Easily one of the best tracks I've ever ridden but he makes it look annoyingly easy! I'm pretty sure he just pressed fast forward. "STAY ON YER BIKE DANNY!"
Someone needs to figure out how to incorporate a GPS unit into the GoPro frame. Imagine seeing real time speed (during the video) and elevation loss? That would be such sickness!
Even dedicated GPS units are kind of crap. The consumer Garmin ones seem to struggle with accuracy under 25ft. On the Fort William DH, mines regularly only accurate to 70ft. Now imagine condensing that into a camera. It's going to be awful as an integrated unit.
Closest would be film and GPS at the same time and then sync them, which is what I've been working on for a while.
And I was just proud a few weeks ago, that finally the pictures on my action cam started to look fast on my hometrails..... uaaaaahh, he´s so fast and most of us will never come close. Sad! But admirable. Really RAPID! Great!
I really like him, I mean, his riding, and the choices he makes all the time to try out some different lines and everything... but, I mean, it ain't fair for the others, he is just stupidly fast !
Danny's time was 4:59 there (approx) and Gee's winning World Cup time last year was 4:36. Watching this vid you'd think it was impossible to go any faster so how the hell do you shave off 20+ seconds!!!! So quick.
Oh I am absolutely not commenting on any of the rider's performance, I'm just pointing out that it's absolutely ridiculous to compare last years track to the actual one, they're completely different.
Hit the first rockgardens after the boardwalks at the top and fly off into the heather. That transition from wood to big rocks always bounces me off in a random direction.
Not to sound like I'm trolling here... but the number of comments about PMB being "an XC track" a few weeks ago, and last year, was a bit uncalled for if this is supposedly the benchmark "MAN'S DH TRACK". There's a crap load of smooth, relatively dry trail, unobscene gradients; a motorway section with some huge tabletops and a few big gaps. Features of PMB as well. Sure, it has a few pretty mean rock gardens, and the slimy forest section looks pretty sketchy... but I don't think it was fair of the armchair WC DH champions to brand PMB an XC track. Most 'good' recreational riders wouldn't make it halfway across one of those tabletops, let alone clear all three. And that's supposedly on the "most XC" section of the track.
A full minute of smooth-ish rock/shale/gravel and BOARDWALKS before the first decent rock-garden? Dare I say that this could be done at WC downhill pace with a well thought-out enduro build?
Granted, this IS Danny f*cking Hart.. so he'll make it look easy no matter what.
I was there this weekend and believe me, it couldnt be any further from a XC track! I know what you mean by the 'load of smooth' in this vid, but its Danny Hart ffs, thats why it 'LOOKS' smooth!
You get what's called "fort William fingers" about half way down. This I when you can't remove you hands from the bars as your fingers are cramped beyond belief, due to heavy breaking and the roughest terrain I have ever rode. (Although Danny seems to make it look almost flat at those speeds). Awsome
The double ones are a nuisance. You have to be going at near pro speeds to consider clearing them, so anyone less than pro has to roll them, and break their speed and flow. I really think they should change the larger doubles there into a triple or quad for the crapper riders, while still allowing fast people to jump the whole thing.

Off topic, here he is whipping over the big hip jump
