Injury Update: Jerome Clementz to Miss 2014 EWS Season

May 19, 2014
by Mike Kazimer
Jerome Clementz's shoulder injury, incurred while racing in the French Enduro Cup, will require surgery, forcing the French rider to sit out the majority of the Enduro World Series. According to a recent post on his site, the surgery will take place on May 26th, with an expected recovery time of three months.

bigquotesOf course it's a big disappointment, to end the season this way, especially after a strong start and all the work during the winter, but it's not in my spirit to attend a race at 80%; I like to be flat out and give my best. I've been lucky so far with injury and I always considered this situation as a possibility in my career. I always said to myself that in this case I'll choose the best long term solution for my body and my career. I'm only 30 and I want to keep my body in good condition, to be competitive and healthy in the future. Racing is only a part of my love for MTB and I want also to be able to enjoy my rides in a long term perspective. - Jerome Clementz

Jerome's Crash

bigquotesI want to thank everybody for their messages of support and my partners for staying behind me in these moments, I'm grateful to have so much support and it helps me to keep the smile on my face.

I'm glad to hear that he didn't take some short term solution like the previous article was speculating about! Long term health is much more important than not missing the next race!

I agree. It is good to see an athlete look at his injury situation like this. He has a great future and by choosing this route he will more likely be able to pursue his passion competitively that much longer!

Totally agree that a long term solution is a better one. I just broke both my forearms riding my bike, braking 3 bones. Now I have 3 titanium plates and bolts in my arms. Anyway, wish Clementz a quick and painless recovery and get back racing quickly.

Just uploaded the rest. No but seriously I feel very grateful I had the operation as if they had just put my hands in casts I would still be sitting at home getting fed by my parents. With the operation done I got out of casts after like only a month and now I am back on my bike. P.S. Had the crash in March and am now riding my bike. Not like jumping off steps and stuff but still riding the bike is still better that sitting at home. And, above all, I wish Clementz very speedy recovery.

Bummer! I wanted to see him and Graves duke it out again! Get better soon JC
  • 10 0
I reckon Graves will be bummed out about this too, he's got a better chance now but it won't be the same without his main rival Frown

Agree with his decision completely, a mature outlook on it all. Good role model for bikers of all ages! Get well soon JC.

A little random, but it's cool to see that he said he's only 30. I feel like there's this growing mindset that by 30, you're getting old, or something, so it's cool to see somebody who doesn't think that.

Shoulder injuries suck and take forever to heal. Best of luck healing quickly.

I'm putting Jared graves with the overall now, although after seeing the next rounds ews tracks then I'm putting martin maes/ joe Barnes with the win for round two.

Jerome out, Fabien Barrel out. Looks like it gonna be a duel between Nico Lau, Graves, and Martin Maes

Gravesy can cruise now. Those two were on another level consistency wise.

In a way I'm saddened by hearing this. But i am also vey happy for the opportunity this will bring to other riders of the unknown. There are a lot of fast people, that could be major contenders in the EWS. HEAL UP QUICK JEROME ALLEZ ALLEZ!

Come to newport beach, ca for your surgery! Dr. Pitre and few others are the best shouler specialist in the world! My labrum repaired shoulder is stronger than uninjured shoulder. .

Oh, looks like AC separation... I'm just suffering level V from the same for more than 2 months now after crashing due to locking the pedal on a root. You don't expect it and you're defenseless, it sucks Frown
Good luck and all the best! Be patient!

Hope he can bounce back and have a speedy recovery. Defiantly a bummer to get such a major injury on a easy section of the course.

Very sensible option, hope he comes back just as strong. Who will step up to fight for podiums now ?

On another note, Mark Wier is already back racing after breaking his pelvis and spine. These guys heal up fast because they're ultra healthy, and they work really hard at it.

I don't get how he fell (with all due respect). Caught his tire into something hard on the side of the trail?
  • 1 0
it doesn't take much to break a bone if you slam the right (in this case wrong) way

Makes me feel better knowing the pros also occasionally wipe out for no reason on straight singletrack
