ok, so still no release date I gather. Any chance before X-mas?
  • 4 0
I hope... Its been a long time! Still waiting for my copy...
  • 7 9
The movie was more art than anything else, not much riding at all. Just art. Follow Me slays Life Cycles in stoke factor.
  • 4 0
so no date seriously? and no update? pretty disappointing... i preordered a copy thinking id be watching it before i went skiing not for xmas. truly a marketing fail.... oh just saw in the comments might be shipping out soon... WHY NOT PUT THAT UP TOP?!
  • 4 0
Nevermore pre order, Pinkbike.com should not sell things like this!!!!
  • 2 0
 100% agree with you guys!
  • 7 10
hmm .. i've been to the austrian premiere 2 weeks ago ... before they showed life cycles, they showed follow me. i thought life cycles is going to be the best mtb film i've ever seen ... but ..
dispite i've previously seen follow me for about 15 times, it was still 100 times more exciting to watch it again than watching life cycles for the first time... 3 of 4 friends fell asleep ... there are really good scenes (in terms of art, camera work, ...) but most of them are waaay too long and slow ... after seeing nearly identical shots from 4356 different angles in 4356 different speeds it gets really boring ... a commentator tells some stories about his first bike and his psychical relationship to it ... he speaks so damn slowly .. there was a point where i thought "daaamn man shuuuut uuup! i wannnaa sleeep! and dream of follow me !!"

if they'd cut all the unnessesary scenes and speed up all the unnessesary slowmotions, than the movie could be really cool .. but shorter than 10 minutes.

yeah it's a good art-movie ... good camera work, sick angles ... something like a documentary.. but poor in action and very very slow

it's totally different form what i expected ... was the time worth going to the cinema? i think so ... because they showed follow me in HD ..... watching life cycles once is quite okay, BUT -->

would i buy the dvd or br? NO .. because - as you all know - seeing something for the second time is allways more boring than watching it for the first time ... and in that case, i'd die of boringness.
  • 8 8
 PS:

the trailer is 100 times cooler than the complete movie Frown sooo much potencial .. if they just made the movie faster and with more action Frown
  • 8 0
It was a fantastic movie, there will be plenty other ones if you just want big tricks, why not just watch nwd again. It is definitely more art than stoke but thats the point! If you want stoke then get Follow Me!
  • 1 0
why would they put up a release date if they're trying to ship out DVDs as fast as they can as soon as they get them to customers all over the world? they said they're shipping for the next week, that's specific enough
  • 3 0
but i just wanna get stoked by one hell of a racing movie Big Grin .. made with the camera technique of life cycles .. at 1:1 speed .. shot at the gnarliest downhilltracks of the world - badass conditions - beween tapes ... pure adrenalin and sickness ..... loose riders ..... it will come, sometimes Big Grin

i was just expacting something totally different, because of the action shots in the trailer ... in my opinion seasons has the best mixture of all movies i've seen Smile
  • 7 0
 SPOILER ALERT: Dumbledore dies!!!!!!!!!
  • 1 3
^^^^^^^^ I just watched the movie.
  • 4 0
i honestly just watched that movie too.....like 30 minutes ago.....jesus. anyway, stoked to finally get life cycles in my hands despite all the criticism!
  • 2 0
Muzzle, using those techniques to film a race would not be possible. Unless you fancy holding a race in the dark over a period of months with green screens and hundred cameras? Sounds cool but I'm sure you'll agree, a logistical challenge to say the least.

^ I like how some guy created an account just to say it was boring. Twat.
  • 1 0
im still waiting for mine.... are they shipping blu ray too?
  • 1 0
i don't know but my dvd hasn't even arrived yet
  • 7 0
Wow people, the now generation is showing it's true colors loud and clear.

Take a step back and realize you'll get your personal copy soon.

It's embarrassing to see you gripe about the $30 you've been charged, patience and grace.

