Update: Hans Rey Hit By Another Break In, More Bikes Stolen

Dec 3, 2018

Hans Rey has suffered another break in and has had another mountain bike and two moto trials bikes stolen over the weekend. This time a GT IT1 gearbox bike, a TRS 250 and a Sherco 290 bike were taken as burgulars targeted the same site.

Hans said, "Burglary part 2, the nightmare continues. I can’t tell you how gutted I am, the burglars came back the following night and stole my possible favorite bike, my GT Bicycles IT1 gearbox bike, as well as my brand new TRS Motorcycles Factory 250 Trials Moto and my old 2000 Sherco 290cc.

"I am 5000miles away, my stepson secured the site after the first burglary unfortunately he had no access to the keys of the locks to move the lot. We had made arrangements to block the entrance for today, but it was too late, they came back in a 4 hour window with a blow torch, cut through everything like knife through butter. Thank you all for the great outreach and concern from so many folks, I hope justice will be done."

There is a special place in hell for bike thieves. And I don't even think hell exists.
  • 97 7
Hell does indeed exist, and it's in the east midlands of England! I should know, I live there. Seriously, it's mostly flat as a f*ckin pancake, can't understand why Hans was here in the east midlands, England has much better areas for mtb riding. I was born here, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, it's also why I talk funny.

@stumpymidget I go to uni in Loughborough and can confirm - the East Midlands is trash for MTB. If you go a bit further North to Sheffield it's good, if you go West to Shropshire it's good. If you go South it gets better. It's just the East Midlands lol

sure we would hope for heaven but we aren’t sure hell exists. never mind those bikes will probably never been found again. if we were on bikeradar we would have said d-lock their nuts. like what kind of security are we supposed to have if we can’t even have decent window tint.

@tom666: The used to be a couple of bits when I was there (grad 2010) in Swithland woods, some dj's at behing the b gargae going out to the m1, shepshed and woodthorpe ish but yeah not much in L'boro.

@Dustjunky: it's true mate, there is a decent bit of elevation in northern Derbyshire. Some great riding there, but this only makes up a small portion of the east midlands. If you ever find yourself in Derbyshire and want to ride, try Cromford/Black Rock area or Shining Cliff Woods area. Both have relatively short dh runs but they're pretty rocky and rooty, good fun.
  • 15 1
@Dustjunky: At least the east midlands isn't as flat as Norfolk though, the lack of good riding spots in Norfolk may explain all the in-breeding! Just kidding anybody from Norfolk who is reading this. P.S. Well done on learning to read!

@pinguisgod: Shepshed is still very much going - but it's just dirt jumps and a few sets of berms. Good for skills practice and there's a few pretty sizeable hits but they're stand alone features and not trails for the most part. Look up Shepshed on Instagram if you're interested.

@stumpymidget: i thought the same thing, maybe he lives there for the gloriours weather England is known for.

@tom666: there’s a few trails in Grace Dieu woods in Thringstone literally a 10 minute pedal from Shepshed. Nothing crazy but it’s good for a little blast on the bike. There’s a few standalone hits lurking in there if you explore but it’s in dire need of some maintenance or at least it was when I last went there a year ago. That’s where I cut my teeth on an mtb though before moving away to Grantham where there’s even less to ride!

@stumpymidget: Hans' step-son here: He has a house over there in the east mids but spends most of his time at his other home here in California. Reason for east mids is because of family. We hope we can find these bikes with the help of the biking community. Cheers

FYI... I have all my stuff in my house locked up with crazy heavy duty locks (it's not bullet proof, but it slows things down a ton). I know what these dudes do. From my stupid and lost drug addict teenage days 25 years ago, I used to hang out with idiots, and all they did was steal stuff. They would see someone on the road with a nice bike and follow them home, scope out their house for a couple days to a week and figure out their living situation-- when they go to work, where everything's at, neighbors, etc.. The main guys house was full of stolen bikes. Last I heard of that guy was, he changed his life around and became an awesome individual. But needless to say, be mindful of your stuff and do what you need to do to make it as much of a pain in the a#@ for them to steal ur stuff. I'm bummed for Hans, it just sucks when they come onto your property and steal your stuff-- it's a real violating feeling.

Not to get into politics or anything on a bike site, but the U.K has completely lost its way. Crime has always existed , but this last few years has seen crime rise, police numbers fall. Joke of sentences for crime due to PC policies, it's getting grimmer all the time.

