Kenta Gallagher Joins Polygon UR Team for 2017 - Video

by UR Team

For 2017 we want to keep the same direction as last year by supporting again the fastest world cup privateer so we are very happy to welcome in the Polygon UR family Kenta Gallagher , 24 year old from Scotland. If his name sounds unusual for it's because he is half Asian from his mother's side.

His origins or the fact that he was the fastest world cup privateer are not his only singularity as back in 2013 Kenta has already won a World Cup in XC Eliminator race in Nove Mesto.

After some good results in the world of professional XC, Kenta followed his heart and made the switch to downhill racing in 2015. So yes it's only been 2 years that Kenta has been racing world cup DH and he has already achieved 2 top 20 and a 39th at the world cup overall.

Kenta's focus will be on the UCI world cup DH but he will also be doing half of the EWS circuit, as you will see in his video below he is comfortable on any kind of bike.

bigquotesI'm so happy to have an opportunity on a team like this so early into my downhill career. I had planned 3 years maximum to get on a team so for it to come after the second season I'm so happy! Mainly the backing and support at races that I think will push me forward and the chance to ride with everyone in a team environment should be great! Roll on 2017! Well excited! - Kenta Gallagher

bigquotesLast year hiring the fastest privateer rider of the circuit was a really good decision because with Alexandre Fayolle we've got some amazing results with even a world cup podium and i have a similar feeling for Kenta! As a former privateer world cup racer i remember the struggle, so what Kenta has done in just 2 years is to me something really special. For Kenta to step back from a professional XC career with a stable life to having to work part time in a cafe to go race DH as a privateer is to me one the highest sign of passion and dedication for the sports that I've ever seen. So that is a real pleasure to support him and I'm very confident that Kenta will fit perfectly in the " Dream Ride Share " team spirit with his positive, laid back and hard working attitude. - Fabien Cousine

Excited to hear the "Jap import" gets a team ride for the coming season! Seems like a great fit. Hopefully his contract includes mandatory subtitled course previews like at Fort Bill: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln0JDXkP8Xk

So good to see this dude get a ride! I remember seeing his name on the qualifying results sheet in Lenzerheide a couple years ago in 17th and just thinking "who the f*ck is that?!". Also, great to see UR take the time to put out a proper video and press release. You see some teams sign a rider and they put out a couple of lame pictures and a half ass press release. I'd way rather see something like this!

100% agree about the press release video. Not only is it a great edit but it also shows off a whole range of Polygon bikes many of which I didn't know existed. Polygon know what's up - quality sponsors, I'm very impressed.

I really enjoy all the stuff ur are putting out atm, this was another cracker. If I was a sponsor id be happy too as they covered a lit of products well too. I actually think most team vids don't do that very well.

I love the fact that UR go with that policy to give the fastest privateer a ride, props

Props to him for skipping straight to DH from XC. I would guess most put their time in Enduro first. Also, props to Polygon for keeping a well stacked WC team. Can't say I've ever seen a Pokygon on the trails in Southern California, but glad they sell enough bikes over the pond to keep it going.

good luck for the season ahead mate Smile

Kenta is sponsored by Kenda. They swapped the D for a T and he's not sponsored by DT Swiss who manufacture wheels and aren't a country just like Scotland isn't. Coincidon'ts? I not think...
