The 2011 Jamaica Fat Tyre Festival is set to go February 20-27th. If you like the thought of riding your bike in the warm Caribbean sun while most of the rest of the northern hemisphere suffers through a cold or wet winter check out the details inside.
Info and Schedule Inside....
I've been to the Jamaica Fat Tyre Festival 3 times already, and I'm ready to go back again. Join me in Jamaica February 20-27 for a week of singletrack and good times Jamaica style. I just received this from my friends Jon and Andy in Jamaica:
Hey cool friends of SMORBA,
We have nailed down our plans for next year's amazing Fat Tyre Festival. The 2010 event was dubbed the Fatter Tyre Festival and 2011 is going to be frickin' obese. We added an extra day, more riding and the ridiculousness that we have become World famous for will be cranked up a notch or few.
The Welcome/ Registration party is on the 19th of February and the last day of riding is the 26th. The fee is US $999 which we think you will all agree is a bargain and works out about the same as 2010 when you figure in the extra day. We should have the details on www.SMORBA.com shortly, so check it out. As usual spaces are limited, we don't want to be the biggest just the best. We will give preference to riders who have been before (which is why you are getting this email now) but you have to let us know so we don't give your coveted spot to some random spandex wearing dude.
We included two attachments. 1) Our "Foreign" Poster. Feel free to print out a couple and put up in your favorite bike shop, etc. 2) Our Press release which you may not need since you've been here before, but feel free to pass it along to clubs, Facebook it, etc, etc.
We'll soon update the FAQ and send out the registration form to those who are interested. Our blast to sites and our larger email list will begin a week from today.

Oh man, where's that picture of the guy on the POS bike with sandals smoking the guy in nice gear and a nice bike... That is one of my all time favorite MTB related photos.
I think it is my 12th JFTF. it all started here in 1998 rusty.nyws.com/events.htm and now it is what we all envisioned. I will say that if you like reggae, incredible rides, sacredly secluded water falls and beaches...... ......good vibes....did I say secret buffed whistler style trails....and....natural weather beaten foot paths... ......it is all there thanx to Jon and Andy who host the event. I think it is the deal of the year...all ya need is a bike, a plane ticket and some spending money along with the entry fee. It begins in Ocho Rios and descends into the bush and eventually into the John Crow/Blue Mountains.
I am packed and ready to go. anyone serious olease check out somepics in mi gallery or look at: mountain bike jamaica on facebook
are thare different packages you can book, or is one fee all inclusive? I'm actually really interested in going, I just don't think I could afford it, unless I sold my bike.....which I'm not really willing to do.
No, that's pretty much the one all inclusive or almost all inclusive package. It's not luxury, but it's a great time with great people. That pays for hotel accommodation every night, shuttle truck, bus, lots of food, guiding, etc. And even a few drinks...
that food looked sooo good, i wish i could go down, smoke up with the locals and have fun riding bikes with everyone then just eat everything!!! so good
oh man... I am looking out of my window and it is cold and raining cats and dogs... such vids makes start thinking of escaping from that crap here around.....
Love it
you can, you just need to buy a ticket pay your money and go, it's that easy... Oh, and you need to leave any and all stress and ego type stuff you might have at home, otherwise you'll probably lose it.
Haha. That's easy for you to say, you have the sickest job ever while I'm stick in school and doing homework you out traveling the world taking amazing photos and getting paid! My dream job!
Yes, it definitely is, there aren't a lot of rental bikes in Jamaica... There are also a few things to be aware of when bringing your bike, details will be provided by Jon once you're registered....
EDIT:
Found it. The guy came in SECOND in the XC race. How freaking awesome is that. www.pinkbike.com/photo/4568589
