Race Recap: Golden - MEC BC Enduro Series 2017

Getting to 'Higher Ground'

When you want to get to 'Higher Ground' and escape the smoke, there's no better place to do it than in Golden, B.C., at round two of the MEC B.C. Enduro Series (B.C.E.S.), presented by Intense Cycles, this stop was coincidentally hosted by Higher Ground Mountain sports and Kicking Horse Bike Park, with support from the Golden Cycling Association.

On a side note, this race was dedicated to Jeremy Harris and his family. Jeremy was a lover of bikes and an absolute shredder, who dedicated his time to everything bikes, and he is deeply missed. Our thoughts go to his family.

This weekend was truly picturesque, with many riders making a trip to escape the smokey skies and real life priorities, it really made the race feel like a Sunday ride. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort kicked things up a notch by providing access for the riders to relax their legs and head to the top of the mountain! Riding T4 is a truly unique experience and we're so grateful for the hard work of the volunteers and community that keep amazing gems like this rolling!

Golden is a unique town, they boast some of the best singletrack in all of B.C., with a true mountain culture! Very few towns have that perfect mix of bike park, scenic alpine, blissful singletrack and trails that make Chris Kovarik think twice, luckily, you can ride all of this in Golden, in just about one day, thanks to all the trails being located centrally, and a surplus of great eateries!



Trail Club and Community:

The Golden Cycling Club is a small, humble group, however, their experience, passion, and unwavering attention to detail, is truly showcased in the Moonraker trail system, I would have to say this is one of the best designed and flowing trail areas I've ever ridden, and it's only one-third of the trail areas in Golden. What is even more unique, is that this trail-network is fully accessed straight from town! This community rivals Whistler for a number of high-class events that it hosts, from DH, Trans, 24hr, XC, Running to Enduro, Golden is a town that knows events, and I really wants to thank everyone in the community for welcoming us!

A special note to David from 'Higher Ground' and Emile/Ryan from KHMR, these guys really help me pull this event off. They have such a positive outlook on everything. At this stop, we donated just shy of $2,000 for some trail love!
