It's all about attitude
bigquotesI wanted to design a bike which reflects my passion for flying. Most of the design is reminiscent of my favourite airplane, the Piper Cub. The blueprints are from a 1940's Cub and the lightning bolt is taken from the original cub design. The highlights of the bike for me are the attitude indicator instrument on the top tube, a Royal Canadian Air Force badge, and the maple leaf with wings. Stacy at Painthouse killed the design and paint.Reece Wallace

The very first badass custom I have ever seen by Giant. What they do at world champs every year is a bad joke. Good for Reece

 I was thinking the same.

 Second or 3rd that
  • 9 3
I believe he painted it himself though haha

World Champs they seem to send out some sticker kits to their riders... embarrassing for a factory team...

@J-Gordon it says Painthouse Customs did this one.

@gramboh: in other words, giant had nothing to do with it!
  • 4 0
totally agree , no effort at all at worlds

I don’t want to bag them out too much. I was thinking about what they did towards the bike and it’s pretty unbelievable. They sent people to Africa to buy bauxite. They had it shipped to China and smelted into aluminium. At some point in China or Taiwan (which is not a part of China) they formed the metal into tubes. While that was going on they had someone design a bike. Formed tubes and forged parts were assembled by welders and other workers. Then they shipped the frame to Canada and delivered it to the rider at no cost to himself. When one looks at it like that, paint is just the final touch. The last footstep of a long, long journey. So while their effort at world championships is suspect, I guess it just doesn’t register as important to the parent company. They’re never going to sell that design. They still get into the same articles as all the other companies who made more effort with paint. They probably made half of the bikes in said articles.

@jaame: luckily he's rocking a carbon one. phew.
  • 2 0
@SimonD: oh in that case, lazy bastards! No effort on their part!
  • 1 0
 @jaame: I bet you are fun at a party...hahaha
  • 1 1
 @OzarkBike: I don’t go to parties anymore!
No I was just thinking about the process. We love to look at the fancy paintwork at worlds and such and Giant never makes any effort. It’s kind of a joke isn’t it.
Those custom paint jobs are usually commissioned by the teams though I believe. With giant being an actual manufacturer in Taiwan, they probably don’t even know any custom paint artists. I’m willing to cut them some slack, since they work hard year round to make awesome bikes for themselves and a lot of other teams. That made me feel bad about ridiculing them.

I'm wondering what the psychological effect of a brightly painted bike vs a camo bike would have on the judges. In sports where "artistic flair" is a judging criteria you often see bright/elaborate costumes to accentuate the movements. Would a flashier bike give a better impression based on the higher visibility compared to the stealth look?
  • 2 0
Depends on from where they're looking. Against a blue sky, a blue bike may not necessarily be more visible than one with a dirt camo paintjob. Or maybe it doesn't even matter that much because against a bright sunny sky, you're always looking at the shadow side of the bike.

The attitude indicator on the top tube is unreal!
  • 14 1
You are correct, it’s actually just painted on.

Slow & stiff. Sounds like my wife.
  • 7 0
Soooooo sick. Rad bike for a rad guy.
  • 10 3
Shouldn't it read : 'All about altitude' ?
  • 4 1
 whoosh
  • 6 0
Both. But it shows an attitude indicator, not an altitude indicator. In early Rampage days it may have been mostly altitude, but nowadays they do rotations too.
  • 3 0
its a double entendre. Airplanes have "attitude indicators" or artificial horizons that help the pilot know his orientation in relation to the earths horizon. Flying in low visibility conditions can be very disorienting and they rely on these devices to make sure they're on track.

Reece, just don't become a passenger and remember: If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. Stick and rudder skills! Wink

Maxxis might want to consider changing their naming nomenclature to release a special edition Rampage tire...The DH AF

I'm not a Giant fan, in general, but that bike is amazing!!!
  • 4 0
no way is there a comma after "fan" lol
  • 3 2
Clean bike. Wonder what it would have looked like if they went gold with the fork with blue graphics and flip flopped the hub color too. Blue hub in the front. Looking forward to seeing how he runs out there.

Great looking bike, killer photos Liam! Cant wait to see it in action. Go get it Reece!

Notice the frame bumper for fork missing after riding it ? I bough 4 sets, broke when installed on the bike. It`s the Achile`s tendon of the Glory, otherwise a perfect bike. I ended up just like him, tape it Smile )
  • 2 0
Good luck Reece! Your dad first told me you got in and he was very excited. Best of luck Friday!
  • 2 1
Dear Giant, once the race is over, you can give it to me so I add it to my collection and it will be my ninth Giant. I pay for import and shipping!
  • 13 11
Cool bike for sure, but this frame is looking so dated now
  • 29 1
Yeah but if it ain't broke....
  • 7 0
 If its real dope...

 @gunners1:
Yeah for sure. Just surprising how little has changed over almost 10 years. Just little geometry tweaks here and there
  • 7 0
@Jaystey: aesthetically yeah. But hop on an 09 and it’ll feel like a totally different rig (as it should, duh)

@gunners1: Hahaha that's the thing, all I hear about is cracked and broken Glory's!
  • 3 0
@stokalation: really?! Had one and it was a tank.

 @nskerb:
Oh for sure haha I just made a simple comment on how they’ve managed to keep a very similar silhouette for nearly a decade. Idk if many other bike brands can say the same.
  • 1 0
@Jaystey: I hear ya! Other than trek/and SC (mostly the v10) Id say you got a valid point lol.
  • 1 0
Classic, simples, clean lines.... Dated? Really?
  • 3 0
yeah like dirt bikes, VPP/maestro/floating link designs are the best designs to date, they won't change much anymore, its a mature technology now.
  • 3 1
Cant wait to see it in the Buy/Sell ads in a week or two..
  • 6 2
Naw, it will be auctioned for a good cause...maybe to help the Lunn family
  • 2 0
Right on! Custom bike riding rampage... Thats rad!
  • 3 1
 Daamn!
  • 2 1
Why is the MAXXIS logo not aligned with the valve stem?!
  • 5 1
The Maxxis is aligned with the text on the rim, which I think trumps valve stem.
  • 5 4
Who lines logos up with the valve? First rule of tyre fitting is.. line up logos with logos!
  • 1 0
@tobiusmaximum: exactly. And if no logos then it's the stem
  • 3 0
Lining the tire logos with the stem is an old xc racing trick. Fast way to find your valve when you flat and every second counts.
  • 2 1
One of the nicest custom bikes ever!
  • 3 2
 I've gotta tell. It's GLORYOUS!
  • 1 0
Cool design. I like it Smile
  • 3 2
 Sexy AF paint job
  • 2 1
 Time for a new Glory
  • 2 1
 Painthouse Customs ftw!
  • 1 1
DVO has no Onyx DC 29er because Suntour only makes 27er Rux. Same chassis.
  • 2 2
 Sick AF! tup
  • 1 1
 that looks awesome!
  • 2 5
 Psh. Me dont like it.
