Last year at Fort William, we unveiled and raced our P3 (Prototype #3) M29. After many months of testing, adjusting, and planning this would be the first real-world test on the main stage. Jack Moir piloted the P3 M29 to a 2nd place finish, his best finish in a World Cup.

Intense M29 FRO

This year we will launch the M29 to market. We will release a very limited batch of FRO (For Racing Only) models in early Summer. This limited batch of 15 M29 FROs will be exact replicas of the Intense Factory Racing team bikes.  How ironic is it that those 15 bikes will likely never see a race.
  • 20 0
If I had the money I would buy one only because I am not a racer, just to be 'that guy'...
  • 4 0
 I'd argue unlikely
  • 2 0
 I would race it

This new “racing” standard is an outrage. Just stop bike industry

Racing specific is the new enduro specific

Does someone want to explain it for the people just getting lost and confused by it all?
  • 16 1
@bike-aholic: just ride what you have loved it and shred on it as often as possible
  • 17 6
@bike-aholic: Everything you own is now slow, boring and redundant. You need FRO equipt everything - including toilet paper - to be fast, fast = fun. 0.001 seconds gains are your life now.
  • 11 3
@bike-aholic: Didn't Intense start the FRO badge for the lighter weight, lower tire clearance frames like the Socom? Like a "race" tire compound so people won't complain if the tire evaporates while doing skids in the parking lot?
  • 37 4
FRO has been on their frames since at least 2007, and on their tires since the late 1990's.
  • 40 3
Singlespeedtoday is bang on - Intense have been using the FRO branding for years www.pinkbike.com/news/intense-m9-fro-crankworx.html - if anything that frame colour and race driven program is a throwback to their and MTBs heritage. Bike history 101 guys.
  • 15 1
So it turns out, certain FRO frames in the distant past, like the 5.5FRO, did use a different, thinner tubeset compared to the standard 5.5EVP to shave weight.
  • 2 1
 @Ron-C: Very interesting
  • 16 0
I have a old Tazer FRO. But I always thought it meant "F Right Off"
  • 30 3
This incessant bitching about something going on for a decade as if it's new is outrageous...just stop it new comers
  • 10 0
Racing is what drives high performance improvements.
  • 8 0
I had an old Socom FRO. It was raw to save paint weight and used a lighter tubeset too. It was a pretty damn sweet bike. Lil flexy for me...but I’m not a featherweight either. At one point the iscg mount cracked and intense welded a new on on and re-heat treated the front triangle! That bike got ridden another 5+ Year’s after that.
  • 4 0
If it's faster for some racers it's not an outrage. Have fun losing at races.
  • 9 1
Id buy it!! but I'm a dentist!
  • 4 2
@Clarkeh: FRO toilet paper gives you twice the width and twice the wipe speed!
  • 2 1
 @Ron-C:

thats what it was for originally

but then all the FRO bikes broke

and cost intense alotta money

now its just one the bikes to be cool like intense likes to do
  • 3 1
@singlespeedtoday: yes I had Intense FRO tires that treads were awesome but the sidewalls starting showing wear on the second or third ride. FRO might as well meant For(one)RunOnly
  • 4 0
I had a socom for 8yrs that was ridden twice a week. A slacker headset. It even did whistler for 3 weeks. It's never broke or let me down. Only issue as with all intense is the swing link pivots need thread lock. @mxmtb:
  • 3 0
@Intensevp: I'm using a Socom as a grunt bike.... Bullet proof so far...

I remember getting huge discounts on all things FRO back in the day. You can find them in the bargain bin (some people call them dumpsters) after a race.
  • 3 2
If FRO still means the same as it used to, these really are meant to be used for a limited time after which they should be replaced. Don't wait for the cracks as they'll grow faster than you may be used to. These frames were subject to harder riding but also subject to more frequent inspection than what the non-pro would execute. I think the pro riders back in the days (Kovarik, Quinn) typically rode a frame for half a season after which they got a replacement frame. It may last you longer as you don't ride as hard and frequent. Still, it is a big investment for something that is designed for higher performance (lower weight) in trade of a shorter life.
  • 2 0
@Intensevp: I still have my SS1 FRO frame. Amazing bike. It's cracked now after years of riding so is being polished and mounted on a wall at home in the very near future.
  • 1 0
So we want what the pro's ride. But we don't really want what the pro's actually ride. Hmmmm. I wonder. @vinay:
  • 1 0
@Intensevp: Well yeah, that's the thing right? Back in the days the customers didn't get what the pro's were riding. Yes Commencal did test with the Athertons and gave them the bike they were asking for. But the toned it down a bit for the customers based on the preferences of the Commencal staff who, considering the area they ride, should be good enough for the average customer. After all, to get the same fun sensation at the lower customer speed, you need to shorten and steepen the bike a bit. Same goes for the Iron Horse Sunday Sam Hill used to ride. But bike journalists aren't your every day mountainbike customers. Some of these have been racing WC too. So the preferred the bikes as raced by the pro athletes and praised the brands who offered the same bikes to their customers. But yeah, I'm going to argue that this isn't the ideal bike for the customer. To actually have the same kind of "fast" sensation, customers' bikes need to be steeper and shorter than what the pros race. Same goes for durability. The customer who spends own money on these bikes expects more durability than the "FRO" bikes have to offer. The ones who claim they don't care may very well be the ones who publish pictures of their broken frames on social media.
  • 2 1
@Karve: That Intense M9, WC ready, MADE IN CALIFORNIA for californian wages, was $3k only 7 years ago. Seriously, industry, WTF??
  • 2 0
@ismasan: The Orange 324 frame, also WC ready, UK made for UK wages, is 2600 euro right now.
  • 11 0
Why do people get butt hurt but limited editions? Seriously grow the f*ck up already. Don't want it don't buy it.

