PRESS RELEASE: Proper Cleaner

70% of the world is covered in water, why ship it?

Guy Degreaser

bigquotesHow’s it going? I like to clean my bikes and vehicles, it’s important to look after them, give them a bit of thanks back and anyway it got me thinking, there has to be better way of making this cleaner gear. I use loads of it, and apart from anything it takes up a right load of space in the shed when it’s mixed in bottles! Now then, 70% of the planet is covered in water and there's a massive business in delivering it all over the world, that seems crackers! So, I had a yarn with a few folk about doing something soluble, add your own water whenever you need to.

We found a man, who knew a girl, who knew a fella, who found some folks up North, who could make what we needed and after months of testing, it's now in your bottle but with your own water! It uses less fuel to get it to you, the liquid is bio-degradable, it’s not tested on Nigel the dog or his mates and it won’t take up half your shed! It's Proper Cleaner and it's the future!
Guy Martin

General Cleaner:

The General Cleaner is the workhorse of the range. Designed for cleaning your push bike, week in week out. Just fill the bottle with your own water, drop in a complete capsule, give it 30 seconds & a shake and it’s reet.

The liquid is fully biodegradable, alkaline based & it’s not tested on Nigel the Dog or his mates. It’s safe to use on all surfaces, including carbon fibre & anodized parts, nor will it affect the performance of your disc brakes. You get 1.5 litres of cleaner, but because we’re not shipping you 1.5 litres liquid it has a smaller carbon footprint than other cleaners on the market & the technology behind it is trick!

Proper Degreaser

12 months on from the launch of our General Cleaner & 6 months later than planned, Proper Degreaser from Proper Cleaner by Guy Martin is here!

We know you're asking, "What took so long?” Well, making a degreaser in liquid form is reasonably straightforward & there are plenty of chemical companies out there who can make it for you. Send them a sample of one you like, tell them the colour & smell you want and you can have a product quite quickly.

However, it’s not so simple with our water soluble capsules. Not only does it have to clean correctly & not attack your finishes, it must mix evenly in the bottle, have the correct consistency to go through the machine and not dissolve the sachets. On top of that, we made it thicker, or more viscous, than the General Cleaner. This stops it running off the surface as quickly & onto the ground before it had a chance to do its job!

You mix Proper Degreaser in the same way at the General Cleaner. Wet what you want to clean. Spray it onto your chain, cassette, chainring or anything else you need degreased. Give it 3 - 4 min to work, a quick scrub with a brush or chain cleaning machine & rinse off with water. Simple as that!

Degreaser Bottle Pouch 2

The liquid is 100% biodegradable, vegan friendly and is produced under the Eco Label

Not tested on Nigel the Dog or his mates.

If using water soluble technology was easy everyone would be at it, but it isn’t. In fact, over 12 months on from launching our General Cleaner, we are still the only company making Push Bike & Motorcycle cleaner, who are not shipping needless amounts of plastic & water around the world!

I love how there isn't 1 comment from an American as they are still waiting for the clip with subtitles to be uploaded haha

I've always loved his interviews from IOM!

Same! Hero! That crash a couple years ago at Isle of man was so burly, glad to see him get off so easily.

@gollub01: If it's the one where he lost the gearbox going into the corner(no engine breaking) he was well shaken after.

@rideonjon: a box full of neutrals

@gollub01: the one in NI in 2016 (I think) was also mental- complete ragdoll into a field. I've read his books where he covers that as if it was nothing.
  • 3 0
@nickkk: when you read his book did you read it with his voice in your head?
  • 3 0
@nickkk: Yeah Ulster GP Nick, he said it wasn't too bad cos he was instantly knocked out.
I may read his books in his accent too

The best one was TT 2010 when he fireballed into a field at Ballascarey corner (5th gear right hander)

@heavyp: Dafuq he just say? Wow. Will listen again

@Shiny-side-up: we'll maybe not class it as the "best one"...
  • 1 0
@Shiny-side-up: The thing i can not get my head round is him talking about losing the front end at 170mph,and saying it's ok it's going to catch again!,Connor Cummings crash in the same race is unreal how he survived it

@ProperCleaner: Yes. Poor choice of words by me there.

Love it when he looks up the plane and I know he knows what type of plane it is, how it works and if he can be arsed to build a replica or not. Guy Martin for President of the world.

As an American, I hereby approve of Mr. Guy Martin and will ask my local bike shop if they have heard of him and if they would like to carry his Proper Degreaser!