I really enjoy the comment about Life Cycles investing the money at 15%...where do you find an investment at that rate of return? Brillants comment that one was!
  • 4 0
But the bicycle industry is obviously just a giant scheme all leading up to Life Cycles stealing their money. The plan worked!
  • 6 0
I can't believe how many of you are bashing this film. From the DVD cover, to the trailer, to the movie description, it has nothing to do with trying to follow in the foot steps of Follow me or any other movie. You want it to be a early Kranked video with Disturbed playing in the back ground. yeah Follow Me is bad ass movie to get you pumped up for race day, But they went some where completely different and worked their asses off for this movie. yes have your own opinion but don't compare it to other videos like they are the standard to mtb films. Respect them for their hard work for going the distance of making a movie that encompasses the love of the ride and the love of the dirt.... Life Cycles description of its self

"Life Cycles is meant to be about the riders, and the deep connections they have with the bike. But it is also about the art of filmmaking and capturing unique, attention-grabbing action sequences."
  • 4 0
Well put. I'm fairly bewildered by peoples negative reviews of what was far and away the finest bike film to date in my mind. It's like there are some sort of 'rules' laid out for bike films just because it's been such a slow progression from film to film. People thought films like the Collective were 'new' and expounded on the change but they weren't that different really..... Now something comes along to shake things up and people feel freak out 'cause it's not what they were expecting. To me, that's the beauty of it.
  • 5 0
Wow, it's amazing how a delay in the production of the DVDs has turned into "a conspiracy", "a money grab" or " a giant scheme all leading up to Life Cycles stealing their money". Yes it's frustrating waiting a little longer but reading the bitching and moaning on here you'd think the Life Cycles team had run off with everyone's life savings. Stop and think.... maybe the most disappointed people are the Life Cycles team themselves. If you'd just spent 5 years putting together a project and making it come to fruition only to have the distribution delayed by a technical problem, which is out of your hands, you'd be be pretty frustrated. If they were really trying to rip you off they would have shipped the sub-standard DVDs but they had the integrity to make sure you get the best product and with such a visually stunning movie that's hugely important.
And finally if 'Syncro' could send me details of where I can invest my money at 15% for 3 months I'd be really grateful!
  • 1 0
That being said, I have been charged via PayPal. Regardless of whether or not Lifecycles can access my funds I do not appreciate my money being tied up in a product that I have not received. If I were to charge one of my clients for a geological log of a well they had drilled, before I showed up on site, and then told them I couldn't get my email to work for 2 months I am pretty sure I would loose my professional designation as well as my livelihood.
  • 6 1
all i can say to you bitchy haters.... go watch the trailer and pay attention to the opening line "this isnt a bike movie, its a movie about a bike".... then realize that when you watched it stoked for a bike movie, and got something else... you were just f*cking dumb enought o not pay attention to that FIRST line of the trailer. PLLUSSS.... their motto is "Bike Perspective Shifted".... no that was not a bad pun on the word shifted.... they were actually taking a different perspective.... so stop bitching and take a moment to think how dumb you are to have expected a Follow Me or a Kranked movie.