Our politicians are too busy arguing about Brexit
  • 19 4
And prisons just perpetuate the cycle, making petty thieves into career crminals. Convicts ought to be working, gaining skills, paying back their debt to society instead of the other way around.
  • 18 4
@BryceBorlick: Quite. But hanging by the neck for 5 minutes or so is a permanent cure for their errant ways.
  • 9 0
@Mattgc: nothing to do with Brexit. Issue started long before that. So austerity has cut our budget defecit, but the problems arising from funding cuts will require more cash to be put back in to sort out. For example, many experienced prison officers have left the service because they feared for the saftey of officers and prisoners after changes forced by spending cuts. Prisons in the headlines recently in crisis and being over run by drugs and criminallity. Murders in London getting a lot of press, Mayor or London suggests will take 5-10 years to sort out. That's basically a generation of kids now in a life of crime because the Met have not had the numbers of staff to work with the communities and families before this happens. This 5-10 years of teenagers will cause trouble for the next 20 years. Brexit is just the icing on the cake.

More to do with bicycle theft being seen as a low level crime. The majority of bicycle thefts are of BSO's in the £50-100 price range so have traditionally been classified the same as stealing a few things from a supermarket. It's only recently the thefts have been recognised for what they are: high value items that can be worth more than a second-hand car. My work puts me in contact with the local police regularly and they told me this when discussing a local bike shop break-in, the vast majority of police officers have no idea that a bike can be worth well north of £1k. Yes. budget cuts play their part but if they take £1k's worth of drugs off a dealer it's publicised as a great result, recover a bike worth more than that and it doesn't even register.

Hopefully Hans' bikes will be too hot to shift on and will be recovered, like what happened when Manon Carpenter's bikes were stolen. The fact they are not just regular expensive bikes is in their favour.
  • 24 21
Snowflakes are the issue along with our benefit system, we have 3rd/4th generation families who just think it is acceptable to stay at home without a job whilst being paid to do so. And when their benefit payment is not enough to cover the cost of things they want and see hard working people own they just go out and steal what they think they should be entitled to.

The point of no return has long gone.

@BryceBorlick: a bike shop chain I used to work for here in the UK now sends bikes that get traded in by customers to a nearby prison where they have a brand new workshop and they teach the inmates how to repair the bikes which are then donated to a charity. On paper it’s good because the inmates are learning a trade but imagine a guy who’s in there for stealing bikes then learning how to properly service them. He can walk out at the end of his sentence and then be able to steal more bikes, Fix them up and sell them on for even more money. He’ll he could even steal a half built bike and use parts off other half built bikes he’s stolen to finish it. Good luck tracing that back to its actual owner!

The real kick in the teeth was that the prison workshop was far better than the one we had to build the web order bikes.

@Livewire88: Crime began when the welfare state was invented, correct?
  • 11 7
@BenPea: No, crime has been around forever, the welfare state has contributed amongst other things to make it much worse IMO.

Don't get me wrong I would love to stay at home and not work (hell I could MTB every day), but I like to earn what I own and do not expect or deserve handouts.
  • 9 8
@Livewire88: yeah, when I spill a bucket of water, I blame the mop too. I thought the UK had more or less full employment right now.  It’s getting worse in California too. They politicians reduced the punishment for theft crimes. No surprise now that theft crimes have risen.
  • 1 0
@Braindrain: "So austerity has cut our budget defecit"

No it hasn't, educate yourself.
  • 6 0
@PtDiddy: the reason politicians reduce the punishment for "small" crimes in general is that the prisons are full, and they don't serve their purpose, rendering them useless, and expensive.

What is the point of sending someone to jail, if he gets out unchanged, or changed in the wrong side, and if you have to pay for this inefficiency ?

@Livewire88 Show me a place where there is no welfare, and low crime…

The central bank of central banks are the root cause of all these issues, the biggest crooks of all.
  • 2 0
@r-macattack so I have heard. The UK is on some next-level idiocy. More time in jail for un-PC comments online than theft or violence.
  • 3 0
@zorba73: shhhhhh people hate the truth!!!
  • 1 0
@zede: There's such a thing as reform - e.g. stop sending people to jail for victimless crime altogether, and make the punishment for thieves and other non-violent crimes, but where there is still a victim, be something like wage-garnishing for 10x the original amount. You can still be strict without sending people to prison, and you can still be strict and humane. Commiefornia is outrageous... that's why everyone is leaving (same with NY; you can google these stats), so they can move to sensible places.... and then presumably vote themselves into more idiocy, ruin that state, then jump ship again.... I digress
  • 2 0
@RollinFoSho: You got it. Pretty much everything can be traced back to that. Read "Creature from Jekyll Island" for a good synopsis on centralized banking in the US and where it came from.
  • 2 0
@RollinFoSho: The "Private" central bank of central banks are the root cause of all these issues, the biggest crooks of all. - Fixed it for ya

The rich get richer, the poor get the picture.....

