Hair's Breadth - Enduro World Series, Round 4 - La Thuile

Jul 13, 2014
by Matt Wragg
1:11'38. That was the fastest time this weekend here in La Thuile. After that much racing, just four seconds separated the top three racers. For three riders, each with completely different riding styles and strengths to hold pace with each other that consistently over that much timed competition of racing is nothing short of unbelievable. If the race was one single descent they would have all arrived at the finish line within metres of each other. In fact, the entire top ten was separated by one minute ten. There is nothing else that should need to be said to describe how high the standard of the racing is on the Enduro World Series right now...

Despite some lingering clouds on the higher summits this morning today turned out to be rather pleasant compared to days past.

Tracy Moseley is nothing if not a smart racer. She knew the top of PS4 the first stage this morning was going to be cold so she used her granny gear and slowly cruised up timing her arrival to make sure she kept warm for her race run. She was more than 40 seconds faster than anyone else on the stage... She has been helping Lorraine Turong this season and imparted her wisdom to the young Swiss racer.

Tracey Moseley may have let the overall slip away yesterday but she made sure to charge hard today from the start and not let up the pace. Mosley now has four wins under her belt in the series.

Tracy has plenty of reason to smile this evening. ACC and Cecile Ravanel gave her a scare yesterday but she fought back to win her third straight race and take a commanding lead in the series.

It was head down on the line for Graves. He didn t look as tired at the line as many other riders and a win on stage 6 and retaining the series lead are an ok result but we d be his sights were set much higher than that.

It would have been interesting to have a heart rate monitor on Damien Oton as he waited for the riders after him to come down and posted their times. It must have been agony sitting there waiting to see if he best was enough...

We ve written about Francois Bally-Maitre s pace all season now and today he was close so close. On the final stage he put literally everything on the line to try and win collapsing in utter exhaustion as he crossed the finish line. This time it wasn t quite enough falling short by a miniscule three seconds.

After scaring the piss out of Jared Graves and running him absolutely to the wire last time out Oton did it today. This season his trajectory has been nothing short of meteoric and it s going to be interesting to see how he goes next time out know he has tasted victory.

Joe Barnes doesn t approach racing like any other racer but don t let his laidback ways fool you he s still a very serious racer when it comes to nut-cutting time. You could see today that he now believes he could win one of these and while third is a great result he sights are set on a couple of steps higher.

That smile didn t leave Tracys face all afternoon we re sure it probably still hasn t. For someone who has won as much as she has over her career it s great to see how much the racing still means to her.

Jared Graves finished fifth in the overall. He won stage six today but just couldn t make up enough time to take the win. Graves retains the series lead.

 Awesome
But is it me, or is this the 10th article currently on the frontpage on La Thuile?
What about the Megavalanche which 20th edition took place today at Alp d'Huez?

megavalanche ?we would not see anything byt mud mud mud mud on the photos, I guess !prop to every guys who went down with all the mud.

Not enough big names in the mega this year. It's a great race but I can see it becoming less popular for pro riders over the next few years. Squeezed between EWS and European Downhill it won't have the same appeal
  • + 1
Megavalanche could become more popular than F1 if organizers or some big media would put the real effords for a LIVE COVERAGE.
I think there wouldnĀ“t be any better format with more ingredients in a live action like Mega puts ALL in ONE...
What a pitty...

Because the Megavalanche held their race on the same weekend as the EWS. If they were on different weekends then we would try and cover Mega, but UCC deciding to hold their race on the same weekend is a very bad decision, in my opinion.

I love these photo updates. I follow the UCI WC DH more closely, but I think I like the EWS photo updates more.

 He looks hungrier.

Why do EWS keep screwing over other races, the Megavalanche this round and the UK Gravity Enduro series last round, both rounds in the same country at the same time with dates announced well before EWS (though ukge moved their round mega wasn't able to)

Is Chris Ball flexing his muscles to show the other series who's the boss?

The Mega is in France, La Thuile in Italy, but yes, they are pretty close in distance if not the same country. There's a full calender for racing theses days, look at it internationally and you canny really find a free weekend. Is a shame though.