If the DVDs and Blu-Rays have issues, why hasn't this been released in 720p on iTunes already!
  • 3 7
flag cueTIP (Nov 17, 2010 at 13:31) (Below Threshold)
Agreed, this stinks like a money grab to me. I wouldn't be so outright angry if they didn't keep having "premiers" of this movie. The only reason they can keep having these showings is because the movie has not been released. I would like to see evidence that they actually are having the issues they say they are. The company I used to work for had 15,000 instructional DVDs made up last year and had no such issues.
  • 7 0
Every movie ever released as multiple Premieres. Thats how it goes. It's like a travelling show, so that everyone can go see it in person, on the big screen. As for the DVD's, they will come. Theres no money grabbing going on, Life Cycles can't even touch the money until the movies are shipped. Give the guys a break, producing a movie is a huge task. I do agree there should be more of a explanation as to what went wrong etc. Keeping people informed never hurt. Stoked to get my copy!
  • 5 0
LOL. A money grab? He cueTIP, I think your tin foil hat is on WAY too tight. Better get back into that cave before they come for your kidneys too!!
  • 2 0
Also, good job using a single instance to try to define an entire process for everyone else. Because obviously your one experience with DVD pressing is indicative of the entire industry and anyone involved.
  • 5 1
Well, if it is a problem completely outside of Lifecycles' control I feel bad for them. That being said they still should have had this sorted out way before this point. Hell, if I were them I would revoke VAS's contract for duplication and find another company, I'm pretty sure 20 high school kids with DVD and Blu-Ray burners could have had this to market by now. I do know why they haven't released an electronic version on iTunes though, and I can't say I blame them. When a video (specifically one in demand by young tech savvy viewers) is released on iTunes it shows up on torrent sites almost immediately. That very fact could eat into their revenues considerably due to the nature of people and the proliferation of devices that can play video content on TVs and other common media devices.
  • 1 0
^^ Spot on with the iTunes comment man.
  • 1 0
While I agree about the itunes thing cueTIP, I honestly would buy this on iTunes right now and still wait for my bluray copy. I think quite a few other people would as well. Plus I've gifted copies of follow me and NWD through itunes to many friends. I mean that's nothing but profit for them.
  • 1 0
The files on itunes have DRM and can't be ripped nearly as easily as the DVD so that's not a valid argument really. It's coming to itunes Dec 6.
  • 1 0
DVDs also have forms of content protection. Furthermore there are a number of readily available programs capable of stripping apple DRM on both movies and music. Trust me, it took my laptop about 45mins to take Black Hawk Down which I purchased on iTunes and turn it into a format I can watch on my PS3.
  • 4 0
That first part with the truck driving up the ramp thing. There's a couple fun banks down there to hit up with the street bikes. It's a little parking area for the buildings around. Just thought I'd share that little nugget of info with any Vancouver street riders out duurrr.
  • 3 0
Well I gotta say, my bike shop finally got some copies in today. I ran in and got one, and I've watched it twice today already. It's beautiful, innovative, and a masterpiece (all in my opinion, of course). Is it fast-paced and full of big tricks? No. When you watch it, really watch it. Pay attention to the little things in the movie. I was seriously moved by this film. For those that haven't gotten their copy yet, it's worth the wait. 100%.
  • 5 2
"WHEN WILL I GET MY DVD THAT I PAID FOR A MONTH AGO!?"

since we are now moving towards December...can any representatives from lifecycles please give us an indication if we will receive this move before Christmas 2010?

well over 3 months since I paid...
  • 7 0
Hampsteadbandit, Issues with production have pushed the date back, however I got word from VAS that the DVD's will be shipped to us this week so starting next week we will be shipping your DVD packages out. Thank you for your patience with this matter. The producers really have worked as hard as possible to make this video as visually pleasing as possible. Cheers!
  • 2 0
cheers for the update, this should be confirmed and posted on the main page, lots of people getting anxious by the looks of things.

I'm confident this will be the best bike movie of the decade, so got no problem waiting a bit longer. Although Kidonbike does have a point about digital distro, didnt one the nwds have streaming for 10 bucks a go, cant be much harder to organise then dvd printing (originally i mean, not at this stage)
  • 4 3
Im over Life Cycles, not stoked anymore for it.
  • 3 0
You paid 3 months ago? Huh...I didn't get charged for this yet. That's funny isn't it? And wait...pre-orders started 11-9-10.... Which means it's been just over 2 months since pre-orders started. How did you pre-order a month ahead of every living person? Are you a wizard?

