Israel Hosts First EWS Qualifier Event

The Israel Enduro Series held Israel's first-ever EWS Qualifier event, with 300 riders from ages 9 to 55. The six-stage race took place in Misgav, one of Israel's most popular mountain biking destinations.

Two of the race stages were built specifically for the race, and the long day of 30 km and 1100 meters of climbing made for a hard race. The 34+ degree (celsius) weather didn't make things any easier, either.

The Full Enduro category winners are:

19+ Women- Yulia Repkin 21:45:68

19+ Men- Yonatan Yatom 16:24:88

19+ Ebike- Oren Hasson 16:38:78

The Enduro category (amateurs) raced four stages, and the Mini Enduro category ( ages 9-14) raced two or three short stages.

The race resulted in no serious injuries and lots of smiles. Festivities and fun ensued after the race, with a jump session and best trick contest, won by Ori Shamban with a backflip.

The Israeli summer is a bit hot for riding with a full-face helmet, but the Israel Enduro Series will be back this October with two more races. More photos are available here.

 Unfortunately, the Palestinians idea of "freedom" involves Israel's decimation, and so far, any other proposal that doesn't, wasn't attractive enough for them. As in most conflicts, there is no black or white and neither of the sides is innocent in perpetuating it, but as of now I'll take survival then consider peace.

 @foxinsocks: My sources are backed up by multiple UN resolutions declaring Israel's occupation of territory gained in the 6 day war illegal, and in breach of the Geneva Convention. This obviously in no way justifies violence (on either side), but leaves a ridiculously complicated situation. Of course Israel can lay claim to it's biblical homeland (essentially taken by the Romans), but by the same means pretty much the whole geopolitical globe could be rearranged to how it was 2000yrs ago.

I'm not trying to take sides, but there has to be compromise all round.

Looking at this current skirmish as a birthright arguement or a claim for land is overly simplistic and eventually leads you (and us) nowhere. As an example, and I dont mean to condescend, imagine I said i understand the entire conflict between Ireland and England because i thoroughly watched Braveheart (yes yes, i know it's Scottish, not all analogies are airtight) Smile
Im all about having a well informed and educated opinion. That said, i wouldn't presume to know better than a local who experienced a certain reality his entire life.  @diggorygardner: Mate it actually is really simple! You touched on it. Israel needs to give back ALL the land it stole in the 1967 war and vacate all the illegal Jewish only settlements! Then they need to end the system of oppressive apartheid throughout the region. VERY SIMPLE.
I am against all violence, but in terms of legality, the Geneva Conventions allow a colonized population to fight against a brutal and illegal occupier, especially if that occupier is constantly breaking international law and treating the captive people like shit. Cheers.

It is not the 1948 war either. It is the basic concept that Jewish country in the middle east is not an acceptable idea. Many of them have like zero tolerance.

There is so much poverty in gaza because it is controlled by a terrorist organisation who control where the funding is spent. Israel is mainly funded my citizens tax payers. Furthermore, gaza is a strip of about 20 miles long which wouldn't require so much funding. Israel handed over gaza in immaculate condition and the Arabs turned it in to a run down ghetto which just shows you their values. There are so many examples. Put an Israeli in gaza or the west bank and see how far he gets. Put a "Palestinian" anywhere in Israel and he'd be able to walk the whole stretch untouched. Furthermore, if he were to fall injured, he'd be treated by Israeli medical care as opposed to the israeli in gaza who wouldn't last a minute but probably get linched. Go back and do a bit more research mate. Go for a holiday in Israel and then take a trip over to gaza and then get back to me.

 Hello Pinkbike readers. My name is Noga Korem. I am a professional Enduro racer, from Israel. I have been representing Israel at international mountain bike races all around the world for the past 12 years. During these year I have heard all the bad comments about Israel you can think of. It has become very important for me to show people all the different sides of Israel. Last Saturday, two of my partners and I organized the 2nd race of the Israel Enduro Series which was also the first ever EWS Qualifier event in Israel. You can read about the event in the race report above. As you can see, their is no political statement in the article because we don't belive that politics have any place in the world of sports. You should know that we hosted a Palestinian ride at the last two races. We also had a bunch of Muslum and Christian Arabs and Druze at our races. So I welcome you all, dear readers, to come one day to Israel, see the country, see the reality and the conflicts for your selves so you can have your own opinion.  You are a great ambassador in the mountain biking world. I have seen you use mountain biking to encourage and empower women, children and even amateur hour athletes like myself. At Sea Otter 2018, when I was a guest at the GT booth you (and the rest of the GT crew) were exceptionally kind and I will forever be appreciative that you being a professional factory rider with your own busy schedule took time to help me, a total novice understand the DH track I would be competing in. You treated me with the respect you give your crew and teammates. To this day, I still would say you're the most humble and generous professional rider I know. I'm not Israeli, I'm an Asian-American guy from WA state; two entirely different backgrounds.

That said, you have welcomed people like myself with open arms in mountain biking and I hope someday people can reciprocate that inclusivity you bring to Israel and every where else you travel around the globe.

