With a sold out crowd of 410 registered racers and perfect conditions, Round 4 of the California Enduro Series at China Peak (presented by VP Components) was a great way to kick off the first round of the "Golden Tour"! This special series within the CES highlights some of the best venues in California and had a pretty hefty cash purse for the Pro Categories.
The challenging terrain and higher elevations make China Peak one of the toughest races on the tour. In fact, racers were required to wear full face helmets, knee pads, and gloves for practice and on race day. The rock garden on Stage 3 was all the evidence needed to support that decision!
The Kali Road Warrior was there with the 'Racer Support' Helmet Exchange Program to ensure that every rider had the opportunity to test their mettle without worrying about having the proper protection. Many racers cashed in on the program as they crashed their way down the mountain. Over the course of the weekend, 8 Full Face and 4 Half Shell helmets were exchanged. Some of the damage was pretty extreme! Thankfully, every rider survived to race another day. Everyone from racers to their friends and family who attended were completely floored and forever grateful for the generosity of the Kali Road Warrior Racer Support Program.
"We are excited to have Kali on board this year as a sponsor. By bringing out The Road Warrior Program to three of the events, it's a perfect match for the series. It helps allow riders whom might have damaged their helmets on a race stage be able to replace it and continue their race. It's a great safety feature for our riders." - Megan Gemelos, CES Sponsorship Director.
"I was surprised to see so many helmet exchanges for a first-time program, but we did a good job of getting the word out to all the racers and event attendees so that they could take advantage if needed. I really appreciate this program, and Kali's support, because the riders recognize this as a big value added to being a part of the CES." - Erik Saunders, VP Components.
The weekend finished out with a great podium ceremony including prizes and cash for KOM/QOM Stages and the Speed Trap, with Kali rider, Jeff Kendall-Weed, and legend, Brian Lopes tied for the fastest speed clocked through the rock garden.
What is the Kali Race Support Program and who is the Road Warrior?
In an effort to support events and racers of all levels, Kali Protectives has launched a new Race Support helmet exchange program in conjunction with the Kali Road Warrior.
We all ride and unfortunately, crashes do happen. Sometimes that happens at an event or race weekend, resulting in your helmet being damaged and unsafe to continue to use. But you have more racing to do. What now? When the Road Warrior attends a scheduled event, registered racers/attendees have the opportunity to submit their crash damaged helmet for inspection, and exchange it for a brand new Kali helmet at no charge. Kali is on hand to ensure riders can continue to compete without worrying about their helmet.
Currently, the program is limited to the West Coast, however, we are preparing to launch another Road Warrior and Race Support Program in Canada. Providing this initiative continues to be successful, we may establish Road Warriors in other territories.