PS: I love the lies and hyperbole.
  • 1 0
 @cyrix - That means I'm a wizard too Wink

  • 1 0
And technically as of today it has been over 12 weeks since ordering.
  • 1 0
How do I cancel my pre-order?
  • 3 0
 1. If you check, I think you'll see that you haven't actually paid for anything and your cc doesn't get charged until the movie ships. 2. Producing a handful of high quality copies to send out to a smattering of premiere venues is different from mass producing discs for mainstream distribution. The original master was crap, they had to redo it. Too bad, but that's life. These boys are artists and learning a little bit about the other side of producing a movie, a side that is pretty much out of there hands.
  • 4 0
Agreed. And to the bitching about iTunes not at least being out...if you know anything about retail this would negatively impact retail sales of the DVDs and Blu Rays hurting everyone involved in the process. Just like every other film, action sports or mainstream hollywood - their is a timely process in how you release media or else it all goes to sh!t. iTunes will probably be out in a few weeks if it works at all like every other film...DVD first, then digital. Seriously chill people! I'm starting to get more annoyed by all of the uneducated bitching than the actual movie being late.
  • 2 1
Those of us that paid with Paypal were indeed already charged.

It's not the matter of the lateness that everyone is so upset about. It's that we've given almost no information as to the reason of the lateness at all. We've had a few vague statements about dvd quality and blu-ray menus, but even something like "our Blu-Ray producer is currently re-working the menus and we expect them to be done within x time, after which another x is needed to manufacture, then x again for us to organize and ship them out" rather than hearing, a month ago, that it would take "a little longer". The statement on the website hasn't changed since they first told us it wasn't coming right away. We just want to be informed. If we're in the know, we're ok with waiting a while.
  • 1 0
If you don't like the bitching just don't read it !
  • 3 0
"You paid 3 months ago? Huh...I didn't get charged for this yet. That's funny isn't it? And wait...pre-orders started 11-9-10.... Which means it's been just over 2 months since pre-orders started. How did you pre-order a month ahead of every living person? Are you a wizard?

your information is incorrect - my Visa CC statement shows PB charging me on 1st September 2010 - I had actually placed the pre order at the end of August - so yes I must be a wizard
  • 3 0
Actually there not raking in anything, the premiere moneys all go to which ever local bike club or trail organization, atleast they have been here, so you might wanna check on that "jerryhazard"
  • 3 0
That's mostly true. They do charge a fee to the clubs to premier the movie and then all of the movie proceeds go to the club/org. showing the film. That's no different than how Freeride Entertainment or the Collective/Anthill does things.

FYI, folks b!tching about it not showing in their locations: You, your club or your riding group should contact Life Cycles and host a premier. Nothing's stopping you. We did that and it was a great event.
  • 1 0
The main problem is attendance. If you wont get enough money the movie wont pay for itself and cinema renal fees + the 500$ for the life cycles is not a local club wants too loose. It's understandable that ppl in smaller biking communities complain.
  • 2 0
Our LBS got the DVD's in on Thursday, but I held out until the premiere in Phoenix last night to watch the film. As someone who has worked in video/post for a decade, I will say, it's an amazing piece of cinematography, beautifully shot, edited and color corrected. Some of the effects I could have done without, but thats just me, if they aren't perfect, I tend to nitpick those things. As for the content and way the movie is done, it reminded me of something I would see in a IMAX theatre as a kid, or maybe on National Geographic but what it isn't is a movie that got me stoked to go ride my bike.

I will say "nice work" to the film makers, I understand what it takes to accomplish a vision like that from start to finish, but honestly I would have liked to have seen more depth to the content for the amount of time that it took to produce. 4 years is a long time to film 30 minutes of beauty shots and 20 minutes of riding that seemingly ends nowhere.
  • 2 0
well I am not going to say anything else negative about release dates or lack of information for pre-orders Wink

I am now stoked to watch this film, and see what it is all about...especially seeing the Devinci factory in Quebec in all its high-def. glory

