy Powers & Co), so that would have freed up some bucks for their north american marketing peeps to spend on Gully (and others?). Perhaps trail/enduro bikes are deemed a bigger growth opportunity than CX for 2018....something I find interesting as a total industry outsider/observer..

Anyone else notice that the frame is almost identical in shape and shock placement to the Cannondale Jekyll? Is there an association between the two companies I should be enlightened with?
  • + 2
Looks like they're a bit different. Look at the swing-arm on the jekyll, its bent, and the jekyll also has space for a water bottle underneath it, whereas the focus doesn't. Similar shock placement? Yes, but I don't think the frames are quite the same.
  • + 2
Not Cannondale but both Focus and Santa Cruz are owned by the same company, Pon Holdings
  • + 4
Switched to Fox suspension too, it seems.
  • + 1
Appears that he's also dropped the Answer components. From his POV it looks like a spank stem.
  • + 1
 Shimano brakes too.
  • + 3
Congrats!! But do you miss your Slayer Yet?
  • + 3
Is there anyone left on board at Manitou?
  • + 1
Doesn't seem like it! I mean whole hayes group feels lackluster lately, manitou suspension seems like a small exception but in general...
  • + 1
From the looks of his POV video he's off answer too (hayes group). Looks like a spank stem and shimano brakes.
  • + 2
what about the big mess Focus left with the XC team
  • + 5
First ditching the xc riders for ebike sponsoring and now hire a freerider. I would be surprised if Ebikes are not part of his contract.
  • + 2
@Chridel: A sponsored rider has to “move product”. If he doesn’t and is not an exceptionally well known marketable person he/she will get axed. Especially when the core market of the sponsor changes. I don’t get the whining pros who blame others (Ebikes) for sponsorship loss without realizing that they probably haven’t done enough to be interesting. Just doing races is not enough except when your name is Nino Schurter.
  • + 0
@Chridel: Gully is also gering older....so an Ebike is welkom i think
  • + 2
Will they make skis for you Geoff?
  • + 1
Going to be odd not seeing Gully on a Rocky. Local guy on a local brand. Congrats on the new ride
  • + 1
Welcome to German Engineered Performance Bikes!!!
  • + 1
Gonna be hard to picture him on anything but a Rocky Mountain bike!!!
  • + 1
Still spewing he's left @RockyMountainBicycles lol
