Press Release: Jibe Cycleworks

The Fully 29er is the third model from the new Salt Lake City, Utah-based brand.

Jibe Cycleworks officially launched last summer with a lightweight carbon hardtail XC, a carbon fat bike, and today announces its third model: The Fully.

As its name implies, the Fully is based on a full-suspension frame and builds on Jibe’s mission to offer quality carbon fiber bikes at an attainable price. The Fully comes in two different complete builds—XC (Cross Country) and DC (Down Country)—and there are ten build kits and price levels between the two builds, ranging in price from $3,500 to $8,500. All builds include Shimano or Sram AXS drivetrains, Shimano brakes, Fox, Rockshox, or Marzocchi suspension and Vittoria or Maxxis tires. The Fully is also available as a frame with Fox Factory or Rockshox shock for $2,000.

“All Jibe bikes are designed to get more riders on the trails and experience the joy of mountain biking by offering bikes that are fun, versatile, and balanced. We only use components from the cycling industry’s most reputable brands, so Jibe customers can feel confident knowing their bikes are built with quality parts they can trust”, said Jibe Cycleworks founder Jason Halverson, who brings a long and proven track record in the bike industry to the brand. Before launching Jibe earlier last year, Halverson spent more than two decades in various roles, including shop owner in Salt Lake City, product developer and designer at GT Bicycles and OEM accounts manager at Shimano North America. He previously designed and manufactured BMX, mountain bikes, and cyclocross bikes under his former brand, Staats. He also brings significant race experience to his development of Jibe bikes, with national championship titles in enduro and dual slalom, Crankworx mountain cross and dual slalom titles and top national finishes in the ABA BMX series.

With Jibe, Halverson’s inspiration was the kids he watched racing in high school mountain biking leagues in Utah. As a parent of a NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) racer, he noticed that a lot of kids were riding bikes that weren’t right for the XC terrain of NICA racecourses, and their parents’ buying decisions were often clouded by kids wanting what their buddies were riding or what seemed cool in the media, even if it wasn’t right for the XC discipline. He’s aiming to provide clarity in the buying process by putting together the best frame and parts package for the money, with a focus on reliability so all riders—not just high school students—can enjoy the ride without thinking about their bike.

“I wanted to offer a quality, light-weight carbon fiber bike that you could get on, get out on the trail, and just focus on enjoying the ride. A great bike that inspires confidence that you have the right bike and set-up, which allows you to focus on just being out and having fun,” he said.

To create the look of the Jibe, Halverson enlisted longtime bike designer Jimmy Browning, founder, and creative director of WITK Design, to establish the brand's aesthetic. Browning developed all aspects of Jibe’s creative, from branding to specialty paint and product graphics. "We are especially passionate about projects and brands like Jibe,” says Browning. “We welcome all opportunities to inspire the cycling community and most importantly to get kids stoked on bikes."

Along those lines, the Fully frame utilizes a simple single-pivot suspension platform, which is designed to reduce weight and increase durability, and requires less maintenance than more complicated suspension designs. The seat-stays flex vertically, allowing the suspension to move freely and help absorb vibrations. The suspension kinematics have been engineered to create a fast yet compliant cross-country bike, with an axle path and shock leverage ratio that emphasize anti-squat and anti-rise properties and reduce pedal kickback.

The frame’s geometry is modern, but moderate, with a 68-degree head angle, 74-degree seat angle, 17.2-inch chainstays, 17.5-inch reach and a 1,143.5-inch wheelbase (size large), and is designed to perform as both an XC race machine, or a more playful, forgiving Down Country trail bike.
The design goal behind the Fully’s geometry and suspension was to create a centered and balanced riding position that allows for an effortless transition between seated riding and standing, as punchy climbs or techy rocks and roots approach. This sweet spot helps riders keep weight over the front tire so it stays planted, while maintaining enough traction on the rear tire to continue propelling forward. The front-to-rear balance is also very apparent when cornering—you can easily rip through turns without having to throw excess weight over the front wheel to maintain traction.
“The Fully is nimble and precise,” Halverson says. “It climbs as fast and efficiently as any other modern XC bike I have ridden, yet corners as well and is as playful as the bikes I used for mountain-cross and dual slalom racing.”
The lightweight, sub-1700g (3.75 lbs.) frame features include space for two water bottles inside the front triangle, Boost 110/148 spacing front and rear, post-mount brakes for 160mm rotors, a Press-fit 92 bottom bracket, 31.6mm seat post diameter, 1 ⅛ - 1.5-inch taper steer tube and clean cable routing under the handlebars and the through the headset top cap, that results in shorter cable length, reduced cable stiction, and less brake-line flex, on top of a weight savings. Max tire width is 2.5 inches. The frame has passed all ISO testing standards for strength, impact, pedaling, vertical, horizontal, and vibration and fatigue testing.

The Jibe Fully comes in four frame sizes, SM to XL to fit riders from 4-foot-10 to 6-foot-6, and in two colors, Mint Pearl or Cookies N’ Cream. Bikes are available now. Jibe bikes are sold directly through the Jibe website then fully assembled and quality-checked before they’re boxed and shipped at no additional cost. Customers can specify personal size and color preference for many of the components. Final assembly by the customer entails putting on the bars and front wheel. Bikes can also be picked up at Jibe headquarters completely assembled.
