Toonie race at Kicking Horse Bike Park

Come celebrate the opening of a NEW trail at the Kicking Horse Bike Park this coming Saturday, September 1st. The machinery and trail crew have been working hard on a new trail for next season; so hard that it will be ready for opening by next week! Also on Saturday the Kicking Horse Bike Park will be hosting a Toonie Race in conjunction with the Golden Cycling Club (you don’t have to be a member to race). Entry fee is $2 and the winner takes half of the entry fees, with the other half going to the Golden Cycling Club. You also need a lift ticket or season’s pass. Registration will take place in the Day Lodge from 1:30 until 3:00 on race day. After challenging your buddies, or yourself, there will be a barbeque and beers at the base.

A quick update on the park: Showdown has ridden in really well, giving us a good idea of what needs tweaking next year - the tables are good, but don’t hit them full speed. Lots of new wood has been popping up all over the place. There are some new features on the middle pitch of Road Runner, either to roll or gap. Pioneer has a sweet new technical wood section as well. After the upper rock slab, you are caught by a wood berm and then soon after hit a wood “sky-berm”. The Wood Chuck and Black Crowe are continuing the wood theme on Pioneer lower down with a spiral, down to wood berm and then into a wood step-up. The framing for this started this weekend and let’s hope it’s all decked and ready to roll for next weekend. While we’re on the subject of wood, A-Dog has flashed his creative side in the Alpine on Rock Garden. The wood/rock combos are super cool. There are wood ins to flat rock wall ride and back to wood lines, as well as a sweet wood/rock teeter-totter combo.

After September 3rd the Kicking Horse Bike Park is open Friday – Sunday until October 7th, 10:00 – 5:30

erosion?? are u kidding me like u really need that woodwork in the alpinesectin. People need to wake up and build some decent downhill tracks, know wonder Canada has such slow racers its because they are too busy trying to balance on stupid circus stunts. Woodwark is meant for areas like the shore that is so boggy that even armoring is not an option. As far as im concerned using wood all the way down easy lazy trail building

Whoa there fella, a lot of aggression coming out. Ever biked in Golden? We don't lack for "decent downhill tracks". Ever heard of Psychosis? - longest dowhill race in the world. But what is wrong with variety. I've heard it called the spice of life. Broaden yourself and enjoy all kinds of riding styles. Check this out: www.pinkbike.com/photo/1475182

Looks like they are putting in some effort at least... I was at kickin'Horse 2 years ago late in the year and it wasn't the greatest but it's nice to see them trying to build new runs 'n stuff cause it is a beautiful resort/hill.

It's great to see KHMR progressing their park. I hope they put traction bars (wire mesh or shingles) on the wood for when it gets wet otherwise it could be a real shit show. Nice building for sure.

what a dumb sport this has become....cluttering up the forest with ugly wood junk so some lazy bike riders and go down it.

Not sure why you bothered to read the article if you are so upset by the sport. I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder, but I think the woodwork is attractive when it is built well. And the primary purpose of woodwork at KHMR is to reduce erosion from bikers braking on the dirt. That it is fun as hell to ride is a wonderful bonus.
