Mongoose Pro, Greg Watts is moving out of Santa Cruz to Reno. But before he leaves he has to get a few last sessions in. Watch as he hits some of his favorite spots on his Boot'r, Teocali and Fireball.
It's sad seeing many of the "kids" I've watched grow up in SC feel like they have to leave to make a life. I've considered Reno myself. It's cheap, near Tahoe and dry most of the year. However, I think it's even more difficult to find a good job in Reno than the Bay Area. Greg can do his job anywhere there is good dirt and an airport I assume. Best of luck Greg you are a champion buddy!
... just moved from Reno this past summer. The job market there is horrible. Even though it's dry a lot .. I actually found myself riding less than I did when living in the rather wet area Western North Carolina. Between the very common high sustained winds and the 25-30 mph cross winds it makes a day that looks like a good day to ride ... to be a bit of a task. Then there's nearby forest fires which make the air so full of smoke it's hard to get in a full ride. When it does rain ... the kitty litter soil, which is hard enough to find traction ... even worse. HOWEVER ... the views in the Reno and Tahoe area are breathtaking ... and make the good riding days SO AWESOME!
The struggle is real. All the trails in the first part of this movie are illegal. Still super fun though. It is super expensive though. I may be leaving soon myself. Who knows an inexpressive place to live with good riding?
If you have issues seeing homeless people, just move to Scotts Valley... As for our "illegal" trails, they are better than most legal trails in California.
Funny thing is, SCPD is trying to push all the homeless out to scotts valley. As a Paramedic in Santa Cruz county I see it first hand, and the trails suck balls.....No one should ever want to come out here.
@fullspeed1 1st point) You remember that controversy where the people in scotts valley felt uncomfortable seeing people less fortunate than them and complained. Remember how scotts valley cops were buying homeless people bus tickets to santa cruz? I'm pretty sure it was in The Sentinel. 2nd point) Where the flying f*ck are you riding? What do you mean "Santa Cruz trails suck"? Yeah maybe the main UC trails like sweetness, airborne, chupacabra, magic carpet, etc get washed out/bumpy in the summer but Santa Cruz has some of the best trails in california. Anyway people that complain about riding in SC probably don't even know about the creek zones and other lowkey spots. Last point) For gods sakes find or make a friend with some mountain property, build a trail, and f*cking freeride!
Reno is not a bad place to be, close to Tahoe/Truckee riding ,Northstar bike park to local Mt Peavine in reno. Moving from nor cal I can't complain about my riding options here.
No eye protection on the trails? Seems pretty risky considering that my sunglasses and goggle lenses only last a few months before they are too scraped to see.

The reason people are saying the trails suck is to keep people away. No one who actually rides thinks there bad trails, don't spoil it haha.
Love it here though
To see a young Greg Watts just starting out, he has a small part in Thor Wixom's "JIB2" as a young 12 yr old dirt jumper still ripping it.
