Kids are dumb... Give them enough time and money to do what they want, they can learn anything. Wake me up when a 60yo starts riding and learns to ride like this
I think we all had (or were) that crazy friend we rode with as kids who would throw himself off anything because back 15-20 years ago "hucking your meat" (and shore) was the style of riding. Dont really see that stuff nearly as much anymore. As riding has evolved, so has the style into more fluid/loose riding which emulates motox. The kid has skills on a bike but like you said, its not all that surprising anymore when kids are riding non stop from 4 years old and come up trying to imitate the whips and jumps that they see in videos. Also see way more of them because everyone and their dog has a go pro, basic editing software and access to good internet nowadays.
I'm 51 in November, got into DH/ Freeride 2012 after years on and off all kinds of bikes. Love sending jumps and doing the occasional race, looking to hit Whistler next year. Not 60 yet , but hopefully i'll still be riding when I am;
I'm so jealous of kids these days. I remember my bike and gear when I was 14. I think how quick we would have progressed with the tech and trails they have today. I'm stoked to see the level of riding these kids are putting down regardless.
I had a s/m giant glory for someone easily double my size. Bike was at least 50 lbs and I was lucky to be 100lbs. Knuckle a jump? Suspension was like a bucking bull that threw you over the bars. In the tight tech stuff and you want to hit the brakes? Too bad you don't have any weight to actually dig the tires in and go just as fast as w/o them applied. Surviving a run was definitely harder than it had to be but was proper fun. I'm ready for north shore and the techy stuff to take back over. I'm tired of ducking table top after table top.. might as well ride a hard tail and go to the hike park ._.
The kid is clearly rad - but when you've got facility like that on your doorstep, it's kind of impossible not to be sick. Take any rider you know down your nearest local mediocre trails, throw them into Whistler for a season and watch what happens.