Austerity, the private money debt system, the 2008 crisis where no one was held accountable and banking was given crap loads of money for poor reasons backstopped by the tax payer. Well, it ain't a pretty picture and it is driving head long into a social cataclysm. Usually happens when "leaders" serve the Private Financial Classes instead of the people in general.

The theft sucks. Hope he had some form of insurance on the collection to help deal with it.

When they catch the suckers who did it - don't send them down our way like you used to or more recently, with child murderers (that last line for the Brits of whom need to deal with "The City" before things will turn around there).
  • 1 2
@gnarterrorist: the banks needed propping up, because the "people" are constantly told to buy shit they can't afford to pay for in cash and which is ultimately financed by the banks. They also allow businesses to start up and invest, thus underpinning the economy of every nation. They more or less own everything and everyone, governments included. They've made themselves invaluable to the point of untouchability. So, what do you want to do?
  • 17 1
Crappy for Hans. There are few guarantees against theft. Ultimately, I accept that I my anti-theft measures mean some inconvenience to myself. I use an industrial square link chain with a level 10 padlock through the frames, with kryptos linking forks through the crown-arch hole, and an alarmed cable-lock threading the frames. On top of that is an alarm on the garage, and for much of the time, I have the Barkomatic 5000 on duty. It's a pain to unlock a bike for a ride, but a hella-pain for someone to steal them. I also leave at least one lesser-than bike unlocked, which offers at least a potential option if they are discouraged from the main prize.

@schulte1400: Got to love it eh buddy!!! Too bad you're on the wrong side of the state... lol
  • 2 0
@jefe: a deer cam or two or something of the sort can help when that is the case. Many a f*cker has been caught on camera and then it's only a matter of time until the authorities catch up.

I know thieves are opportunists, but it helps when the idea is present that most of the community employs either a mean dog or Smith and Wesson (or both)... then many thieves won't want to roll their dice. I've lived in a few spots where it's common knowledge that any sort of potential asshattery is met with a cranky dude holding a 12 gauge, and that knowledge alone seemed to help deter thieves. There are some popular bumper stickers from a bike shop around my neck of the woods that say "We still hang bike thieves in Wyoming." Funny stickers, but there is definitely a lower tolerance for theft than most other places I'm familiar with. Part of it is cultural.... I have heard that in Japan, there is (or was in the recent past) effectively no theft, because their culture simply doesn't tolerate it, in any way. But I digress...

@schulte1400 I feel ya. Plus, I bet most of your community watches each others backs and likely falls into the above category.
  • 8 0
Probably a planned burglary. A couple of possibles I am thinking- if the camper van has obvious stickers it'll stick out like a sore thumb. Great for sponsor advertising but not great for security. An organsed group may have scoped it driving around or spotted the van when out riding and followed it, they could do this if it wasn't stickered too, but will be a bit harder depending on the van. This is more likely than following you home while you are on the bike as it's harder to follow a bike in a car. So they know where you live, they've seen the flashy carbon thing you were riding, they can get an idea of security from the outside, I suspect they were after one bike and the others were a bonus. Probably thieves with a van and all the tools they might ever need.

As a an example, there were fb photos shared by Gawton recently as Steve Peat was visiting, there was a shot which showed vehicles in the car park. One vehicle was a van with a distinctive large sticker in the rear quarter (a surf sticker). Now, without even being there if I ever see that van again I will know it likely has bike/ bikes in the back. Criminals can be remarkably resourceful.

So, what I am saying is do not put any stickers on your vehicles! Unless your sponsored maybe...

