Norco Bicycles is thrilled to announce the continuation of our partnership with mountain bike athletes Jill Kintner and Bryn Atkinson. Both riders have successfully led Team Norco International on the UCI World Cup downhill series for the past 3 years, and for 2015 Norco will sponsor their program to promote the sport and events outside of World Cup racing. They will compete primarily in North American gravity events to include; the Pro GRT series in the US, Sea Otter Classic, Crankworx BC/NZ, The Colorado Freeride Festival, select US Enduros, and create video productions closely tied with their sponsors. As deeply passionate and committed athletes, Bryn and Jill will also coach instructional skills camps in the Pacific North West to give back to their community and mentor the next generation of up and coming riders.

Jill Kintner was only one of two women to clean the rock garden. The other was Pom Pon. Both Atherton and Carpenter got hung up here but it didn t keep Atherton from qualifying first.

Bryn Atkinson absolutely sending the rock transfer lower down on the course. 11th and timed training today and said I m going to put down the run of my life tomorrow and just go for it . Bryn is a staple of World Cup racing and really hope to see him up in the top steps tomorrow.

Jill and Bryn are valued members of the Norco family. "Since 2012 the couple have been a pleasure to work with here at Norco. It goes without saying that our bikes are better because of them," says Norco Team Coordinator Jonathan Duncan. "The exposure and results they bring to the table are of great value to our Norco brand, and we are very pleased to be able to continue working together."

Jill Kintner BMX Olympian. multiple 4X World Champion and US National DH Champion. And Sudoku addict. Leogang 2014.

Bryn Atkinson. The quiet Aussie is winding down his career but his time in the speed trap at World Champs shows he s still one of the fastest men out there. Fort William 2014.

Bryn and Jill had this to say "We're excited about the direction we are headed and the changes in our program - now we have the freedom to do the events that provide the most impact. Racing, filming, photo shoots, festivals, trade shows, and other special projects will keep us busier than ever! Norco is a great company with an awesome line of bikes and we couldn't be happier to continue riding for them!"

Does this mean no more World Cup DH? That's kind of how the press release reads. Jill was usually pretty close to a podium finish in the WC events. Bryn can ride in more cool Jasper Wesselman Mid-Town videos, that one was an instant classic.

That's the way I read it too, maybe heading up a new enduro team?

Text of the press release confirms it: "promote the sport and events outside of World Cup racing."

The way I read it is Norco are sponsoring Jill and Bryn to ride outside the UCI World Cup - mainly in North America. This makes a lot of sense as it gives the brand good exposure in the largest market.
Meanwhile Norco have released a vid 'Norco Factory Team Sneak Peak' which states that they are going to reveal details of their World Cup involvement on 26/11/14. The speculation from viewers of the vid is that at least one of the team is going to be Blenki.

I have no idea what Jill's thoughts and reasons really are but there are a few things to keep in mind. One main one being that she is pretty old as far as a bike racing career goes (33) and has been racing bikes professionally for a long time. From being one of the top BMX riders, to a top 4x rider, and now climbing the ranks of DH.

To most of us that sounds like a dream but I'm sure that after all the years of traveling and racing and pressure that it starts to take its toll. At this point in her life and career I'm sure there is a certain appeal to cutting back on the travel and staying closer to home, riding in a more relaxed atmosphere etc.

 BLENKI.

All I did was copy & paste the ACTUAL press release, vs the edited version that PB put up. sorry that that offends your delicate sensibilities.

sweet, another pro team signing on for the pro GRT series!
  • 8 0
you are correct sir. time to bring the national race series in both america and canadia back to what it once was. the was a time when being a national level racer meant something.
  • 6 1
It's gonna be stacked this year, and hopefully bring in a ton more racers and riders to the GRT program.

Also: being a national rider still means something to those of us doing it.

 And nothing to anybody else
  • 2 1
That's interesting, because that's not what any of the American companies I'll be working with next year had to say about it. Wink
  • 2 0
i guess if your not surrounded by it you just dont get it. the pro GRT series is huge here, and still growing.
  • 1 1
Well, the funniest thing about @truthandbicycles comment is that the GRT is now officially a UCI-sanctioned points series and will be broadcast on ABC and NBC next year within regional areas, which means people actually DO care about the series and that it DOES mean something inside of the industry. 2015 has some amazing races at really great venues, and it's going to be the season to watch here in the US.

television?! thats dope, ill have to get some fresh matching gear so i look good for the camera. even though i doubt theyll broadcast amateur men 19-29

Norco team trying to be the team that we all want to know its new rider, that we already know.
CMON WE NOW IT!

PD:
I want to try that new bike.

And we are expecting Blenki in Norco
  • 3 0
So this means no Lorenzo or Isak?
  • 3 0
It's quite possible that Lorenzo and/or Isak have been moved to the new Norco World Cup team... Norco are forming their own factory DH team to race world cups, while Bryn and Jill will continue with their program (Team Norco International) racing other events. Seeing as the new factory World Cup team has 4 riders (one of them almost certainly being Blenky), I think there's a good chance Lorenzo and/or Isak are on that team. Smile