 It very much is. I went there for work several years ago, and had the opportunity to do a day of riding at a popular spot (Ben Shemen forest). It was quite a scene - dozens and dozens of cars unloading nice bikes, and a solid trail system. As my Israeli colleague said, “Mountain biking here is like golfing in other countries - it’s what professionals do.”

 I'd love to visit Israel someday. Sam pilgrim and Fabio wibmer both have pretty sick videos showing off mtb there. Cool to see the sport expanding anywhere in the world though. Sure seems like South America could be a mecca for mtb in the future as well.

 Lol at the “free Palestine” commenters... maybe next time take a look into the numerous attempts at the two-state solution which have been backed by Israel and were rejected by Palestinian leadership (one of which occurred in 2008 when Israel offered 99.5% of the West Bank and Gaza as well as a shared Jerusalem, but Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas refused).....

 Yes they are their biggest enemies. Hamas can only keep the Palestinians ransom and get loads of money by perpetuating a state of war instead of investing in them. While in the West Bank there are no elections but the struggle for the power is real and it, once more, neglects common Palestinians to a secundary role.
The nationalist gov in Israel doesn't help also on trying to deflate the more pro-war Hamas crowd.
Palestinian people/nation is also a pretty new concept "created" adhoc after their arab brothers quit fighting Israel, it then changed from Israel-Arab conflict to Palestinian-Israel. All that area as always been a pool of tribes much more group wise than a nation itself, of course that was exploited with the creation of the state of Israel, but in the previous decades it could have been pretty much anything and Palestine would be nothing more than just a name in a map of a country like Pan Jordanian, Pan Syria. (just read TE Lawrence)
It's a shame, but I'm hopeful that the new generations from both sides ill turn this around, but yeah, there's got to be compromise! Something that it has been neglected in previous agreements and negotiations.

Israeli riders, Jewish, Druze, Christian and Muslims alike, racing shoulder to shoulder without anyone so much as blinking. Sharing a passion, equally and so naturally.

I know that's not the picture most haters have i their mind. Sorry to burst their bubble. If only they took a second to look at the nuances of reality instead of looking at things in black and white and typing the first inciting slogan that comes into their head.

 I think mountainbiking would be a good thing to bring people together and I think it could be a chance to bring Palestiniens and Israelis together by something they have in common, and when it is just a very few of them but it’s a start. I know some other projects that bring those two groups together with sports like soccer or boxing, that’s just a small step but it achieves more than somebody from a western country writing ‘Free Palestine’ somewhere on the Internet. That said I also think Palestinians should have a better access to our beloved sport.

We ride bikes, have fun that’s what’s unites us. This race was incredible! Great vibes from everyone, awesome riders and the management produced an amazing event. I didn’t expect to enjoy so much from this event.
I’m new to mtb, and usually ride alone and travel by myself, seeing so much riders, so much people who come together to enjoy this sport was really heart warming.
I hope this sport will gain momentum here, and we will see more races and mtb riders coming together!!
Big thank q to Noga Korem, Arik Feldman and Avi Tamil for organising this evenet!! You are the best, and I hope you will keep going!

 I competed in this competition in the enduro category. 4 stages at a crazy level. A simple organization was perfect for all those involved in the operation and anything that touched on the competition. I have competed in competitions before but this has surpassed all its predecessors. Thank you to everyone involved in planning and organizing. And very much looking forward to the next competition !!!

 I dont think its the right place to discuss politics. Sports is made to unify people and not the opposite.

Am an arab Palestinian muslim woman, I love mtb and I bike with alot of people in the country, muslims christians druz and jewish. we respect each others and want the good for everyone. Noga korem is my friend and we ride together.
The world of mtb has introduced me to more ppl from all over the country and abroad, it made it possible to communicate and know more about each others.

Regarding everything thats happening which am against ofcourse, there are people on both sides that want peace to work out, i think this change can start from the government that should treat people farely and give them their basic human rights, otherwise the chaos will just continue unfortunately and innocent ppl are paying the price.

As an mtb rider, I think this sport makes it possible for people to get to know each others talk understand each others and make a way to make this world to be a better place.

It was fun for me to come to the last competition Noga planned for, it was really good times with my friends .

And as Nelson Mandella once said :

 For those who have never visited Israel or these beautiful trails in the forests that are shared by ALL Israelis - Jewish, Muslim and Christian - you should understand that the organizers of the Israel Enduro Series open up the competition and visitors from all of the local villages and communities. These trails are used by all of the People of Israel including local Arabs and Jews. The forest that they all share is meticulously managed to preserve the beauty so that it can be enjoyed by everyone.

The political situation in Israel and the Palestinian Territories/Palestine is a complicated one. Events like this and organizations like the Israel Enduro Series are part of the many local sporting and cultural gatherings where people can come together in peace and celebration of sport, competition, and the beautiful Land that everyone shares. I encourage everyone to become more familiar with the area and the wonderful people who work tirelessly to organize and manage these incredible gatherings and competitions.
