The Junior Women's Race as it Happened

4:15 am PDT: The Junior Women's Race is Now Underway
We have our first-ever live broadcasted Junior finals kicking off in Lenzerheide with Transition Factory Racing's Taylor Ostgaard starting proceedings.

4:19 am PDT: Taylor Ostgaard Goes 10 Seconds Up on her Qualifying Time
The track is looking fast today as Taylor Ostgaard improves upon her qualifying time by over 10 seconds with a 3:45.649.

4:21 am PDT: Soline Besson Goes Over 8 Seconds Back
Soline Besson has a tough run as she goes slower than her Ninth place qualifying time to cross the line over eight seconds back.

4:22 am PDT: Riley Miller is the New Race Leader
Riley Miller takes the top position so far as a fast final split helps push her past the time of Taylor Ostgaard to take the lead by nearly one and a half seconds.

4:23 am PDT: Emma Iten goes 0.9 Seconds Up
Emma Iten goes fastest so far at her home race knocking nearly a second off the previous top run. We are still around 16 seconds off yesterday's top qualifying time.

4:26 am PDT: Vanesa Petrovská has a Huge Run
Vanesa Petrovská smashes the previous times going into the lead by just over nine seconds. As we get into the final five riders the new leader is still around seven seconds behind the top qualifier so we could have some even faster runs still to come.

4:28 am PDT: Pinkbike Racing's Aimi Kenyon Goes 2nd
Aimi Kenyon was looking strong in the first two splits but something must have happened between split two and three as she loses a lot of time to cross the line six seconds back.

4:30 am PDT: A Rapid Run for Lisa Bouladou
Lisa Bouladou lays down a very strong run coming into the finish just ahead of the top qualifying time of Valentina Roa Sanchez.

4:33 am PDT: Erice Van Leuven Goes Fastest by Over Five Seconds
Erice Van Leuven takes the lead by over five seconds. There is still Valentina Roa Sanchez left at the top.

4:35 am PDT: Valentina Roa Sanchez Goes 2nd, Erice Van Leuven Wins the First Junior World Cup
Valentina Roa Sanchez started off strong but loses time in the lower parts of the course to take second place. Erice Van Leuven, therefore, takes the win at the first Junior World Cup of the year.

The Junior Men's Race as it Happened

4:49 am PDT: Dylan Marino Sets the First Time of the Day

3rd. Alfie Heming: 2:59.502
4th. Sixten Lind: 2:59.502
5th. Evan Medcalf: 2:59.734

5:02 am PDT: Nathan Pontvianne Crashes Just Short of the Line
Nathan Pontvianne was on a great run tracking for 2nd in the splits but a crash right on the lines drops him back to sixth.

5:04 am PDT: Top 5 with 10 Riders Remaining
There are no changes at the top as we head into the final 10 riders.

1st. Ryan Pinkerton: 2:52.000
2nd. Mike Leon Huter: 2:55.366
3rd. Alfie Heming: 2:59.502
4th. Sixten Lind: 2:59.502
5th. Evan Medcalf: 2:59.734

5:10 am PDT: Rafaël Pelletier Goes 2nd
Rafaël Pelletier takes 2nd as he comes the closest to Ryan Pinkerton so far. The Canyon CLLCTV Pirelli team is having a strong showing in the Junior racing this weekend.

5:11 am PDT: Hugo Marini Goes Fastest by Just 0.225 Seconds
Hugo Marini attacks the Lenzerheide course putting down a wild run to go into the lead by only 0.225 seconds.

5:13 am PDT: Dane Jewett Takes 3rd
Dane Jewett quickly built up the speed after a slow start to ride himself into the top times as he crossed the line in 3rd, three seconds back.

5:14 am PDT: Christian Hauser Goes Fastest
What a run from Christian Hauser as he goes nearly three seconds up on Ryan Pinkerton. We have now passed the fastest qualifying times, what can the final five riders offer?

5:18 am PDT: A Big Crash for Ryan Griffith
Ryan Griffith was on a great run before he got bounced off the track in the lower part of the course. It's good to see Ryan Griffith quickly back on his feet and making his way down the course.

5:22 am PDT: Bodhi Kuhn Crosses the Line 2nd
As Bodhi Kuhn ends his run in 2nd it is only the fastest qualifier Henri Kiefer who can stop Christian Hauser from taking the win.

5:23 am PDT: Henri Kiefer Slides Out
Henri Kiefer has lost over two seconds at split three, it looks like Christian Hauser will take the win unless the German rider can do something special at the bottom.

5:24 am PDT: Christian Hauser Wins in Lenzerheide
As Henri Kiefer goes over the line in fourth it is Christian Hauser who takes home the win at the first Junior World Cup of 2023.

 Initial thoughts from me….
- Camera angles better than what Red Bull had, actually zoomed out and not focused in so you can only see the wheels
- CG talks too much, focus on the racing!
- why are the split times hidden in the top tight hand corner really small, these need to be big and obvious!
- RM declared the race winner 3 times with riders still to go, pretty embarrassing, pay attention!!

Yep - agree with all that. The track taping might be helping with the cameras. When they showed the first rider, it looked a lot like the full course was covered! The split time colours were all wrong. Red and green mixed. Don't understand. Commentary definitely lacks the Red Bull polish, but hopefully will improve during the season.

Actually the commentary has already improved masses for the Junior men

@thingswelike: yeah, give the guys a few weekends to warm up.

Maybe we're being a bit harsh (it was the first ever junior broadcast after all), but there are things that I can't see how they'll change at this point. The split time graphics need work. Just popping up randomly without the leaders time countdown that RB had, is disappointing. Also, no graphics for remaining riders list seems cheap. Hopefully they at least have that for Elite.

@adamkat: Yeah, I had to get a startlist from the internet to know who was left up the hill. Basic stuff, but also easy to correct going forward

For a first show that wasn't bad. Rob and Claudio is a tough act to follow after years of perfecting their commentary. Looking at some of these comments people people are writing it off way too early.

 @Clemounet: awesome, thank you!

Flashing the start list would be helpful for us, and evidentially the announcers, as they seemed to not know how many riders were left by calling the winner early.

Christian Hauser looks like he might be the real deal.
Last year he won 4 times in the iXS DH European Cup U17, and his smallest winning margin was 3 seconds (largest was 6.5).
Yesterday he was 24th at Split 2 and came back to qualify 6th.
Today his winning margin was 1.6 seconds.
Looks like this should be an interesting year for the Men's Juniors.

Coverage seems good, but WHERE ARE THE SPLIT TIMES?!?!
  • 6 1
Paid for a month with GCN+ and actually pleasantly surprised. Footage looks better than Redbull so far and the commentary is fine. Love CG, legend. Do miss Claudio tho.
  • 1 0
Yeah apart from the random lagging and audio issues it was pretty good.
  • 1 0
Pretty sure these are local region specific broadcast companies, and Lenzerheide has had these same locations on course, so no change really.
  • 6 0
 Commentary not the best

major f8ck up by Rich declaring the jr women winner when the first qualifier was still left to go.

Didn't they have a "test event" to work out these kinks? Maybe they should have done a mock broadcast to actually 'test' their abilities, not just the racing format ... not saying they needed to show the world, but give the tech & commentator crew a chance to practice. They clearly needed it.

Came here for the unanimous CG is bad comments. Wow. And I used to complain about Claudio!....CG is next level amateur. But, overall I am happy with Jr coverage, the footage, etc, just put it on mute and enjoy.

the stoke is high, but annoying.