I hope they get the scum that did it. Burglary and theft is a horrible thing to suffer.
  • 8 0
I never put bike related stickers on my car for this very reason, I live in a sum bag area so don't risk it, I even wait for breaks in foot traffic before loading my bike up as I don't want any of the local chavs seeing it. People were getting followed home from local trails and getting their property broken into a few years back too, was a real big problem for a while.
  • 2 0
At least around the Peak at the moment, and I assume Sheffield, there have been cases of people on bikes being tailed home and the fuckers coming round during the next fortnight or so. Wouldn't be overly surprised if this was the case.
  • 1 1
@bigburd: I feel your pain.. as soon as I pull on to my drive way I literally jump out of the car and remove bike from roof rack as quickly as possible and run it into my house.  Came around the corner at work after deliveries just as the bolt cutters cut through my lock. I yelled at the two guys and they started to take off then they realized I was by myself and three others yelled at them to hit me. I faced off against the one with the bolt cutters raised and the other tried to rip my back pack off me and slung me over the bike to the ground then they took off. I just kept yelling that it was my bike. It was just one of my decoy bikes. I had steel toes on and would have kicked the shit out of them had it been my real bike. Why no one makes a tracker for bikes I don't know. I tried getting a radio animal tracker but they only sell to scientists.

Now what you're actually saying is that he's like us therefore my comment: why talking about him and not the average guy getting their bikes stolen? Seriously I'm sorry for him, especially as there are certainly a few custom parts. I f*ck bike thieves, and I hope they get caught.  What I don’t get is how you have ended up living in the East Midlands as a professional mountain biker. It’s flat over crowded, all the trees have been cut down. Everything is privatised. The place is a multicultural wash of the wrong people from the infamous Muslim child sex groomers, to the gypsies who squat every bit of land available and then to the Middle Eastern and European gangs kiling everyone. There are too many people and not enough jobs yet alone paid jobs which in my opinion is leading to theft and other ways to hustle and make money. The police are too politically correct and understaffed to investigate bike thefts so I wish you all the best. England sucks.
  • 11 13

@JohanG: I agree with that part, but the point still stands about the East Midlands being crap.
  • 2 0
The Peak District is for the most part in the East Midlands, not quite all of it is bad. Rest of it is shit though.
  • 1 0
@Denning76: he isn’t in the Peak District though, he’s near Hinckley.
  • 10 3
@lewiscraik: I am being completely sarcastic.
  • 2 0
He doesn't live there. His second residence is there though. His permanent place is here in California but the East Mids is his European base
  • 6 0
It's interesting that he words it as "at least 8" were stolen. He can't remember if there were more?

Bike thieves suck. Hope they mistake nair for chamois creme.
  • 16 0
He’s living N+1 to the fullest if he can’t remember
  • 3 0
Never thought hans would live around the Midlands area, I would of imagined he would live near the alps or lake district.... I live close by, il keep an eye out and about, probably best to start checking all the shops like cashconverters and stolen goods shops like that... I know of a few scummy pricks that have robbed people and headed straight to these shit holes to get rid quickly..
  • 5 0
More than likely targeted by professional thieves, a lot of it about
Hans Rey lives in England????
  • 1 0
House in England and in California. England is his european base.
  • 2 0
 Shitty this has happened!
Trouble is it happens regularly all over the country. Organised gangs target places with multiple bikes to seize. Shops and trail centres are prime targets and both have been targeted round this area over the last few years. The police do their best but let's face it they're overwhelmed with other criminal activities to focus time and money on bikes. I don't think they realise that if a gang get hold of 8-10 bikes it can be worth 10s of thousands of pounds. I'm hoping these bikes will be very difficult to move on so chances are someone from the biking community spots them and reports to the police.
As someone who lives in this area I'm curious as to which part they were taken from?
  • 1 0
 Near Hinckley apparently.

Not sure why he lives there though…
  • 2 1
Not all bike thieves are organised or in gangs, lots of them are just opportunist scumbags who would steal anything given the chance. As for our police, that depends how the bike was stolen, if a property was broken into they just might investigate. If it was in a public place you can forget it, they gave me hard time just getting a crime reference number when my last bike was stolen (on camera outside the largest hospital in Europe) They told me they would not look at the footage from cctv as the perps would have their faces hidden and that my bike was probably where most stolen bikes in the uk end up, Liverpool. Oh and even high end bikes that we know the value of get sold or swapped for far less than what we might sell them for.
  • 1 0
@lewiscraik: apparently he's touring. Derby next month so Hinckley makes sense now. Guess he's getting familiar with the area.

