The Glencoe Mountain Resort has reopened after a fire ravaged the base station restaurant on Christmas Day morning.
The fire which is said to have broken out at 4:40 am on Christmas Day took six fire crews 11 hours to extinguish with the emergency responders using nearby water to put out the fire that took a hold of the timber building. At this time the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Following the fire the resort posted to social media to let people know of the damage and that it luckily had not harmed anyone or damaged any of the equipment that is needed to get people to the top of the mountain. The fire was contained in the restaurant part of the resort which means the other buildings stayed untouched by the fire.
 | Fire update - at 2am last night the Base Station Building at the resort caught fire and despite the very best efforts of 6 fire crews was almost completely destroyed.
This means the centre will be completely closed to the public tomorrow 26th Dec while we make the structure of the building safe. All ski lessons for tomorrow are cancelled and accommodation bookings for the 26th Dec are also cancelled as we currently have no power to the lodges (we will be working over the next few days to remedy this). All our comms are also currently down so apologies if we are difficult to get hold of over the next few days.— Glencoe Mountain Resort |
On the 27th of December, they opened up the resort to people looking to enjoy the winter snow, although they had to warn guest to bring their own food while they look for a temporary solution.
There are still a few months until the resort opens to mountain bikes for the summer and with big events such as the Macavalanche in May and the SDA downhill race in July they will be looking to be back on their feet ready for the summer.