I too only became aware of him through a video of him touring Orange Bikes and then learned through other videos that he was friendly with Peaty and Danny Mac. Then I learned he races the f*cking Isle of Man TT! Anyone to does that is by default a legend. But still I can only understand 50% of what he says whereas with Ratboy I understand about 55%. ????
  • 2 0
Don't worry, even many Brits can't understand him.

 @allmtnmatt
Check out the film when he raced Pike's Peak on a machine he built in his shed.

yup . i heard he died in the IOM TT race but that does not seem to have bothered him much. Good lad.

This stuff is genuinely brilliant . Only used his first general cleaner stuff but loved the concept enough to try it. The cleaner is excellent and works just fine all over the bike, seals, brakes etc wouldn't hesitate to recommend it over certain overhyped pink cleaners..
  • 12 0
 Thanks for the support! #ProperCleaner
  • 1 0
@ProperCleaner: can I use the "pink cleaner" spray bottle with proper cleaner (buy just the pouch)?
  • 3 0
@spinko: You could, however, it's designed for use with a 750ml bottle, not a 1 litre bottle. Just remember to only fill it 3/4 or the dilution will be weaker than we'd like. It looks much better with our branding! :-)
  • 3 0
 @ProperCleaner: Fair! Thanks!
  • 4 0
I notice that all the commenters so far are Brits. How well known is Guy Martin in North America for example?

I was going to try this until I was send a load of the “overhyped pink cleaner”, including in concentrated form for dilution into their bottles, earlier in the year. When I eventually get through that I will be giving these products a try.

I am a yank and first learned about Guy Martin several years ago when he visited the Orange Bikes factory and filmed his tour of the place. It is a great vid. Without that one video, I don't think I would have heard of him. For some calibration, I am into bikes, but not motorcycles.
  • 5 0
I love Guy, I originally learned about him through motorcycle racing. Not a ton of of my friends seem to know who he is.
  • 2 0
@shortsguy1: That video played a big part in me buying my Orange Four. It seems like Guy is riding a Hope HB160 these day.
  • 5 0
Guy Martin has to be my favorite character in motorcycle racing, period. I was probably a rare breed of kid that was watching the Isle of Mann TT before he was out of diapers. My father used to race motorcycles and I grew up racing MX. No one outside of my immediate family that I interact with daily even knows what the TT is...
  • 3 0
@Albe23: Along with all the other Irish road races, it is the pinnacle of bike racing in my opinion.
  • 7 0
Guy martin is a badass and I wanna try the stuff just because he is cool
  • 4 0
Have recently been watching his series 'Our Guy In.... he's gone to some places you wouldn't normally go - Chernobyl for instance - chats to the locals and quite often lends a helping hand if needed. Proper Top Bloke!
  • 3 0
I normally just use water or maybe a little Simple Green or Dove to clean my bikes. But this dude, I like. He might be the person I would most want to have a few pints with, along with Chuck Yeager and Gary Busey. I will buy whatever he is selling.
  • 5 0
Someone could've told him he could move the decimal point to the right if marketing to MTB.

Whether it's hats or cleaner, we aim to price our products to be accessible to as many people as possible.
  • 1 0
@ProperCleaner: Props to you for doing so!

Such a great person, always out doing things in the community as well, from working with the Hope Academy, to traveling the world. Guy is such a down to earth person. Great idea for a product as well, just imagine, shipping costs just went down!
  • 2 0
I thought it was funny how he says degrease like greazer, but then it occurred to be that I've been saying it wrong. I say it with a hard S, like greece but I can't think of another word that imposes a hard S unless it's double s
  • 2 0
not sure that last time i saw an owner or product produce demo their product for real. Guy Martin is real and authentic and all times. so i be that stuff works. Oh see he cleans his bike as much as i do but at least he got a Rorke /Reynolds frame and hope everything so it can handle the british weather. Are you gonna tell him about the bard neds or shall i......

  • 3 0

  • 9 0
@lister11 totally safe on brakes, thanks for the support. #ProperCleaner
  • 5 0
Nice work, will be buying this when my current stocks run out.
  • 1 0
 Proper job.
  • 1 0
Can i make a suggestion? Use a collapsible bottle, you know like the concertina ones, with a helical 'stack' tube. Or the bag type spray bottle. saves Even more space then and less shipping bulk if you want to sell it with the bottle.
  • 3 0
Fair comment, however, getting those with a neck the correct size to put the capsules in isn't easy. The idea is to keep the bottle after the first purchase and move to refills after that.
  • 4 0
 Morris Lubricants Shrewsbury. Proper overalls.

  • 5 0
