It's Zwift Season - Sunday Comics with Taj Mihelich

Nov 24, 2019
by Taj Mihelich
It's snowy up where I live and that means time to start riding the indoor trainer. My dog watches me pedaling in place, sweating and going nowhere. I can't help but imagine that he is wondering why we don't just go outside. Between you and me, the truth is that Monty's wee legs are too short to get through the deep snow.

Maybe I could get him a treadmill so he could chase me just like on the trails?

Or, maybe there will be a Dog Zwift update soon?

And then, to be fair, my weird blind cat, who will sit in a box for hours staring straight ahead, will need a Zwift version too.

@tajlucas maybe it’s time Fairdale put together a fat bike for you to get some outdoor riding in when the snow is on the ground. I can’t do the trainer thing, just gotta get outside!

Couldn't agree more on the fatbike part. But sometimes it is just too sloppy or cold or (with little ones) enough time to get out on the fatty.

Well then I hope they'll have snowshoes for Monty!

Totally get the need for a trainer in certain circumstances, whether little ones around the house, or pups with short legs. For snow biking, maybe a sled to tow Monty along and let him feel the wind in his hair...and those snowshoes for when he needs to explore a little? Great stuff as always Taj!

"If you're the type to subject yourself to intense trainer sessions instead of hitting the couch and binging on Netflix like a normal person, then chances are you're also the sort of person whose mind and body could really benefit from a good walk, even if it is through three feet of snow. Hey, maybe you could even try snowshoeing. (Just don't spend all summer stomping around in a bathtub full of cotton balls with a pair of tennis rackets strapped to your feet in order to train for it.)"

Where's the Sunday comic where Pinkbike users stop visiting the site after being angered by the slow release of the "field test" of only 14 bikes when Bikemag has over 20?

No. of tests released by Bikemag: zero

I don't get this Zwift etc. stuff. The graphics are horrible and the overall feeling quite lame.

Just rather watch some series/movie from Netflix or HBO while doing intervals or basic endurance with the trainer during winter if the weather does not permit MTB riding outside.

you should try Sufferfest then, they've recently moved it from a one week trial to a two week trial as well. I tried zwift (for about half an hour) when i first got my power data for my trainer... couldn't get over the like...1990s graphics of it. Sufferfest is a HECK of a lot better- real footage from real events (some videos even include DH/XC/BMX/Trials footage) engaging "storylines" that are engaging, and workouts planned and designed by trainers that work with pros.

I don't enjoy the free riding that much but I absolutely love the racing. If you are in any way motivated by competition, Zwift is an amazing way to not get fat all winter.

Seriously, I have had more than a few clients that have trained their dog to run on a treadmill. Once you get them over the fear(treats usually do the trick esp. with Corgi's) of WTF is that?- some of them can pull it off. Can pick up a used treadmill for less than the price of some new cranks. Indoor or outdoor, used or new, Monty don't care. Keep those honey badger nails trimmed thoughSmile

If people can train cats to shit in toilets and flush them afterwards, getting a dog to run on a treadmill can’t be that hard!

You need one more making fun of triathletes. Not sure how but it should be easy. Thanks for the laugh!

Zwift, lame, bikes work during the winter still.

Well it feels like that at home, and what about the cat sitting between you and the screen hiding your SPF during a test...
  • 1 0
I think the blind cat just needs a fan to simulate being outside. Save you a couple bucks.
  • 2 1
So true...Fairdale would make a wicked Fatbike!

Best one I’ve seen. So good. Thank you.
