Brett Tippie caught up with the suspension experts at SR Suntour, Fox, and RockShox and asked them what the pros are actually doing.

"How do the Rampage Riders set up their suspension?"
(Nov 13, 2017 at 11:15)
Probably for pedal efficiency.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 12:38)
ahaha! u are made my day)
(Nov 13, 2017 at 0:31)
I dont know why I watched this video, maybe I thought there would be something new in the suspension setup from the previous years. I am so stupid!!!!!
(Nov 13, 2017 at 0:09)
Hucking without a HARD and STIFF setup is like playing billiards with a rope. Some "rules of life" seem to be interchangeable.

How do pro's set up their suspension for rampage? I've not watched the video but with 18 feet of travel I expect.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 0:43)
Yeah, like the days of Bender and 12" travel each end!!! I think these days it's just fackin hard and fackin slow. (Which is coincidentally how I tend stoke the mrs).
(Nov 13, 2017 at 0:44)
But without the 12" stroke :-)
(Nov 13, 2017 at 5:40)
: Bender didnt even need a suspension fork, he always landed on the back wheel.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 6:53)
: or his feet, or his head, or his back, or his face.... Landing back wheel or landing with any part of the wheels first was usually the biggest accomplishment for him lol.

How they set up the Marfoxxy and the Foxocchi?
(Nov 13, 2017 at 6:38)
I didn't watch but Ill guess its as firm and slow as possible.

(Nov 13, 2017 at 14:48)
They just use their massive balls to soak the hits up
(Nov 13, 2017 at 23:25)

(Nov 14, 2017 at 8:03)

(Nov 14, 2017 at 17:20)

(Nov 14, 2017 at 4:48)
Rampage is the highlight of the year, ALWAYS!
(Nov 13, 2017 at 8:18)
Would love to see this for the Bike Park around crankworx time.

Lair of the bear suspension setup is better than contrive-rage

(Nov 13, 2017 at 7:17)
Did anyone use Ohlins? I hear is very good suspension.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 10:09)
I've heard that "some guy" rides fest series on ohlins stuff...
(Nov 13, 2017 at 20:12)
i actually haven't heard anything good about ohlins from someone who has owned for an extended period to time. once in a while i hear something GREAT from people that "upgrade" to ohlins and say how awesome it is before riding it or after their first ride, but still have heard more bad than good from people that have substantial experience on them
(Nov 14, 2017 at 17:55)
: asking a friend how he likes a product he just purchased and expect him to say its 'bad or its ok but could be better' (instead of standard 'its awesome best purchase') is like asking Trump if america is better...

...and that is relevant for whom here??

How to set up an SR Suntour:
Step 1 Throw it in the trash
Step 2 Get a Fox 40
(Nov 13, 2017 at 14:47)
I got a Durolux, it's pretty sweet, and it was like half the price. My friend used to ride on a terrible old RST, and he was pretty good, I don't think the suspension is going to make you good.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 18:01)
Interesting. Sorge seemed to think it was good enough to go for a third win at Rampage.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 18:06)
Yeah, you tell 'em! Tippie, Sorge, Storch, the Hannahs... they don't know what they're doing!
(Nov 13, 2017 at 7:20)
Aaron Gwin wins WC races on a freeride bike.....set up is irrelevant.
(Nov 13, 2017 at 10:08)
Yeah or maybe it's Lacondeguy/Zinc winning freeride events on a race bike? Or you can tune a DH bike to suit either conditions, meaning set up is actually far from irrelevant..
(Nov 13, 2017 at 18:23)
(Nov 14, 2017 at 6:39)
It's a downhill race bike. That was always it's intention. Freeride is a marketing thing, everyone who buys it uses it for shuttle or lift access DH'ing or racing.
you are correct in saying AG races on it. His suspension setup is actually stiffer than everyone riding at this event (evident by past articles on the subject).