@djm35 I wasn't implying that all bike thieves are gangs. I know to well that they're mostly skag heads looking to fund a habit. My point was for a number of bikes to be taken at one time it's more than likely a gang who know what they're going for. I also know that stolen bikes are sold for nowhere near their value and chances of finding them are slim regardless of how much action is taken by the police.
If we as a community keep eyes peeled and look on eBay/gumtree and the like one of us may spot one of these for sale.
  • 1 0
@Dav82: it was a while ago that he was posting about riding in Nuneaton. Like it the spring.
  • 3 2
@djm35: The Police are far to over stretched to have time to search for a bike thief, they spend the majority of their time dealing with people with mental health issues or drunken louts.

Even if they viewed the footage and recognised the thief it would be near impossible to prove in court.
  • 1 0
@djm35: Most stolen bikes end up in Liverpool? Was this the South Yorkshire police by any chance?
  • 1 0
@cains08: No, West Midlands. Just relaying what I was told, not having ago at people from that area.
  • 5 0
Be vigilant Hans...you will get them back...I spent the last 5 months searching the net...and it paid off..got my bike back!
  • 5 0
I guess it doesn't help that GMBN has been posting pics and videos of his garage before the break-in
  • 1 0
the problem is that there are lot of stolen bikes for sale, and there are stupid people how buy them, in our neighbor country, Lithuania you can get lot of bikes for sale where you can see that there is no ID nr on the bike, why people buy them. and police know them and nothing happens. when few wars ago lot of giant bikes where stolen in Lithuania you could buy them for 1/3 of the price Frown

it could be easy if person comes in shop for bike part, mechanic should look for bikes id, there is no nr than just call police, so person explains why there is no id nr of the bike!!
  • 8 7
I had my bike stolen from leiscter in the East Midlands. Feel for you dude. Laws need to be stricter in the uk and longer prison terms need to be served for those who need to steal and feed off people’s misery. Instead thieves roam around stealing at ease knowing if you report a theft the chances are the police will just give you a crime reference number and not actually investigate the incident in person. England is a wash out.

I’m So happy to be out on the west coast of Canada where people are polite, respectful and I can leave my bike on the back of my truck while I go into a shop without it being stolen.
  • 11 0
Don't know what part of Canada u live in
  • 4 0
Hmm not sure which part of the West Coast you are talking about, I've had about 3 bikes and several parts stolen in and around Vancouver. I even lock my bikes up inside my house these days. Found a syringe near my garden the other day and I live on the "nice" side of town. You can never be too careful. Also have a chain and u lock attached to my spare tire on my truck so I can run inside the liquor store after or before a ride. Cheers bro!
  • 6 0
@drumnbike: small town west coast, people don't even lock their doors around here
  • 5 0
Cops don't have the money or time and there's no space in the prisons. And catching them is dependent on luck. Not great odds...
  • 1 0
@kookseverywhere: We used to leave the the punk house unlocked in the 80's in East Van. Too bad those times are over.
  • 1 0
 @Pimminator: squamish
  • 1 1
@drumnbike: that sucks but I guess the city will always have those type of idiots going around.
Whistler is starting to get bad for bike theft too, people are cutting people’s bike locks in the village centre in the day time now.
  • 2 0
The problem is more of a Midlands and city problem. I live in Wales and I don't lock my bike up going into the shops. I just leave them in my garden unlocked and they've never been stolen. Whenever I've heard of a bike being stolen or even someone's house being robbed in the area it's been done by idiots from the Midlands. There seems to be a culture of crime there.
  • 1 0
@Hoob93: Exactly. It depends on where you are. I was in the Isle of Man once and people on expensive road bikes just left them totally unlocked when going into cafes etc. Even saw one leave his outside the Tesco without a second thought.
  • 5 0
 @William001: Seriously?

While overall there might be less total bikes stolen, the number of high-end bikes reported stolen in and around Squamish is off the charts!

Group forums are always reporting thefts (often with winter-sports gear as well) from homes and whichever group I ride with always park with our bikes in sight and locked for post-ride refuelling.

