PRESS RELEASE: KZN Gravity SeriesThe KZN Gravity MTB Commission is delighted to announce a partnership with Greg Minnaar (GM) Cycles for 2018, which will see the Pietermaritzburg-based bicycle shop become the official Title Sponsor for the KZN Gravity Series.
The 2018 Greg Minnaar Cycles Gravity Series includes 3 Provincial Cup Series rounds, and a stand-alone KZN Championships event. Furthermore, the partnership includes sponsorship of the third round of the National Cup Series Downhill to be held at Cascades Bike park on the 28th and 29th April in conjunction with the 2nd round of the Regional series.
The partnership sees a return for GM Cycles to the foray of gravity cycling in KZN after a years absence. GM Cycles have however been at the forefront of gravity racing in KZN for almost a decade, having been series sponsors between 2006-2013 as the Greg Minnaar / Mongoose Series, and again in 2016 as Greg Minnaar Cycles. The partnership with the Pietermaritzburg-based boutique bike store provides further confirmation of the growing interest in gravity cycling disciplines in South Africa, a market previously dominated by Marathon.

GMC’s Operation Manager, Travis Browning said: "We are excited to partner with KZN Gravity MTB for 2018 and look forward to a series of races that both spectators and riders can enjoy. Our goal is to get as many people riding their bikes as much as possible while sharing in the passion and comradery that cycling creates."
GM Cycles first opened its doors in the late 1970's and traded under the name of Two Wheel Inn. Jackie and Jeff Minnaar took ownership of the shop on 15 June 1992 and changed the name to Greg Minnaar Racing Cycle Store in 2005 to commemorate their son, Greg Minnaar's, World Cup series Championship achievement for the second time in his career that year. Over the years, Jackie and Jeff have maintained a high level of service to the strong and tight-knit cycling community of Pietermaritzburg. In 2013, the store changed its name to Greg Minnaar Cycles and opened a second branch in Townbush Road on the outskirts of the city. In 2017, Greg Minnaar Cycles closed their shop in the heart of Pietermaritzburg, the familiar "Boom Street" store, and moved across to make the "Townbush Store" their main home.