I am hoping I have my HD Blu-Ray movie soon, and it will be a well-attended "home" premiere
  • 9 3
WHEN WILL I GET MY DVD THAT I PAID FOR A MONTH AGO!?
  • 2 0
Check your cc records pal, you haven't paid for anything yet.
  • 2 0
 your information is incorrect
  • 2 0
Just watched that ,nice but i would not pay £20 for a dvd.follow me is much better. Vanderham section disappointed me,it should have been shown in a different way.he is the best freerider in my opinion and his section was the worst.
  • 2 0
I just watched this movie last night. As a cinematic experience for a mountain biker (or anybody really), it was amazing. As a video that gets me pumped to ride, FAIL. It's amazing to watch with probably the most amazing cinematography I've ever seen, but it's boring in comparison to other videos, like NWD 10.
  • 1 0
Hmmm saw this at the premiere last night in Salt Lake with one of the film makers, Ryan Gibb present (those of you past puberty may remember him from Thor Wixom's 'Down' series). For mountain bike porn it's beautiful from a cinematic perspective. However, I don't know what's with the monotone Clay Porteresque diatribe about how mountain biking is going to save the world? We already know that.
Mute that out and you've got a killer film.
  • 2 0
Regarding "DVD's landed this afternoon and have begun to ship out...":

Does this shipment notification include Blu-Ray, or have the BR discs not arrived in the producer's hands yet?
  • 2 0
Blue Rays "should" be available 11-30-10
  • 2 0
LIke 39 cents said, no Blu Ray yet.
  • 1 0
I just saw that the DVD is available at a german online bike store and I read that people picked up DVDs at the shops.

I pre-ordered the blu-ray and there's still zero information on when I will receive it.

Did anyone who pre-ordered the DVD received it yet ?
  • 1 0
I think who ordered it from the Pinkbike store didn't receive the DVD yet. I don't know what's going on here, but it's strange that the products disappeared from the Pinkbike shop, and we don't know anything about the shipping, but it's available in many shops including the german store too.
  • 1 1
This is freakin' bullsh.t ! They serve the shops first so customers that have no clue about the film can buy the DVD right now, where as customers who pre-ordered months ago can sit and wait for something they already paid for ! This is just unprofessional on a whole new level ! That's taking away the sense of pre-ordering and making everyone who pre-ordered look like a fool. This can only be topped if the delivery guy spits in my face while he hands me my pre-ordered blu-ray. EPIC FAIL !!!!!!
  • 1 0
There was an update on the official Life Cycles Facebook page yesterday, and they said that the DVD's are ready. They started to ship them! I also got a feedback yesterday about my DVD order, so everybody will receive their DVD or Bluray soon. The Bluray's are not ready yet, they will start to ship them in first week of December when they are ready.
  • 1 0
Guys, have to say I've pre-ordered my copy on here, still waiting. My LBS got them, I ordered from them online, next day delivered to my door. Watched it. Well worth every dollar. To all you saying it's not good, go learn what a real film is made of, the effort put into it and time spent on making such a film. If this film doesn't make you stoked to ride, feel good about riding and proud of how far bike technology has come to let us ride the way and what we do, stop riding, you don't deserve it. My expectations were met and higher, this film is stunning. Glad I have two copies, one can stay un-opened. Now I wish I had a blu-ray player for a blu-ray copy. Those who are saying there isn't the massive red bull rampage tricks ect, remember alot of this film was filmed well up to 2 years ago, go look at what tricks were being done two years ago.... it's all on par if not much bigger.... in two/three years biking trick wise and otherwise has come a long way. Loved this film, it is a film that people who don't know the difference between BMX and MTB can watch and be amazed, be given a great insight into our world and passion. Enjoy it people it is worth your respect. Peace out Ryan and Derek!
  • 2 1
is it just me or is anyone else starting to get slightly fed up with all these slow motion cinematography movies? start making more movies like 'Hypnosis and 3focus'! with riders like Sam hill, absolutely f*ckin pinning it to death metal!
  • 6 1
Everyone needs to see this movie! Planet Earth meets bikes.
  • 3 0
The fact that we were all charged ahead of a standard quality control check is the real issue here.
  • 1 0
I stopped preordering dvd's a long time ago when my preordered dvd showed up a week after it was already in the bike shops. Just wait until it's out in the stores and save yourselves the heartache.
  • 3 0
Saw this in London last week and it's AMAZING! will not be disappointed.. Some of the cinematic are speechless.
  • 2 0
I´ve been calm since the film got delayed. I WILL stay calm until my BD arrives.

