riding down the highway from los gatos to SC...and I was thinking the whole time..."why am I in this stupid rental car and not on a bike...?"

Los Gatos to Santa Cruz, the most fun commute!

My thoughts are finally Greg Watts picked up by a better sponsor. Then I.

It's sad seeing many of the "kids" I've watched grow up in SC feel like they have to leave to make a life. I've considered Reno myself. It's cheap, near Tahoe and dry most of the year. However, I think it's even more difficult to find a good job in Reno than the Bay Area. Greg can do his job anywhere there is good dirt and an airport I assume. Best of luck Greg you are a champion buddy!

... just moved from Reno this past summer. The job market there is horrible. Even though it's dry a lot .. I actually found myself riding less than I did when living in the rather wet area Western North Carolina. Between the very common high sustained winds and the 25-30 mph cross winds it makes a day that looks like a good day to ride ... to be a bit of a task. Then there's nearby forest fires which make the air so full of smoke it's hard to get in a full ride. When it does rain ... the kitty litter soil, which is hard enough to find traction ... even worse. HOWEVER ... the views in the Reno and Tahoe area are breathtaking ... and make the good riding days SO AWESOME!

Santa Cruz sucks, too many homeless and its full of illegal trails. No work, no jobs and its way to expensive to live here.

The struggle is real. All the trails in the first part of this movie are illegal. Still super fun though. It is super expensive though. I may be leaving soon myself. Who knows an inexpressive place to live with good riding?

Hollister, cheap to live and your with in 45 minutes of driving you can SC or Fort Ord. Also there's some alright trails in hollister hills.
  • 2 1
Tahoe or Reno legal riding if that matters
  • 2 1
A lot of it was filmed at his old house in Santa Cruz

If you have issues seeing homeless people, just move to Scotts Valley...
As for our "illegal" trails, they are better than most legal trails in California.
  • 13 1
It's only illegal if you get caught.
  • 3 3
Funny thing is, SCPD is trying to push all the homeless out to scotts valley. As a Paramedic in Santa Cruz county I see it first hand, and the trails suck balls.....No one should ever want to come out here.

 @fullspeed1
1st point) You remember that controversy where the people in scotts valley felt uncomfortable seeing people less fortunate than them and complained. Remember how scotts valley cops were buying homeless people bus tickets to santa cruz? I'm pretty sure it was in The Sentinel.
2nd point) Where the flying f*ck are you riding? What do you mean "Santa Cruz trails suck"? Yeah maybe the main UC trails like sweetness, airborne, chupacabra, magic carpet, etc get washed out/bumpy in the summer but Santa Cruz has some of the best trails in california. Anyway people that complain about riding in SC probably don't even know about the creek zones and other lowkey spots.
Last point) For gods sakes find or make a friend with some mountain property, build a trail, and f*cking freeride!

 So angry.......

 @MaxDeutsch

The reason people are saying the trails suck is to keep people away. No one who actually rides thinks there bad trails, don't spoil it haha.

@JSmith123 not sure your definition of inexpensive is to live in the PNW but it must be different than mine.
Love it here though
  • 2 0
 Nailed it!
  • 2 0
@Padrone3 You pretty much nailed it.
  • 1 0
Not too far away. Try Orange County!
  • 5 2
Fuck yeah! Airborne and chupacabra! That trail bike's geo looks pretty shitty though.
  • 3 0
Fuck yeah! I was so psyched when I saw trails that I recognised
  • 1 0
@MaxDeutsch couldnt agree more on that trail bike geo, man I would hate to have to ride that mongoose bike

Reno is not a bad place to be, close to Tahoe/Truckee riding ,Northstar bike park to local Mt Peavine in reno. Moving from nor cal I can't complain about my riding options here.

Santa Cruz to Rino? Sounds like someone gave up on life.... LOL (sorry)
  • 9 2
Cam Zink and Paul Basaoitia are just a couple more riders from Reno who I guess gave up on life.
  • 1 3
Meh. Santa Cruz is kinda just okay. gets old after a while.
  • 4 1
...and I'll keep on waiting for the day ill move to SC...
  • 2 0
It's cheaper to live in Whistler. I moved from SC last year and am so glad I did.

Santa Cruz has a sewer pipe of pure evil running just under the surface. I lived there for six years. Post earthquake, the pipe began to swell.

 Pure gold.
  • 3 0
We'll keep a light on for ya.
  • 1 0
No eye protection on the trails? Seems pretty risky considering that my sunglasses and goggle lenses only last a few months before they are too scraped to see.
  • 2 0
Hells yeah! It was nice running into you up there while you were filming! Yalls trails are the shit!!
  • 1 0
 Fun fact.

To see a young Greg Watts just starting out, he has a small part in Thor Wixom's "JIB2" as a young 12 yr old dirt jumper still ripping it.

What about Colorado or Utah? good riding, but what's the job situation and cost of living like?
  • 1 0
Colorado is apparently a hot spot for STEM jobs, or at least that was what I read the other day.
  • 3 0
Shhhhh there is nothing to see in Colorado
  • 2 0
Don't worry about style. That guy needs to practice his barspins more.
  • 1 0
California sucks fucking balls! People here can suck it! Everything gets shut down.

I Thought Watts got picked up by Santa Cruz bikes…
