I Ride For Nick's Eyes

Oct 25, 2010
by Mike Metzger
Nick Moore from Demon Dirt (aka the designer/team manager) was just diagnosed that he is going blind, due to an eye disease. His left eye is already almost gone and he is rushing to try and stop his right one. Nick has to get major eye surgery asap! We will be launching a "Save Nick's eye" project to help him pay for surgery.

*Win prizing from Camp of Champions and bid on products from Banshee Bikes, VP Components, Candy Components and One Ghost Industries*

Thanks you for your support.

You could win prizes from the following supporters for helping Nick save his eyes, all just just purchasing one of the jerseys found here:

Camp of Champions:

As Nick is one of our broheem's here at The Camp of Champions, we are going to donate an 8 day Camp of Champions session with accommodation to one random person who buys one of the jerseys. Buy a jersey, possibly win a trip to camp. The prize doesn't include airfare. Nick is coming to camp, so you can "Ride with Nick's Eyes" this summer. Get on buying a jersey everyone, this disease works fast so we have to work faster.
-Ken

Hi, my name is Nick Simcik, I am a pro rider on the Demon Dirt team. I am working with Nick and a handful of sponsors to have an eBay auction to help raise money for Nick's surgery. For now, we have a Paypal account set up gslaloman@aol.com if anyone wants to send a donation to. One Ghost has already donated a frame and headset and I am working with several other companies to put together some complete bikes and parts for auction on eBay. We will be notifying PinkBike once this auction goes up so you can make sure to be a part of this. Feel free to message me if you have any questions, want to donate, or help. Thank you from all of the riders at Demon Dirt and of course from Nick, your support helps him greatly!

One Ghost Industries:

One Ghost Industries is donating a Tanto frame.

Candy Components:

Candy Components is going to donate a sweet custom PINK-EYE headset!

Banshee Bikes:

2 AMP Frames

Hey man since I took a baseball in the face in June I've been almost completely blind in my right eye. It sucks, but you get used to it, and you gotta keep riding if that's what you love. Don't give up, if you've still got sight in one you'll make it through.

this is unbelievable nick. when i met u at otter u were so stoked on life, it sucks to see u like this and that this shitty of a thing has happened to u. best of luck, i will be buying a shirt for sure. everyone who knows anything about this company should know how valuable nick is and needs to buy a shirt as well

Pinkbike, keep this at the top of the page for a while, the more views this gets the better. I met the DemonDirt guys at Claymore this summer and they seemed like a great group of guys who make top quality clothes, so if you're questioning whether this is worth it IT IS! I can't imagine how lost I would feel if my eyes started to degerate.

I spent alot of time with Nick at Rampage, and he is one of the nicest guys in the sport, I really hope we're able to help him. Good luck Nick. I am buying a jersey for sure. Nick is a valuable person in our sport, and everyone should do what they can to help!

Even if you don't need the jerseys themselves, there is a paypal account for straight donations:
"For now, we have a Paypal account set up gslaloman@aol.com if anyone wants to send a donation"

Nick is one of the most down to life guys you'll ever meet. He built a company for the riders, and he gives back to them. He doesnt deserve this at all, I hope everyone on Pinkbike helps him out. I'm going to buy 6 of these jerseys. Plain and simple support the guy, it could be you.
Check out Demondirt.com for more. Hope all goes well for you Nick.

I hung out with Nick a little bit at Rampage and cant say enough about him! From the moment he met me he was super cool and WAY generous! He let a few friends and myself hangout with him where the media and riders got to hangout beyond "Spectators" line at Rampage! Got to talk with him and cant tell even tell you guys what a down to earth and Life loving person he is. He even introduced me to Steve Romaniuk while at Red Bull Rampage! The Industry NEEDs more people like him! Nick you are in my Thoughts and Prayers I have FULL faith that things will turn out for the best! Help and Support him! He needs our help right now! I know I would want help if I were in the same situation! Stay Strong Nick and you will Pull through. Smile

That's just so sad.. :/ I hope for the best.

I can understand how scared you must be man, going blind is one of my biggest fears. I'm defo going to buy a jersey mainly just to help but also because it looks sick! The biking world needs your eyes to brew us up some more amazing designs so I would also like to urge everyone to chip in and get a sweet top. tup

6 months ago I had emergency retina reattachment surgery. I was going blind but they managed to save my right eye. I regained 10% since and that puts me at about 40% now. It sucks but I'm learning to live with it. I sincerely hope all goes well for you man! We are all pulling for ya!!!
  • 1 0
Right on man, do you still ride? Smile

It kinda reminds me of this one guy I saw riding at Whistler who was legally blind. (Obviously had a tiny bit of sight, but not much) He had people in front of him and behind yelling instructions. "Hard right, table coming, air it, left!" Pretty amazing to see him tearing it up.

On that same subject - I saw a guy with one arm launch the Schleyer drop and rip right by under the chair. He was just holding onto the stem. I never saw that guy the rest of the day, but it was cool to see.

I really can't belive that you guys in the United States have no health insurance!!! Just donated by PayPal...
  • 1 0
it's not that he doesn't have health insurance because he does have good insurance through demon. It's that because the procedure hasn't been approved by the medical governing body, insurance doesn't cover it. I guess the surgery has been done for the past 8 years with quite a ton of success, it just hasn't gotten that approval
  • 1 0
