bigquotesA stage that had it all, wind, rain , thrills and spills - Stage 1 of the Absa Cape Epic took rider through the trails of Hermanus and Stanford and the region called the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Heaven and Earth).

For many riders, this name couldn't have been more apt as the conditions turned this 98km stage into one for the history books.

I bet if they raced the grim donut at Cape Epic these comments would be exploding!

Yeah, there's no doubt that DH/Enduro is what most people on here are interested in.....The Endurance aspect of MTB isn't really their thing; maybe it reflects what the majority of MTB riders prefer....getting a lift to the top, then descending down a trail.....

Cape Epic is billed as "the biggest mountain bike race in the world," but it seems like few of the top World Cup riders are competing. Why is that?

If I had to guess its because its pretty far for many and a lot of the XC riders also compete in various road races which are currently going on.

it might be a "biggest" mtb stagerace, but far from biggest mtb race... but their marketing works well and it does have a decent hype around it

Not a solo effort so no points plus the cost to put a team of 2 all in has to be pushing $10K, even more if you wanted full "team" support there.

Before the "unspecified virus of unknown origin", there were plenty. Nino spends a lot of time in the Cape so it's almost a home race for him.

Nino anda Andri are looking consistent so far

 Bummer about Blevins getting sick.

I know most people here are talking about how lame this event is but I'm pretty stoked to hear Mitch Docker and Ian Boswell podcasting about it (especially since they're new to mtb). I thought this video recap was pretty solid though. Can't believe that announcer has to say those ridiculously long team names out loud every time though lol
