Hajfell Damage 2014

Some of you may know already, but there has been some major damage to Hafjell recently, caused by heavy rains and flooding. The bottom half of the World Cup track has been severely damaged, with up to 2 meter deep ditches in sections which used to be fairly smooth and high speed. It's going to take a fair bit of work to repair the WC track in time for the World Championships, and the track almost certainly won't be the same as in years past.

Hajfell Damage 2014

The bike park will be closed until this Friday 11/07/2014 and it's believed that everything below the mid-station will be closed for longer.

Hajfell Damage 2014

The workers in the Bike Park have today been focused on saving buildings and lifts, once this work is done, the trails can begin to be repaired. Luckily there's no significant rain forecast for the rest of the week.

Hope they don't deicide to shut down the bike park now, they were considering it at the end of last season, that would bum me out for sure

They have already spend a lot of time digging and repaired the top part of the bikepark after the flood, so i don't think you'll have to worry about the bikepark closing this season. Smile

they should embrace what mother nature has done and turn the world cup track into a completely different animal. rock gardens and technical lines everywhere.

Was going to post some crap about IMBA guidelines for building sustainable trails... but when the focus is on saving buildings and lifts, must have been biblical rain.

the Roller Coaster and Buldreløypa tracks (in the pics) are supposed to be smooth float tracks but they turned into rivers and looked like the hard, rock garden trails (like the "New School" track and "VM løypa")
Hafjell was only shut down for two days, thanks to all the volunteers Smile Most of the tracks are as good as new Smile Smile woho!

That gulley could make for an awesome track with a bit of dirt thrown on the rocks , would be good if they could divert future water from above keeping a section to be used in a trail.

In all fairness its opened up a great rock garden now. Could be a blessing is disguise for some serious tech challenges.

Can't really tell but it looks like some of that trail goes right down fall line, so yeah, was going to happen eventually. Either way, sad to see damage like that on any trail.