God people are becoming the biggest pussies that whine about everything.
  • 1 0
Probably best you don't buy one then. ???? @vinay:
  • 2 0
@Intensevp: Oh yeah, most definitely not something I should buy indeed. It is something everyone should decide for him/herself. But if you want something durable, FRO is not the way to go. Cannondale has also been clear about that it the past. They said more money buys you a more competitive frame for racing, but at the expensive of durability. I think they compared the Prophet model I bought with the more racy Scalpel. But they also had different alloys for road cycling. I don't know them all but I think they said CAAD9 was lighter but less durable. If you want durability, go for a CAAD5 frame.
  • 1 0
@properp: I take exception to that comment as does my bro...
Wink
  • 33 1
When you need to get around that UCI rule that says everything the racers ride must be available to the public in what was it 14 months?
  • 2 0
Probably the reason they put it out!
  • 5 0
@ehvahn: what about norco then ?
  • 1 0
@purplegorillaz: pretty sure their prototype was ridden in a later race?
Either way maybe we should just look out for their new bike later this year, I'm sure we'll see it
  • 1 0
 Nailled
  • 29 0
I don't usually care for black and red but this bike looks sick
  • 18 1
Agreed. It’s the first Intense since many years that looks like Intense. Love it.
  • 2 0
Ever model intense makes should be available in red, I don’t mind some of these colors but intense is a red bike in my mind
  • 23 3
They should save one and sell it in the pinkbike monthly checkout deals super cheap.
  • 2 2
 I'll watch for that
  • 22 2
Intense folks - ignore this entire comment section. Your bikes are rad - keep up the good work!
  • 3 0
@orastreet1. Yep 2017 tracer FAF! Great bike been loving it everywhere from park to enduro! Once again limited edition anything is just that... It's for collector rich AF people who "ride" twice a year!
  • 20 0
plenty of privateers could benefit from this. chill on the haterade
  • 9 2
Somebody had to say it. All these non-racer couch crusaders getting their panties twisted over something that could actually make them faster. It's ignorant and pretty hilarious to observe.
  • 5 0
Yea and a lot of the taller guys too, looking forward to the bigger bikes. Good work Intense
  • 3 0
@ehvahn: they hate us cuz they anus
  • 7 0
Don't race, ergo can't have one, ergo just saved a bunch of money. QED.
  • 17 3
you can always save a bunch of money on an intense

  • 2 2

@DasProfessor: :'D literally crying tears of laughter

Title should read: limited number... available early summer. Prices and spec available mid April.

If I raced DH and didn’t have a frame sponsorer, I’d give this thing a good look. It’s cutting edge and looks very fast.
  • 3 1
I assumed that last CEO got canned because of Rasta edition and Smokey and the Bandit Firechicken edition. Nope, that's just how Intense be. Seems like a lot of marketing relative to the size of the company, but I guess it pays the bills.
  • 3 0
Funny how they seem to have purposefully avoided to show the fork. Since it's a SRAM built, I would say it's a new boxxer 29er. So I bet the new boxxer will be presented before April 17th. time will tell

 "Each bike will be hand-assembled"

Too bad there isn't an alloy model. The test mules looked sweet.
  • 3 0
I think it's pretty cool that they named the tech who built the frame.
  • 2 1
Rocky Mountain will always be my "true north" for FRO. Long live freeride, Wade Simmons, having fun and just riding your bike,
  • 2 0
This is the best piece of DH equipment to become available for as long as I can remember. Looks fucking great too!
  • 1 0
The rules say that because they raced it at WC, they have to put it to market within a certain time thereafter, maybe this is their way of skirting that rule for the moment?
  • 1 0
It is a new rule right? It may be the way to prevent a truly innovative design like Honda had back in the days to hit the WC circuit. If you want to have something available for sale the next season, you should already have that prepared during the preceding race season. No way Honda could have done that back then.
  • 1 0
I've been sold things in this nature for my entire life at this point. "Wow isn't it amazing!"......"more than you can afford pal"
