 You don't need a mountain bike to ride on dirt either but it's a whole lot more fun with a mountain bike. Why don't you like people having fun?

How big a cliff does someone have to huck off of to be mtb? 10 feet? 20? or is it just being a dick to everyone who likes something you dont that makes things mtb?

also just wondering.....if my friends are riding in the woods with 2.5" tires....and im riding with them with 4" tires....theyre mtb and im not? does that make any sense?

 @nvranka: yeah youre right. one of my mountain bikes has 4" tires. its fun to ride. Just like my mountain bikes with 2.4" tires are fun to ride too. but anyway, ill try to remember which of my bikes im riding so i can know if im mountain biking or not. God, i hope i dont accidentally think im mountain biking on a 2.5 or something.....

anyway, genuinely curious how does being a mtb work in your world? so like 2.3 is the "standard width". if its a 29er, thats bigger, so is that ok or no? how about a 2.5 dh tire? too big or still okay? what about the newer 2.6? theyre just as wide as a plus tire but not as tall.....those okay? Assuming 2.8s are totally not ok with you......what about the old 2.7 DH tires?

kinda feels like you just want to be a dick to people, and stumbled upon this place to do it.

 @Torbo24: I'd say it's a combination of being obsessed with mtb whilst enjoying being a dick that brings me here, although nowadays I ask myself why I come here anymore (read: uninterested in the majority of content), but I digress.

I run 2.5 dh tires on all my bikes and am
not a fan of 29ers or plus bikes of any kind.

 @Torbo24: No one said you can’t ride a fat bike. Call yourself what you want, but fat bike give a totally different experience than mountain biking.

FYI the line between mtb and plus sized bikes is usually 3”, anything at or above that is “fat”.

 @nvranka: i guess 26x2.5 is the largest size tire a mtb can run. will keep that in mind.

also appreciate your honesty. Perhaps dont watch things that dont interest you? that way you dont have to make yourself angry at everyone else that isnt good enough for you?

 @garneau565: it can be. doesnt have to be. lots of folks only ride fatbikes on sand/snow. that is different for sure. Really though, if you ride the same trails on a fatbike that you would on any other bike, whats the difference? its just a better kind of hardtail really.......improves on the weaknesses of a hardtail, which are decreased comfort and traction. unless perhaps what youre stating is that a hardtail is also not a mtb.

anyway, i guess its silly to argue about semantics, and im sorry for getting sucked into it. I guess we should all be able to agree that the activity of mountain biking is dependent on the trails we ride, and really doesnt have anything to do with the equipment.

 @Torbo24: Hardtails are nimble, unforgiving, efficient at climbing and light, none of which can be attributed to fat bikes. Fat bikes are not an improved hardtail. Hardtails with a dropper post are improved hardtails.
