Cristo Rey is the biggest monument of
Mendoza. It's height is 28 meters and its weight is almost 30 tons. He watches over the entry to Valle De Uco, where an amazing view shows the beauty of the Valley, the Tupungato volcano (21.500 ft) and the Cordon del Plata.
This trail is located at the feet of the Cristo, at 4.660 ft, the door of Valle de Uco where the wines of Mendoza are made, 70 km away from Mendoza City.
The trail also has the privilege of having a beautiful view all around in every season of the year even with 40 °C in summer or on a freezing cold snowy winter day.
Gonzalo Castello (19) has been riding downhill for 2 years now, but, he used to ride bmx (street and dirt) for 5 years. It was great for him being able to move his abilities and style from bmx to dh.
He has his own exhaust workshop and also builds pickups for off road and mining.
6 months after the first footage, 4 days filming, 2 days taking pics and lots of hours of editing, myself and filmmaker
Fernando Sotelo finished this project.
The big Christo looking at the valley
It's great to work with Gonza, I asked him to do a no hander, and he did a suicide no hander! He clapped his hands behind his back. I told him to do a tuck no hander instead that would resemble the statue of christ and bannnngg, he nailed it!!!
This day was perfect, some clouds, and sun beams with a mild temperature for Mendoza of 22°C.
Fer running with the steady cam, working his magic from behind.
Typical of Mendoza, semi-arid valley, clouds, sun and of course BIG MOUNTAINS.
After Gonza roosted by the camera was covered in dust..
The clouds reflecting in the crystals of the lense and the dust on the outside of the lense looks like a galaxy of stars.
Film maker Fernando "Cabro" Sotelo also comes from BMX, where he met Gonza many years ago, they are good friends and they understand each other well and work great together.
End of the day, loading the bike onto the Land Cruiser, ready to head home.

We will be back for more!
