After a long off-season, it is finally time to get back on the bike! This upcoming weekend the iXS Downhill Cup will open the season with the first-ever iXS race in South America, to be precise: Argentina! This first of two stops at the other end of the world takes us to Bariloche, before the second race will lead our way to Santiago de Chile.

In the northern hemisphere winter tightens its grip on the downhill riders who are already eagerly waiting for spring to come and the next season to start. But until then there is no choice but to physically and mentally prepare for what seems to be still so far away. But is that true?

The southern hemisphere presents a completely different picture: In the past few weeks lots of news from the New Zealand Nationals reached us and we are eagerly, and even a little bit melancholically, following the beginning of the season in that faraway part of the world. Let’s put an end to melancholy and the off-season! This year, we proudly announce that the iXS Downhill Cup too will open its 2016 season in January. We added two new races in South America to our schedule, which will take us to Bariloche and Santiago de Chile. And between those two races lays yet another weekend full of MTB action with the first stop of the Latam Open Shimano Series in Bariloche. This means a total of three weekends of racing in a row – making it definitely worth the trip.

The race in Bariloche was rated C2 on international level, and thus qualifies to be included in the UCI rankings. That means that these points already will be added to the 2016 score. (By the way, the minimum score that is required to take part in the World Cup has been increased to 30 points in the UCI rankings, which might make this race even more interesting for some Elite riders). But this surely is not the only reason for the trip, because as you all know that South America is also especially famous for its breathtaking landscape, incredible atmosphere and loads of cheering visitors.

The organizers of Ride SRL did their best, pushed their limits and gave the track a complete and thorough overhaul in the last few weeks. The track of Cerro Catedral is extremely demanding, not only because of its length of 2.8 km and its 600-meter descent, but also because of the extremely dry and dusty ground. And as the weather is usually rather dry and warm in these parts of the world everything seems to call for an extremely exciting first race of the season! See you guys under the bright and shining South American sun!