I mean, I cant go to my bikestore without getting spoilered or made fun of but I am calm.
  • 1 0
The Filming was excellent, but the actual riding quality was well below par, mccauls and semenuks bit was poo and mike hopkins massive hip was good to the part were he more or less broke his ankle and that was it,
  • 1 0
Bit of a PR disaster, but hopefully the film will live up the hype. Slightly worried about some comments re lack of biking in the video, but I'm sure it'll be epic none-the-less. Fingers crossed!
  • 1 0
I was definitely charged and I pre ordered a month and a half ago to those who say you don't get charged until the dvds ship. This launch has been an unfortunate mess, too bad really
  • 2 2
Just finished watching this over hyped steaming pile of dog turd 46mins long & less than 20mins of riding & half of that was in slow motion absolute garbage, to the maker's of Life Cycles how about next time you actually make a mountain bike movie if I wanted to watch a f*cking nature doco I'll watch the Nat Geo channel which is where this movie will probably end up, you are all going to be f*cking spewing you wasted your money on this shit I know I am, go ahead & neg prop me all you want i don't care this movie sux!
  • 2 0
You get my positive props because you just hyped my enthusiasm to the max. You`re describing exactly the film i expected.

Give me my BD. Yaay!
  • 1 0
Just got and watched it. Quality film, totally different to your average bike movie. I wish we had somewhere in the woods to build a freeride run like that!!! Bike films are never long enough!
  • 3 0
No Texas Love????? We do ride down here.
  • 1 0
OK so why is it good enough for all these Premiers, but not good enough to ship? Just curious...That's all! Kind of weird business to me.
  • 3 1
The premieres are of the film, not the bonus sections, not the interaction etc. The produced DVD is supposed to be of the highest quality and the initial renderings simply were not up to par.
  • 1 0
OK cool just want to see it soon.
  • 1 0
I Want my Money BACK!!! they should only take the money when it ships. i payed with paypal and they charged a long time ago!!!
  • 2 0
So do they just talk about the manufacturing side of things? either way it looks super epic
  • 3 2
No DVDs sent, yet they continue on with the "Premieres" everywhere at $10 bucks a pop, raking in thousands, and not putting out anything...
  • 3 1
Life Cycles actually only makes a small amount per premiere, and most of that money is put into posters and promotional tools, and sending a movie formatted for the big screen. Its the people hosting the event that probably make the big bucks. Every movie ever released as tones of premieres all over the place, so this isn't really out of the ordinary. The only thing out of the ordinary is that the DVD's have had problems...
  • 1 0
Captivating!! Is there going to be an Australian premiere? I think there should be if the teaser is anything to go on. Msg me and I will organise it for you :-)
  • 2 0

There was a Vancouver at UBC and a Burnaby at BCIT. The BCIT one was apparently pretty weak, poor projection equipment, really didn't do the film justice. Why can't they do it at the same place they had Follow Me. That was the perfect venue!

i totally agree, i went to the UBC premiere and it to wasn't that great...and yes I emailed life cycles to have a premier at vogue (which was where Follow Me was premiered) but i guess they aren't doing that.

I agree...NOT enough riding...should be used as an educational tool for Forestry people who tear down trails, encouraging them not too haha...but as an MTB film...I would not buy it.

My LBS has it too... no Blurays though. What's the latest news guys?
  • 1 0
So are you guys going to send me a DVD while I wait for my Blu-Ray?
  • 1 0
I ordered the blu-ray along with a blu-ray copy of follow me, and some other dvds. I am more disappointed that I have waited two extra months to see any of them, and the season is essentially done now (already started snowboarding and watching snowboarding movies). Also since I payed with paypal they have had the money for all of them for months, When it was delayed they should have at least sent out an email and offered me the option of paying an extra 5-6 dollars to ship the other dvd's right away.

I saw it a while ago, I was somewhat disappointed, it needed more biking, and less pictures of leaves and stuff.