I'll not argue with most people being polite and respectful but it sounds like you've not had an unlocked bike stolen more through luck than anything.
  • 2 1
I'll be looking for you, Hans! And I live in Utah. Mustard colored radness. Lots of flats. Mud from Point Lenana on downtube. Zaskars already make me think of you, anyway.
You've given away so many bikes over the years that we should all return the favor. But, those things can't be replaced, I know.
I once had a fat bike stolen from my front yard. A year went by and the thief called me up to give it back! (part of his 12-step reform program). First generation Pugsley. Thing weighed 20 kg and I was pissed to get it back.
  • 5 0
Hans, time to wake up and smell the step son's coffee.
  • 2 0
 Woah...
  • 2 0
Lol I am his stepson and his other stepson (my brother) who lives in the UK is not a thief. Thanks for the laugh though
  • 2 0
Ask around, find a local hardman who knows the people, pay him handsomely to get them back. Your bikes will doubtless reappear... www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-46261480/hartlepool-the-town-where-police-don-t-come-out
  • 2 1
Hans, this is so awful. I think you should allow your fans to rotate camping out on your property with menacing dogs or something over there. You need some serious video camera security and a fence with menacing dogs. Did I mention menacing dogs? I hope you get all your stuff back and the perps are caught and sent to prison to lose their gastrointestinal virginity.
  • 2 1
Well, that REALLY sucks, and I hope they find the culprits and put them away.......but I can't help but wonder if the thieves have been watching youtube??

www.youtube.com/watch?v=RneDn_7XrFo

I literally stumbled across this vid last week, and while watching it, several things ran through my mind:

1) WOW, Hans has some really cool bikes stashed away!
2) WOW, Hans has some really rare bikes stashed away!
3) WOW, Hans just painted a target on his back by showing the WORLD what he has!

My first decent bike was a GT, and I watched Hans do his show here in Edmonton back in about '93 or '94, been a fan ever since....but people are less likely to steal things if they are unaware they exist.....

In the end, I hope the thieves leave the stuff some where and that Hans gets his stuff back.
  • 2 0
None of his recent YouTube videos have been filmed from the UK house in which the bikes were stolen. So in this instance, the thieves took a chance on breaking into the garage hoping to find something. The house is in the countryside, so not a lot of cars or people to help keep a lookout. All of the YT videos that included garage footage is from his permanent home where we live in Cali.
  • 2 0
Maybe this will end like "Lock Stock and two smoking barrels" ~ I'd love to see a guy like big Chris catch up to the thieves and provide the appropriate amount of karma for their misdeeds.
  • 1 0
No trackers on any of them, could have maybe had them ALL tracked, then your son could find them on his own, with his phone. With Police cut backs you'll be very lucky, I think I've seen 2 bonafide police men in the last 2 years, it's a bike thief' paradise. Trackers my friend, I have 1 in each of my seat tubes on my Ragley and Giant, guess what, never been nicked for long.
  • 7 2
 No way! That sucks.
  • 1 1
Haha. Came here to say exactly that. Total bummer. Hopefully the scumbags get caught and bikes are returned

im wondering why he didnt move his bikes... if they broke into an area and stole half, move the rest. dont just assume that they aint coming back cause the grabbed enough. they never grab enough.
  • 1 0
I noticed there are no locks or anchors in the space in which they are stored. Always anchor and lock your bikes with a heavy chain lock when they are stored and having security cameras would also be helpful.

Inside job. Look any new friends of family, friends of friends, and anyone who may have come to the house recently for any reason, as well as the friends of anyone who came to the house recently. All it takes is one ignorant person to excitedly tell their friends that they saw Hans Rey's house without knowing who their friends truly are.
  • 3 0
If you don't know who that person truly is it is an acquaintance not a friend. You will find out you have thousands and thousands of acquaintances through life but very few friends. A true friend would never come to jail to bail you out. They would be sitting next to you in that cell.
  • 6 1
I don't know why you're getting downvoted because you're spot on. How it usually goes is that a friend tells other people about the stuff and one of those other people commits the crime. It could even be your son telling his friends at school about his dad's badass tools, which happened to my neighbor. Friends can mean no harm but loose lips sink ships and all.

Here in Texas, if I catch someone stealing my bicycle from my house I can blast twenty rounds in them from my AR15 and the sheriff will give me a pat on the back for taking out the trash. I'll also be immune from civil suits. Civilization does have its perks. Sucks for you guys in Canada and the UK but I hear that's how you like it.

@reno-be: Here in the USA what Johan described would be considered murder and there's countless historical cases to prove it. Johan is just talking tough like a lot of people do who have never seen a bad day in their life. But the nice thing about the USA is when a criminal does get killed during a crime then his buddies can be charged with murder for being part of what led to his death. So, there's that.
  • 1 0
Some truth to that. In California, car robberies and petty theft has risen a lot. Because they reduced the penalty from felony to misdemeanor. I think the jails were getting too crowded. Police are short handed and can't investigate all the robberies.
