Having only ridden Moab when in Utah, Gooseberry Mesa was a good thing to throw into the mix. Having never ridden there we had no idea what we going to be riding. We heard it was technical with some nice flowy sections and that's all we knew going into the trip. Along with that I had to create a video for a project at school. So, I figured this would be the best time to shoot that, but also capture the experience to share with others. My buddy David had been out in this area digging for Rampage in years past but had never done any real riding in this zone. With a late start out of Evergreen, Colorado we drove until 12 pm and stopped for the night in Beaver, Utah. We arrived at Gooseberry the next day, set up camp, and left for the first ride. The technicality and flow to the trails is much different than what we ride here in Colorado. Regardless, it was an awesome trip.

I've been there twice, trails are fun, views are amazing, and there is campground spot right in the middle of it so you can relax and enjoy the the night sky in the middle of nowhere. Over the Edge bike shop in Hurricane is great for advise and maps.

Gooseberry is a cool place. Not many places for flow but many interesting spots. How often do you get to ride next to a 1000' cliff? No elevation gain from on end to the other but lots of little ups and downs. Lady pushing her bike said "I'm a lot more Intermediate than I thought" Wink

When you can't find flow, hook up with a local. Its like a night and day difference shredding with those guys. Also when you're in the area, check out Guac trail. Its strange riding a trail that's only marked by cairns. There's some insanely tech/fun sections that weren't shown in this edit so expect much much more when you head there.

We actually did a lot of riding there and it was really fun. Quite technical. We only rode with the camera for one evening, so we didn't get to showcase some of the other riding there.

Great vid, and I can tell that I'm a desert rat when the first thing I noticed about your riding was "where's this guy's camelbak, you don't ride Goose without water?!" Smile Loved the manuals, natural doubles, and quick corners!

Oh yeah I figured so because when you're there, you just wanna shred and not film haha.

Gooseberry trails are amazing but blacks would be blues at best in Squamish or Whistler. Utah is awesome and I would highly recommend the the Whole Enchilada, Bartlett Wash and Amasa Back in Moab, Thunder Mountain in Red Canyon, and Gooseberry Mesa in Hurricane if you have a couple of weeks to ride.

^ You forgot Portal trail in Moab Wink You can't compare them with an arbitrary system like black, blue, etc. as they're in completely different settings with different styles of trails. Honestly I think its a useless gesture to compare Whistler to so. Utah as they're so unique.

Fair enough Scott, Portal was pretty amazing too, especially the second half after the cliff section. I had a great time riding in Utah and I hope to get down there for another trip soon.

Yeah the cliff edge stuff was more nerve racking than cool or fun trail but what you mention is one of the better DH sections I've ever ridden. Funny thing is how you perceive Utah is how I see Whistler... I cannot wait to get back up there to explore and ride the whole comfortably numb trail.

A weekend in hurricane (Hurri-kin) will build your skills quite a lot. Videos like this prove the flow is in the rider, not the trail.

I love seeing videos of people riding in places I've been before, instead of watching them and wanting to go there. You can watch them and think to yourself " Hey, I rode that line too" or "I think I donated blood on that rock right there".
Anyway, cool video and nice location.

I grew up riding Gooseberry Mesa. Havent set foot on those trails in over 10 years and I am dying to get back to my roots. Ive spent many painful hours riding my old Specialized Big Hit on those trails. My Enduro would love it there!! Cant wait to get back home!!

All things considered....the great riding, multiple trail options, easy six hour access from SoCal, tons of lodging choices make this my favorite destination area to ride. We'll be back in two weeks!!

I loved Gooseberry but this guy makes it look way too easy! Of course everything is just that much more fun on a Stumpy Evo. Goose is fun but it ain’t no joke. Especially if you go when it’s hot as we did. I wish we’d camped as well.

It's been 17 years since I rode gooseberry mesa but seeing this video reminded me that it's my favourite place in America.

Parents took me here when I was about 11, wish I could have appreciated it as much as I would now. That whole area rips!

35% of this video was wasted before he got onto his bike... and about 15% of the actual video was trail riding... cool... cool...
