Harriet Harnden Out of Racing with an Arm Injury

Aug 21, 2022
by Ed Spratt
Harriet Harnden started off a bit slow in Saturday s Pro Stage but turned up the heat come Sunday.

Harriet Harnden has announced on social media that she will not be racing the EWS this weekend or World Champs next week.

Harriet has been struggling with an arm injury picked up during the EWS in Whistler. Despite managing to take the win at that race and the following round in Burke she was not able to finish a run on the Pro Stage during practice. Harriet says that she was in agony halfway down the stage and was worried about making the injury worse. The decision was then made to skip racing this weekend and World Champs next week, instead Harriet will be heading home to get the arm injury properly checked.

bigquotesThis was a really hard decision to make, which is why I know it’s the right decision…

I rode practice yesterday and although my arm was painful I was just happy to be having fun out on the trails and get through the day.

However, this morning we practiced Pro stage and it was a very different story. I got less than half way down the stage and I was in agony! Not only was it really painful to ride, every time I hit the slightest bump I was worried my arm would collapse and I’d injure myself even more. So at that point I made the sensible decision to sit this one out. I also will no longer be heading to Les Gets for World Champs. I will head straight home to get myself properly checked out and on the road to recovery Hopefully I’ll be back to full strength in time for the last two rounds of @world_enduro .

This certainly isn’t the post I was hoping to be writing, however I’ll be back and I’ll be up for the fight.
Harriet Harnden

We wish Harriet all the best with her recovery and hope she is back between the tape for the last two EWS races.

Shoot. Heal up quick. Stopping mid race has got to be one of the hardest decisions for someone at this level so you know it’s serious.

Time to go make some changes to my fantasy fantasy xc team for worlds.

@mrtoodles: Exactly, why didn’t she predict they her arm was going to get injured before rosters are locked?

Worlds so unfair.

I kidding, I wish Harriet a speedy recovery.

Better to rest up and recover than make it worse. She seems to have been around for years, yet is only 20, and still qualifies as an U23 in MTB & CX.

I've had that a couple of times, it's bloody painful. What might be even worse is that you think you're better go out and ride and you're in pain again Frown
