In this episode of Inside Specialized Racing, we follow Jared Graves at the start of the Enduro World Series season. You'll get a glimpse into his training, while seeing the intricacies and pressures that come with an "everything counts" race series - from coping with jetlag to mechanicals.
it just shows you how much time and effort and work goes into being able to perform at your full capacity, its like a incredibly complicated jigsaw puzzles that takes years of work deciphering all the pieces and figuring out how they go together. And even if you do have all the pieces bad luck can quickly disrupt the game plan. I mean Aaron gwin at specailzed took almost two years to get back to full form. And Ken rocen has finally gotten to where he can challenge for the motocross championship after a year of problems adapting to a new team. Hell ryan dungey even struggled for years overcoming his mental block before he was really able to race at his full potential. It pretty incredible how much focus and long term perspective it takes to get to the top of any sport. Hopefully jared can kick some ass the rest of the year and just focus on 2017 for the overall. First year adapting to a new bike is an almost guarantee that your gonna have some problems and issues to work through. this way he just getting all the bad luck out of the way.
Haha dungey only won so much as villipoto and Stewart were out, Stewart was up there on the first race til dungey took him out, he never got his confidence or flow back for the rest of the season
@fullbug: after watching the video my first thoughts were Graves season is almost going as bad as Bubba's then saw your comment. K'Roc for the outdoors the dude is hauling now he's got his starts and forks dialed brraaapppp
@fullbug: the curse of joining specialized, Hill, Gwinn, Graves and now Bruni! maybe its kama for all the lawsuits ;D
Surprised Tomac was so far off the pace of Dungey and Roczen this year, i know its a new bike but he proved at Daytona he's got the speed. Hopefully everyone stays injury free and we have a decent outdoor season.
@shakeyakey: I think et3 just needs his gates dialed. roczen looks really fit. wish they were stoppin by freestone but no luck! that's where I saw tomac for the first time.
@briceps: it's definitely not crazy strong unless body weight is under 72kg. A lot of high school athletes can squat that much nowadays. Hell I I played football at a crappy school and we had 20+ people squatting over 400
He lost 17kg of muscle since the 4x days and still looks like an animal. Absolute boss, and cool guy too. Being articulate definitely helps win fans. Well at least one fan.
Soooo many reasons in that 5+ minute video of why the top riders are where they are. Flying half way around the world to ride in the rain and cold. ATTACKING a trail in the wet that he has never ridden before. I don't care what kind of bike Jared is riding, I am always going to be a fan of his. Same thing with Curtis - opening yourself up to let us see a small glimpse into their lives and see their humility when they aren't on the top of the podium or they don't come close to the results they had hoped for has to be hard.
The rule is because they want you riding the same bike for every stage. The rule exists to discourage riders from changing out rim, say a lighter one for one stage, heavier for the next, during the race.
Not really, The whole idea of enduro racing is to Finish the race and not wreck your bike. its a long day (6 hours in Ireland). If you ride smooth and protect your bike you'll get a good result.
Frame, fork and wheels have to last the entire race. Everything else can be swapped out if time allows, but due to the tight times on some liaison stages even that isn't always an option.
@kylesligo: how about running some proper DH rims and tyres? Nothing worse than having to brake before a rocky section just because you don't trust your bike.
If I recall, JG runs ali rims. In this case its irrelevant which material - any rim would have been damaged being ridden on hard with a flat tyre for half a stage or whatever it was.
@headshot: my guess is he races on aluminium and they put carbon on his bike at trade shows to pretend he uses them. That rim was rooted but still going round. I think a carbon rim would have been done half way back up the hill.
@WAKIdesigns: in that case you don't need to bother writing on this part of the thread, because we are very interested in the rim, less so in you telling us about how you don't give a shit
@jaame: Graves rides Rovals and it is impossible to check which ones until he says it in a bike check, since they all look the same from cheapest to the most expensive ones.
@WAKIdesigns: sorry my info was out of date,, thought it was obvious as it was the sb66 not SB5 or spesh.. it was more jaames comment that he suspected he rode all rims and put carbon on for trade shows which was not true..
Damn, Graves is in beast mode while training. Definitely makes me feel bad for being lazy about riding when it's raining or hitting the gym. It sucks that he's not in turquoise anymore but will always root for him.
That enduro 650b is not a race bike. Too low anti squat and crap leverage ratio. Dont care how much power you make it will get sappped by the mush rear end especially for the bmx style pedalers. He looks less than comfortable on that bike and the suspension is just wrong.
I wonder how many thousands of dollars of equipment these EWS teams destroy in a single race. There is probably no way I could afford that single rim that Paddy Behan just casually replaced for Jared haha.
To much apologizes, to much mecânicas problems, he says he is geting old... its a shame. Far from that unbeateble 4x racer. Maybe just bad luck maybe he needs a new Mecanic, or a new chain sponsor, maybe a new tire sponsor since he is having a lot of flats. I like a lot your riding Jared. Lets pray for a great come back like Sam Hill second place
Hope for specialized its gonna start going better real soon ...Cause so far I aint buying a spec Enduro
They got the best rider they could get . It doesnt look good at all . I start to wonder if curtis would be better on something else
Wouldnt be suprise if they come up with a total new bike next year !!
Surprised Tomac was so far off the pace of Dungey and Roczen this year, i know its a new bike but he proved at Daytona he's got the speed. Hopefully everyone stays injury free and we have a decent outdoor season.
That rim was rooted but still going round. I think a carbon rim would have been done half way back up the hill.
What does it say about the rim he destroyed in Ireland? NOTHING and I don't give a sht
